Love this saying Jim!!!
Glad to know you have at least one brave web footed baby!!

SOOOOO I got a text from the lady who 2+ months ago emailed me about raising up some Salmon Favorelles that she got via Farm and Fleet.
Last week her chicks were due in and about 80% of the entire order died for every one. She reordered and her's came in, but 1 died.
I was going to F&F in Verona today to get chicken food, so called her and said if she called them, I could pick them up.
They don't really look like Favorelles that are pictured.. and they are awfully small. I brought in my nicest Silkie, and put them together in a cage I have.
In the coop for a few minutes to see how they would do.. well she didn't peck at them.. and just kinda ignored them.
So I brought her and the chicks home. I have them set up in the basement with a heater and a heat lamp...
I just put them in a box for the night, next to the heater so the box stays warm..And will check on them in about an hour.
I am hoping she will adopt them, she raised up 4 last year, but she brooded them.
If not, I will put them in a large box until they get bigger and then in a brooder pen.
The young lady does have a standard splash crested polish rooster that her dad has, he is mean as ALL HECK, but pretty...
If anyone is interested I can let her know.
Anyway...this young lady only wants one of the chicks, she had to order 5, but only wants the 1, so... I will be bringing the chicks
to the Bash to sell. They are pretty though, and are all PULLETS.

See you all laters!!

otonoh they are so fun, we put our chicks out yesterday and then let them out in the run today. It is fun to watch them explore and fly in amazement to themselves. I put them in the coop tonight just so I could go in and not worry. DH said he was suprised I didn't put the baby monitor out in the coop

Was I time I would gather at least 8 kinds of mushrooms and all kinds of other wild goodies. Last year I was so desperate I BOUGHT some! Also, most of the places I used to get them now are full of houses!

And what's worse... about 1/2 of them are sitting empty! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Oh well, back to life.....

Today was fallow mommy around while she did her chores day (for the chickens) First they helped me clean more unwanted stuff out of the garden. Then they fallowed me to the compost pile to make sure I got it all in the right place and didn't throw out anything "good". They sat with me on the deck when I took my breaks and guarded me from the big black ants emerging from under the deck. (they don't go after the little ones... grrrr) Then made sure no bugs would get me in the asparagus patch! Only a couple came to help me feed, water and collect eggs though.

Well, glad it was a good day for most of you! Tomorrow the grandkids are coming over I get to try to entertain them for 12 hours! Those poor chickens are going to get a work out for sure! LOL

Good Morning All! Dooner you are so mean! Man I would love to find some like that! Or even some not like that.

I went out and put the boat in the garage so I could finish that up. Guess I'll just have to cook and bake till the weather drys up. The garden should go gonzo

along with the squito's and ticks.

Since it's not raining here yet- I will be heading back out to our garden and continue planting, DH is going into work today to put a kitchen back together.

Hey Jim, DH wanted to know if there are any Bold, Old Mushroom eaters?

Morning everyone,

no rain here as of 7:00am Let the chickens out about an hour ago, They were a bit hesitant, but they all went out. The coop was 6o degrees when I checked it, It is supposed to get down to the 30's later so I may have to add an extra heat lamp until they are 100% feathered out. I need to mow the yard again and get more feed. The feed can wait till tomorrow. I want to mow when I can.
Have a good day

Good mornin to all, I have a question about the food and water in the coop, do you keep it in at all times or should it be in the run? maybe both? At this time I have some outside and in, not sure if I need it inside the coop at least until the young ones are a bit bigger. What would I do without all of you

Thanks and have a great Saturday!
Susie

Good morning! Slept in a bit today--felt good! Now I am having LO coffee from yesterday as DH didnt make any before they went off to help at the dairy breakfast. AND they forgot the 4H forms! Guess what? I will sent dd19 right back there when she gets home--no excuses!
Man, LO coffee is yucky! I cant just waste it though. THe parrots are talking to the eggs. it is so cute; you can hear them inside the box and it's really echoey sounding.
It is very warm in the house, I need to open some windows...finding the screens for them would be good too. Had one of those fussy bumblebees in the bathroom the other day and the cat was having a blast swatting it around!
ep.gif
THat was one mad bee!
Hey "Cracklin' Rose" is on the radio..."Play it now, play it now, play it now my baby..." I love the store bought woman part! OOOH now Dream Weaver! I always though that it was a one hit wonder (Gary Wright) but I heard that he had another song on one of the programs...sont know what it was though.

Well--better get outside and let out the birds. I want them to have a little time before the rain sends them in. Later! Terri O

Ha ha, I might not post very much on here, but I read it! It really makes my day to read about what everybody else is doing; its funny and educational. Goats, mushrooms, and drunk hummingbirds (yeah, all the ones with pictures
wink.png
). This is a great way to kickstart my day!

Need some input: those of you using DE, where all do you put it and how much. I was thinking in their sandbox and a sprinkle in the nest boxes.

Also, don't laugh, how many eggs do you get from ducks? They dont lay like hens, right? Do you get them for the egg eating or the meat or is that just a very minor part?
