Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey guys, yep! We passed it! It hasn't really sunk in for me, but it's DONE! Now on to hen keeping classes and a permit party in July!

In forty-five days, people can officially apply for a hen keeping permit in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Now I'm looking for a partner or two (well, primarily a financial backer) to join with me on a bit of a business venture. Any takers?

Thanks everyone! I love my animals and those are only some. I have 2 other horses and a pony. Oh and don't forget about the goats, they make sure I never do. LOL TO- you should post some of you horses, curious minds want to know.

Thanks on the fencing. We have wire around the perimeter, but the paddock and fence on the hill are wood. Also a crisscross fence running in front. I like our fencing too, but it's taken many years to find what works for all the animals. Whether the horses can knock it down, the goats can get through, the chickens can't get through. What a pain in the &^% it is to figure it out.
Susie J-I'm currently combining four that I had in for color breeding and also 7 chicks. I have a wire dog kennel in the corner of the coop and that's where the chicks stay at night and where they hide to escape meanies. Right now though I have my blue roo (because he will not stop picking fights with the other two) in there and the hens are on the nesting boxes. The hens so far are not having issues, but of course the boys are. If you don't want to make soup, I would seperate them until the others are bigger and then they will have a better advantage to stick up for themselves. That also will not Mrs meanie down the pecking order too. Thats what I would do.
Alright have a good night everyone.

Susie, JMHO, but 6 weeks in kinda small to be putting together with adults. I would try to keep them separate for a while longer until the chicks are a little bigger. But that is just me.

TO, thank you for the advice. I had read on a dove website that it is stressful on the females to sit on the eggs all the time. But I would think it would be worse on their bodies to be constantly pumping out eggs. She has been sitting on one for a few days now. I usually let her go for a week or so sometimes. The first 2 she laid, we let her sit on them for over 2 weeks, and she just would not get off of those things. I think she'd lay on them for months if we let her.

As for Jim, he's probably either searching for a replacement gosling, or he's out sleeping with the geese tonight.

Kee, great job!

Sounds like you're going to be busy for awhile. Good luck!

chicken gods?

My only duckling has more or less adopted the Uko rooster.. the rooster is not a dotng parent, but he lets the duck tag along all day..

Yes, the uko are jungle fowl.. Mine were raised with the chickens and guineas they were hatched with.. the rooster will walk right across your foot.. he is not happy to be picked up, nor are the hens.. but none of them are mean to any of the other birds or to us humans..

I emptied the chickTV of all the turkeys.. I think there are 20 of them.. then I went to the hatcher and removed 4 new ones, so much for empty chickTV's

Annie still doesn't know about the gosling.. Is it lying if I just do not say anything? LOL

sold all of my Java's today..21 of them.. gave the lady a free americauna.. She asked me if I would sell the Java's for $5/ea after they were butchering size ? I said no, I will have that much in feed in them.. that is when she decided to take them and raise them herself.. I think she thought I was lying about the feed.. what do you think? Me? I think she is in for a rude awakening.. LOL

she did say that if I have any more like them, she would buy them.. I will have to give Dave a call.. time to make another egg run.. hmmmm how DO you make an egg run ?? My sisters used to make their nylons run without taking a step..

"chicken gods?" Don't worry, Jim. I don't think she was referring to you.
lau.gif
I think you will be more like ground turkey when Annie finds out.

I used to get runs in my nylons without taking a step. It's called cats.
Sweet dreams, all.

Started patching the cracks in the floor where the other coop is going.... ran out of patching cement! I did make sure I got the areas done where the boards will be going so I can frame out the coop then finish patching. Let it dry overnight and it should be OK for litter Thur. night. I hope I get it all done as scheduled REALY REALY REALY got to get those chicks out there! And they are turning into pigs! The 10 of them eat almost a gallon of food a day now.

On the up side... I love that the big ones free range! Feed bill for them has gone waay down and the coop is almost poop free!

Added to my list of things to do in the next few days.... My oldest DS informed me he has no one to take him in for his treatments. He has MS and is living with a friend for now. Every few months he has to go for IV treatments that take an hour each over 3 days. So it will take about a 2 1/2 hour chunk out of my day. I love him dearly and will do anything I can do for him but I have such a hard time dealing with his wheelchair (or even the walker) in and out of the car. And I always have to park so far away from the door because he lost his handicap cards.

I have issues walking too so it's real hard on me. But I will keep repeating "I love my son" and get through it! The timing sucks too! Oh well, "I love my son!"

Dornes! I'd say come sit a spell but it's more like an hour. MLH sounds like your chicks are on the mends. It's always the case when something happens it's always YOUR fault. Happens when you care! CD yup I survived! Was only there for a couple of hours. Had to leave it started getting pretty tight with all the saws. Things were looking pretty good! So I came home and rounded up all the good stuff I could stand to part with for the rumage sale my BFF is having this weekend and finished getting the boat set up the way I wanted it.

Then I mowed the lawn. Couldn't believe how bad it was already! Better get movin before the rain starts! Enjoy your day!

Congrats Kee,

Guess I'll keep them apart a while. I think the young ones will be bigger in the long run so it will be there turn to rule

Gotta get my rear in gear and get ready for work. Good day to all.

Sit a spell... you were right, more like an hour to catch up on the posts since my last post in this thread!

Becky - love the pictures, your setup is wonderful! And pretty little dapple mare you have there too!

My babies should be here today or tomorrow, got my brooding box all built yesterday and it is ready to go for them too! Hubby is not into this whole chicken endeavor but he was saying the other night how the layers that I ordered are all brown eggers. He then informed me that he does not care for brown eggs... so I put another order in for 8 more chicks - they should be here next week...
clap.gif
Maybe he shouldn't have said anything... just wait until the brooder is full of chicks and he sees the second shipment LOL I am tempted to have them throw in a roo.... think he will notice

BC-It's Cheepie!!! Autumn will love to see the pic of her. Glad she's still kickin', lol!

All's been pretty good around here. I got my shaded raised flower bed all in, some lilacs planted, DH got the flag pole up, and last night we took DD fishing. She did so great. She caught about 30 Bluegill by herself and kept 10. She's so proud that the fish she caught will be our dinner tonight. The turkeys seem to be growing more and more every day. It's still so amusing to me when they fan out. Our Californian mama bunny is due to have her babies today. Hopefully there's some little cuties waiting for me when I get home from work

Have a great day everyone!
