Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi everyone from Wisconsin! I'm located near Poy Sippi, WI and I'm new to Chickens. If someone would have warned me how addictive they were I would never have believed them:) I just LOVE my Chickens. Is anyone going to the Badger Poultry Show on June 4th? I'm going to watch. Also, does anyone know if there are breeders that have Favorelles (Pullets) for sale?

Hi all!

I'm so very ready for warmer weather! So is my garden and the Chickzilla's and friends! They keep telling me that they did not sign on to be chick-sicles! They also tell me that they need brooder lamps again. I point out that they are fully feathered and that the old hens seem just fine with the weather. They, being typical teenager chickens, tell me that the older hens are lame and stupid and no nothing about anything! Just wait I tell them...just wait.... one day you will be"older hens"!!

I have good news! Both Cornie and Daphne are completely fine! Yeah!!! Cornie however, I need to watch and put on a "diet". I'm restricting his food intake so he doesn't blimp out. WE'll see how that goes. I told dh that his company needs to come up with a diet food for chickens!

I was talking to dh today about the little peeps and I mentioned something about how Buzzy has corrupted the Chicken Youth of America! So now we have a new phrase at our place CYA's!

We found out yesterday that the seminar we did down in Ill was such a hit, that the people who own the store want to have us back again next year! I said "That's so awsome! I'd love to go again, but I'm not brooding chicks again!"

Welcome nonsuch!! Glad you joined our cheesey thread!! I'm going to the Badger show of the 4th! I'm kicking around with entering my Ameraucana hen Valerie I got from another Cheesehead! I'll be easy to find, just come by the Nutrena booth-I'll be there with my dh who is the Nutrena rep. I went last year and it was fun! This is the last show they are putting it on. Yes, chickens are very addictive. When ever my dh and I are driving about, I just look at all those lonely chickenless farm houses and and shake my head. " All that wonderful chicken acreage wasted!!" I say and my poor dh just sighs and shakes his head......

DK!-best of luck with the move!! Cant wait to hear from you on how your move went!! Safe travels!!!

Dooner-nice coop! I like wainscoating! I think it'd be a nice addtion to TO's part of the coop along with her flower boxes!!

I agree cover the insulation! Chickens eat pretty much everything that even looks edible. I think they are worse then pigs!

Well, I've gotta scoot....

Yet another crappy day. And as usual, I have about as much energy as a gnat. I don 't know which is worse: having no energy, the constant bad taste in my mouth or the constant nausea. I sooooo cannot wait to be off these antibiotics!

Ok, enough whining. Sorry.
BL4, sorry to hear about your jeep. Hope it doesn't cost too much to get it fixed.
DrH, I feel your frustration, but just think of it as they were so appreciative to you helping them out, that they just wanted to thank you somehow. They were being generous, and there aren't too many of those kind of people left in this world. And just what sunshine were you referring to? It is cloudy & COLD down here. Be careful you don't drop any trees on your head.

Dornes, I sure hope your chicks come today. The post office has been on my list for a while now. The laziness and ineptitude are unbelieveable these days.
TO, my furnace kicked on last night, and I had it turned down. Brrrrr........ And I do believe DrH is our mascot, but there is always room for one more!

nonsuch! Glad you found us, although the feeling might not be mutual after a few days of reading.

MLH, I am happy to hear your chicks are doing better. You better keep an eye on that Buzz; sounds like quite the bad influence. Glad to hear the seminar was such a hit.
I finally updated my BYC homepage last night. Got pics of the newbies on there. If you're interested, take a look.
Well, I think I've got to go take a nap. What a waste of a day. At least the weather stinks.
Hope everyone has a great one!

Hi Everyone,

Celtic Druid, If you are on antibiotics be sure to eat something with probiotics in it - yogurt or a supplement! I hope you're feeling better.

Does anyone know a breeder of Salmon or any color Favorelles? Do you think there is a chance there might be some at the Badger Poultry Show?

I'll be sure to stop by the Nutrena Booth and say "Hello"!

Thank you, nonsuch. Yeah, it says on the box to take with food. Unfortunately, it doesn't help any.
I do remember reading that someone had salmon Favorelles, but I can't remember if it was on this thread. I'm sure someone has some.

Thanks again!

Longest afternoon ever waiting for that 1:45 time mark to be able to call the post office again! Gosh I hope my babies will be there!!! That has left the afternoon to hubby and I are placing the coop today and trying to put the roof on... trying being the key word. Tornado damage really did a number on that roof... we have it up there, but it isn't lined up in the middle and the two halves seem to hate eachother because they are not having anything to do with lining up at all... all I want is the roof on and then I will make the necessary repairs....

I also wonder about venting... with it getting so cold here in the winter, what do you do for venting? Just high up vents or do you all have windows you can open and close too? I am planning to put some moisture barrier and then insulation, another moisture barrier and then some plywood and painting the inside with some really tough really super shiny outdoor paint so that it will be easy to clean.

I am going to have to figure out how to get pictures off my blackberry and uploaded to here so you all can see what I am dealing with as far as the super cheap 150.00 tornado wrecked coop that I bought and am re-constructing... mostly by myself other than the roof that hubby has to help with.

Whew - enough ramblings, I suppose I should be done with my "union-break" now and get back out there and see where hubby dissapered to!

Welcome to all the newbies... I am a newbie too!

Celtic-have you talk to your dr about what you are feeling while taking the antibotics? My DD(11) was on antibotics that wiped out the good stomach bacteria a couple years back and she felt horrible for the longest time- tired, no energy, could fall alseep in nothing flat if she sat down for a minute, it took a good year or longer to get her feeling well and to this day she still has flare ups from time to time. some days she didn't feel like eating anything or nothing looked good etc to her. If you can eat yogurt, that is what helped her.

Dornes- sounds like you are making progress on the coop- don't forget to post pictures when you can, that way TO and Jim can fight over who gets which side.

Hope your babies arrive safe and sound!

DrH- that is probably just their way of saying they appreciate your help when they needed!

Okay where/when is the Badger Poultry Show?

Thanks for all the finger crossing... if I wouldn't have known to call the hub they wouldn't have gotten here until tomorrow!
