Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

yummy brats and grilled shrimp tonight. Yum. Hot day so didnt get as much yard work done as I would like. Kids had fun with the slip and slide though.

Say I have a question... what do you use to keep the slime out of the big white plastic waterers? I have a 5 gallon one with a deep red dish on it, but it gets slimy really easy. I just keep changing, but thought life could be simpler and you all might know how.

Well I have had a blechy afternoon. We had planned a nice trail ride, its too DARNED hot... I won't put DH, myself OR the horses through that. :X
I had to go to meet with neighbor to watch his dogs, he is having a few cancerous lumps removed from his nose, arm and back.
We love his dogs and adore him. His is insisting on paying and I am trying to tell him NO.. maybe I can get forget to pick up the money.. LOL

Well we are being nice again...we are going to take in a male parakeet and a hamster.. each with their own cage.
I am going to QT him, and then introduce a spare female parakeet we have... and find them a home as a pair.

Anyone want a hamster?? His.. HIS name Cinderella and his cage is pink... I think we will change his name to Cinders.

And then had a pair of "red-necks" drive in and ask if any of our vehicles were for sale.. UM NO.. well maybe my old Audi.. it has 288k on it..
They didn't like the price I asked for it, and drove off.
Its locally driven, and we keep up on our maintanence... DH took down their plate just in case..

Damien has made his presence known with his big boy voice. LOL
My barn owner said.. "did you get a new rooster?!" I said yep.. I guess she hasn't seen Lulu and Flopsie yet.. I think those were the names
OdrH said.

Have a great evening all.

Welcome 10! Great to have you here. You won't find a nicer bunch of people, or more chatty.

Get yourself comfy for your daily reads!

Thought I'd get the rest of the garden in, but my friend's baby shower was a lot more fun. And now I'm taking care of a mourning dove that got hurt, not sure what's wrong with her, but she looks like she had a head injury. I got her to drink some water, but I don't think she can see....her eyes are puffed shut. Maybe I'll just give her water, some food, warmth, and keep her safe from predators and see what she does.

Hope the weekend is winding down nicely for everyone!

So very sorry for your loss Friz, that must have been awful to come home to.

Hey 10 welcome to the Cheeseheads sure are a lot of great people here.
Hurley your pics are beautiful. You must be enough south of us we are just starting to get some color in the garden.
Shanti hope your dove comes around for you.
WCC how nice for your client that you are helping him get back up to ride again. I have only been on a few trail rides myself but can say they are beautiful animals and I hope your client gets back his love of riding.

Question time again-Are all Roos like this or just the jerks? Our Jungle Roo is with 13 8 wk old pullets and some of them are equal to his size. When I put treats in the run he thinks they are just for him. So I put in two plates and he still likes to think they all are for him. He runs them off till he eats all he wants then they can have whats left. Is that just the way it is or is he just a jerk? Thanks Susie

It could depend on the breed and the rooster's personality. We have an Andalusian rooster who clucks to his girls any time treats are past out and lets them eat first, to the point that he doesn't always get many of the treats. We have an Ameraucana rooster that when he first got his girls that wasn't the case and the girls didn't "like" him but it seemed that he took lessons from the Andalusian rooster and got much better at wooing his ladies. Your boy could also know that the pullets are 8 weeks old so he figures he doesn't need to share. Time will tell as to how he treats them.

apple vinegar,,, about 1/2 to 1 cup per 5 gal water.. chickens love it so if you put more in, they won't mind..

can you put in the full amount of do you work up to that? Do you add it everytime when you can/clean waterers?
