Sweetfolly.... so sorry to hear about Will's friend! Hard to take when it's so quick and senseless!
Donner... you could make little collars w/their names
Carol.... LMAO! If only your weekend could have been caught on camera!
Are you going to do it again if TO has to go somewhere?
The pics. are sooo cute! Mamaduck dose a good job of hiding!
Well, coming home was allot easier than getting there!
As you probably read, we borrowed my son's camper that was sitting for 2 years. I spent weeks killing the nesting ants, fixing the holes they made, scrubbing down the whole inside, washing all the bedding, curtains, pots and pans etc., restocking everything and not only getting it ready for us but for their trip over the 4th! It had things in it most people would never think to bring, but having allot of camper experience I tried to think of everything! OK, Fri. morning DH woke me up at 10:00 (I was up 'till 5) and as I was waking up the phone rang. It was the gal my oldest son was living with (strictly platonic!). As some of you may know he has MS. Anyway she got evicted and was going on about what was going to happen with my son.
Long story short we knew it was going to happen and have been making plans for him, part of which was SHE was evicted.... not my son! Anyway, that put us behind.
Then it was one "little thing" after another and our plans to leave at 1:00 turned into 2:30. Went to fold down the trailer ... it wasn't going down evenly. Crank it up it was ok, down another part wasn't going!
This went on for another 1/2 hour! I finally called my son and he came over and tried. We decided a cable must have broke or screwed up somehow!
Now keep in mind that the van got "fixed" but still no clue as to why we had no headlights! That meant we had to make the 3 hour trip (not counting all the construction) before dark! OK, if we left by 4:00 we SHOULD make it! Stared grabbing things out of the tailor we thought we would need including the extra stuff we packed in there to transport. Left the driveway 4:10.... stopped at
Wal-Mart and got tent and headed north! We knew with construction it would be slow.... but one area it took 20 min. to go a little over a mile!
Then there was a 17 mile detour!
!!! Then we got a bit lost
All in all I think we made it with about 20 min. to spare! Set up the tent in twilight!
Was it worth it?
Oh HE!L YA!!!!!
We didn't have supper yet (didn't want to take time to stop) but I pre made an wrapped in foil some stuffed peppers so when we got there I threw them on the camp fire. They turned out great!
DH thought he was not going to be interested in anything or anyone and planed to do nothing but sleep the whole weekend. And yes, he did have a tendency to "doze off" but all things considered he socialized much more than he planed. I think he did very good and did enjoy himself! He was having blood sugar issues (I think because Fri. got so far behind with his eating and meds.
) Duke (our dog) enjoyed himself too! At home he has been very whiny. There he was quieter than he had been in weeks. As for me.... It was great!
It was so cool to see what everyone looked like! And strangely, most came close to what I expected!
Not sure if that's good or bad!
And BTW.... sorry if I seemed to "babble" I don't socialize (with real, live people) very much and I tend to go on a bit.
For the white elephant I got some wine/champagne glasses. DH satisfied his "flashlight obsession" with a grill light. It won't work with our little charcoal grill.... but he wanted it rather than steal back the rooster cutting board I stole from TO!
( I really liked that cutting board!
and if it ever needs a home again it can go on my kitchen wall quite nicely!) I also got 10 baby birdies from Jim! 4 Ameraucanas, 4 guineas, and 2 he wasn't sure about
many of mine are "mutts" so it could be interesting to see what they are! I love a mixed flock!
I also got plants and soap!
DrH.... I sure hope your freezer stays full of venison! It was great!
What I could eat of the other stuff was all good too! It was nice variety!
Keedokes was surprised when we dropped off the duck
s... tricky TO I didn't know she was only expecting the
1... from Jim!
Her daughter fell in love with them right away!
The
only down side was it seems we came home with a few hundred uninvited guest.
I would be very happy to try to send them back to camp! I could priority mail them if you like! Don't want to upset the "balance of nature" too long! Put I would go back!
I'm sure I forgot something...
Ok, must sleep now!
