Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning Good People! Man you guys! bl4 know the stress like I said don't think I'm cut out for bateing. Cind since your good at identifing things I've got some conifer looking things that sting as bad if not worse than nettles when touched. I've got one right now that's about 8' tall. Been meaning to cut it down, it's on the list. Found out the hard way not to touch them when I transplanted the rhubarb and grabbed a small one. It was like I sliced open my hand and poured gasoline on it. Good luck on the broodie situation.

Glad to hear you and FM are neighbors she's a very good person and we miss her on here! Haven't even been outside yet and the chickens already have me laughing. Have one of the windows open and this morning some of the hens decided they wanted to go out in the run. Now their trying to fly up to get back inside. Can't quite get high enough

But think this morning will be splittin wood before the heat and rain moves in. Liking the progress in the shed. Enjoy your day!

Markin' my place, gotta run to work.

I was just reading up on how to split out irises and I'd live to spread them around. Would be happy to share, assuming I figure it out. Sounds like it shouldn't be too hard.

On the garden subject, looking to fill in in front of the ditch in front with lilacs and I know you can collect some from from established ones. Any tips, anyone got any that they'd like to share?

OK, now I'm late, gotta really run!

Hurley,

I just noticed that you have a Sicilian Buttercup. How do you like her? Is she very standoffish? Where did you get her? Just curious. I think they are absolutely gorgeous.

Here is Amy the Rooster!

I wish I could get a comparison shot so you could get a good idea of how big he really is.....

Baby call is out..... but exhausted. His back end is sort of still in the shell but the poor thing is so exhausted he is just sleeping. I hope he makes it so the other baby has a friend.

Morning all, trying to catch up on all this reading!

Forgot who mentioned it - but the apple cider vinegar in the watereres is such a great idea! But is the vinegar okay for the chickens? And it must taste okay... or they wouldn't drink it? Blech - just the smell of vinegar makes me wanna find the nearest bowl!

Carol - the babies are settling in really well, there has been no fights at all and they act like they have been with my chicks since the beginning. My kids think those hatchery marks on their heads are the coolest thing and they don't want it to go away when they feather out. Silly kids!

Well, its another scorcher out there today - DrH
lol.png
- stay out of the heat, eat some watermelon and drink lots of water! We put the window AC in today and I am really hoping (

) that the co op can come out here this week and get the central air installed..... this summer is gonna be killer!

Very handsome lavender roo you have there. I just hatched out some lavender Orps. I think I have 3 lavenders and 5 black split to lavenders. Also hatched out some georgous blue silkies too !! Still have lavender bantam cochins in the bator as well as a few guineas and lavender silkies. Plan on breeding some lavender silkie/cochin crosses.

Trying to think what plants I can bring to the bash and all I have are SNOW ALL OVER THE MOUNTAIN !!!!!

I like them but you can't get rid of them without alot of digging !! TG they don't spread beyond where you plant them. My hostas are all new so not ready to divide yet.

in referance of the apple cider vinager (ACV) If I heard right, u can't use it in the metal waterers. and it's got to be the right ACV, the natural stuff, please correct me if I'm wrong.

ok after 2 weekends helping my DH we finally got the 2nd or 3rd? coop done. this coop is bigger than our 1st coop, built inside of a building. the "main" part is mainly chicken wire, with some partial walls (mainly a summer coop) inside that "main" part is a "brooder" box thats huge itself. easily fits 49 birds 8 week olds! YAY! I love my DH! we know have NO more birds in our house! YAY! it's a nice feeling when we get something done and can say that I helped with that. My cousin I think was a bit envious, I was working with all the power tools and she said to me "your so handy!" I would rather be out working next to DH making something then doing dishes and clothes ANY day! we work so nice together!

kids are having fun with no/very little video games so far this summer. HOWEVER on day one of summer vacation we lost a chicken, it was a hit and run, sorry I gotta laugh,

lol.png
unfortunitally it was hit by my DS (11, that 11 years old not the 11th son

) with the go cart. he felt SO bad, I was concerned that it was one of the mamas but when we found out that it wasn't there was relief. to the coop was the first place HE ran to check and see if both mamas where in there with their babies! he's such a tender heart
love.gif
I had a day reasurring him that it was ok. THEN day 2 of summer vacation, my nephew (12) was driving the gocart with my DS (13) as passenger and they ROLLED it, PRAISE GOD theres a roll cage! tis why I bought a go cart and NOT a 4 wheeler! my son was the only one hurt, by the seat belt none the less

my mother

TOLD me to get rid of the go cart! like Hell, I'd rather them learn how to drive BEFORE they get to the road! at least now they have a respect for "cars". mothers! I'm gonna stop there with my mother
well I gotta run!

I'd like to know that too. I think they send up some kind of runners. I bought some sticks, and I mean sticks from Aldis. On clearance for $.50. They are starting to bud. Also got a few burning bushes and hydrangias (sp) for $.50. They aren't doing quite as well.

I had gotten some lilacs years ago from the Arbor Day Foundation and planted them in pots. They stayed in the pots for a few years. Never froze out but this is when I lived in Racine. Well anyway when I moved to another home in Racine I took them with me and planted them. Boy oh boy did they take off once they were out of those pots !!! They were actually root bound and the roots were out the holes in the bottom of the container so they were starting to root in the ground.

So hopefully these little buggers will do just as good. I bought some bigger plants a few years ago when we moved up here and they really haven't taken off. Anyone got any secrets for giving them a kick in the rear ???

Cind & BL4 , thank you so much for the info. It is very much appreciated! It really does kind of resemble Morning Glories. I must have the hedge one, I think. At least they are easy to pull out, but they are just everywhere!
he.gif

BL4, that is one good looking, huge roo! He looks like he's posing for you. What kind is he? I hope your call makes it too. I give you all an awful lot of credit for incubating eggs. I don't think I could handle that kind of stress either. You people are amazing.
Dornes, yes, ACV is safe for chickens, other animals & even humans too. I read that it has been used for centuries to help boost the immune system in people & animals, but don't know if that's truthful or not.
Yes, Raim, you are correct about the ACV. You don't want to put it in metal waterers due to the acidity. The acidity in the vinegar can corrode metal so it can contaminate the water. And the kind you want is the raw, unfiltered ACV with the "mother".
And congrats on the new coop(s). They sound wonderful. You must post pics if you can. So sorry about your son(s), the chicken & the go-kart. They can be awfully easy to roll. Hope he is ok.
Try to stay cool, everyone, and DrH, you better not overdo it today!
