Amen to that! Where's the "LOVE" BUTTON?

Thanks, shantibirdy. The mother duck couldn't figure out how the top of the doghouse that covered her nest was lifted up and she couldn't see what was doing it. (I was hiding behind the lid and trying to get a photo at the same time.) I was freaking out as I wasn't expecting to see any ducklings and was just thrilled! I heard an egg literally explode on Thurs. and smelled it shortly thereafter & barely had time to hose it down quickly outside the nest so the nest didn't get TOO polluted but... I went ahead & removed 4 bad eggs then and didn't know if any left would hatch or not... I adopted these ducks early Spring from a family that needed to rehome them and to my knowledge this is her first hatch. My other Pekin female has gone broody, too. I take that to mean they're happy and feel safe. Now, I just need to protect the mom & babies for a couple of days before I put them in the duck run by themselves away from the Rouens drakes who are always looking for a little Pekin loving -- ready or not....

We had a good time at the bash! Nice meeting everyone, thanks for being so welcoming and answering all my questions. Peggy is feeling better today, day three of the antibiotics, she was a real sport for coming along feeking so bad.

Let's hear stories from the Bash, folks! Who brought what home? What did you buy or sell? Get or give as a White Elephant gift? Who's in trouble for bringing what home? Funniest moment(s)? Is a date for the next one set, if so, when?

Inquiring minds want to know!!

Glad to see Elaine on!! Hey Elaine if you need to find a home for the frizzle ... LOL

And super cute ducklings, what are you going to do with them, sell them? just wondering
Nice to see Becky is back and in one piece.. You will have to tell us what you got.

I hope TO is happy with the job I did.
Her kids can be industrious if they want to be... got in to their place around 6:30 last night or a bit earlier, All the dishes were done, they were watching a show on t.v.
Her young DD and boyfriend were making home made chicken soup... I KID YOU NOT!!
I think they did a bon fire, I duno I fell asleep around 10 after reading for a bit. (I like sleep aids!!)

So people have to tell us what they got!!

Have a good afternoon

I can't believe others haven't posted yet, but I came home with some very nice home made soap from BL4 who also sold me an adorable black bibbed Call. Baby Duck and I have been out for a couple hours of gardening, some dabbling and walking with the big ducks, some napping, and she's so sociable I think we're going to sit down with a book now. What I find fascinating is that the hen who shows the most interest in her is the one with the same pattern/coloring, my Blue Swedish. Birds of a feather flock together, I guess!

Wish I could have stayed longer yesterday, but someone had to do the chores! Celtic, did you make it? If you did, sorry I missed you.

Let's hear some more from other folks, or are you still recovering?

Afternoon all!

The wedding was very nice. Right on the beach on Lake Michigan down in Zion IL. We had fun but has to leave early to get back to the dogs since we left so early in the afternoon.
My friends dress was gorgeous and the ceremony was very short and to the point. Then onto cocktails and dinner. Very fun!

Elaine-those are some real cute babies you have there!

dk-hope all is ok at your place and your dh is doing better. If you need any help with your dogs or anything at all, let me know. I'm only 15 or so minutes away from Janesville.

I hope everyone had fun at the Bash and that y'all got home safely. Can't wait to hear some stories and see pics!! (Hint Hint Hint....HINT!!)

Ok, lunch break is over....onto more chores!

later taters......

Is the handmade soap lye based or glycerin? I used to make lye based soap but when I moved to WI I couldn't get the humidity/temp figured out and kept losing 8 lb. batches so I gave up. I miss it but the lye based soap can be expensive to make. Glycerine soap is pretty inexpensive to make but you can't leave the bar of soap in water or it disolves and I find it tends to get slimy if it sits in a little water, so I don't care for it that much.

Re: my frizzle - it's the cutest little chick I have ever seen or hatched and that lil' one will be with me until the day it dies unless it's a rooster. If it's a rooster, I'll just cry! So far no indications that it's a he although it is quite strong and feisty for it's size, so I call it Fiesty. (None of my other chicks are named so that's a pretty good indication of how much I like this little bugger.)

I haven't figured out what I'm going to do with the ducklings yet. (My husband is anxious to find out as well, haven't told him about the other broody Pekin, don't know if he'll notice the tarp I have over her in the yard or not....) If I can find a place close by that will butcher and process them, then they'll become a holiday meal for my siblings & their families. (Anyone have any ideas where, close to Madison, I can get birds processed?) Otherwise, I'll try to barter them for something.... Although I personally like cash, I don't like to sell things and try to barter or trade when I can to avoid the cash economy. I'm not sure if there's a market for baby Pekin/Rouen ducks and would be clueless what to charge for them. (Anyone have any ideas on this?)

Speaking of barters, my latest barter is with a friend for a truck load of ash wood for 8 types of garlic to start in the Fall.
wee.gif
: I'm totally jazzed about that! We eat a ton of garlic (I'm 1/2 Sicilian - so I cook with garlic and onions almost every day and my son will eat raw garlic on EVERYTHING - he loves it!) and I grow a lot, but over the years of having my son plant it for me in the Fall, I've lost track of what's what, so I am looking forward to a fresh start. Has anyone priced garlic at Farmers Markets or online lately?!! Good grief, it's like $18 a POUND!!!! Last year at the Farmer's markets they were asking for & getting $1 a BULB! And, as a further aside, did you know the majority of the garlic in the US is shipped here from China?!!!) The ash for the barter is from a tree we had taken down a few years back and I held onto some of the wood it thinking we'd use it for the backyard firepit or camping but we haven't used it so the garlic will be of more use! Besides, I want to reclaim that section of the yard....

Okay, I'm really feeling like I'm being a chatty Kathy here.... I'd much prefer to be in the background, but feel inclined to help keep the group on the front page so we can get Bash stories faster....

Shanti, Celtic made it as did French Toast. Both of them arrived I think around 4 ish?

Happy to hear baby is doing well! He is a cute little buggar! I just checked and the two little ones are three weeks old; the Juvies are 6 weeks old.

For everyone who missed out: Dr. H is just the same in person as he is online, multiple personality disorder!

FordMommy made a surprise appearance, everybody brought TONS of wonderful yummy food! The chatter was non-stop too! We had another episode of escaping fowl (a chicken and a choc 'scovie), and the White Elephant exchange was a riot! The Rooster Cutting Board was a hot ticket item!

I managed to sell off all the calls I brought with me and get rid of all the rhubarb plants too! We were so dang tired last night I just did not feel like posting anything, and this morning I was in a coma for the longest time......

I did manage to get a little weeding accomplished this morning.... but it is too hot now so I'll pick up and get at it again this evening before the skeeters come out. Oh! I did manage to get some pics of Taffy while sitting.

Where's the Duck???
