Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

If there is a common theme about the Bash, it's that we were all plum tuckered afterward! The kids were zonked on the way home, and I wish I could have napped, but I was the driver. What a great time, lots of laughter and stories and fooooooood!

Came home with some nice plants, rose soap from BL4 (thanks for making it and sharing), my white elephant was a snowflake pic frame and Christmas decor thingy. I seem to remember the knives being a hot number for the men in attendance.
lol.png
Believe it or not, I did not come home with any birds. Hurley had some nice young chickens, but she ducked out while I wasn't looking and I missed out
sad.png
Julie got a cochin pullet and hookbill duckling from Sweetfolly, 2 Scovies from ...uh, someone, and I think 2 Calls from BL4.

Needless to say, I'm already looking forward to next year. And Raim did great on the shirts!! Love 'em!

Oh, Carol, you poor gal. Sounds like you got more than what you bargained for when you agreed to take care of TO's critters. Maybe we needed to change the name of this thread to "The Further Adventures of WCC" for the weekend.
gig.gif
Sorry, but the image of you in your jammies hanging from a porch railing trying to stretch to reach a scared cat was just too much.
lau.gif
And congrats on the pip!
Cute chicks & duckies, BBP & Elaine! Love baby pics. And your little rock star reminds me of Gene Simmons from Kiss, Elaine.
gig.gif

BL4, those are the funniest duck pics ever. What a silly girl! And thank you again so much for the soap.
Shanti, what time did you leave the bash? Did I miss you? Whoops, I guess so. I just read your post (9536) Darn it! I really wanted to see you! What a bummer. We didn't get there until almost 4:30.
he.gif

On Fri. night, we had to go to IL & didn't get home until after 3am, so we slept in kinda late, didn't get on the road until after 12:30, got stuck in traffic for over 45 minutes and wound up taking the "scenic" route through downtown Green Bay. Needless to say, we were running a little behind schedule.

I wish I would have at least made it for the white elephant gift exchange. It sure sounded like it was a lot of fun. The rest of the afternoon/evening was great, though! Everyone was soooo nice, and full of hilarious stories. And there was enough food to feed a small army! There were so many great looking things that I just didn't have any more room for.
sad.png

I didn't come home with any more birds either, although I was really eyeing up Jim's barred rock. But then he started eyeing up my wheels.........
We got home around midnight last night (this morning), and spent the majority of the day today expanding the outdoor run for the chickens. Grass!!! Weeds!!! Woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!
yippiechickie.gif
They took care of most of that in no time. I'll have to go out & take some pics tomorrow if it isn't raining. So happy that that took a vacation for the weekend. We sure did luck out on the weather situation, thankfully.
Well, I completely agree with everyone else: it was an absolutely wonderful time, but oh so exhausting! I had no problems falling to sleep last night & I'm sure it will be the same tonight too. Thank you all so much for everything (gifts, food, conversation, loan of the chair) and especially for making us feel so welcome. DH & I don't usually get out too terribly much, especially for something like this. What did someone say? "Yeah, I'm going up to the woods to meet a bunch of chicken people I don't know but met online".
wink.png

As far as the Bash goes, it was great
ya.gif
It was wonderful to meet all of those who made it. Yes DrHaHa you too
gig.gif
hugs.gif
THANKS to all who helped to put it together
hugs.gif

I didn't come home with anything to feed but sure had fun learning about all the different birds that were at the bash. Jim I sure enjoyed talking about your project of the whites.
Raimnel the T shirts are great
hugs.gif
thanks for all your time and talent.
I did bring home some homemade soap and Rhubarb from BL4
hugs.gif
Thanks so much. Love the pics of your hidden mommy.
Dooner, If you make the labels long enough you could wrap them around the leg of the chickens
lau.gif
Good to hear your wife is feeling better. It was nice to visit with both of you. The Sunnyside Hatchery meaties we were talking about are Jumbo Broilers
droolin.gif
but it was hard to do after you raise them. Guess we are softies.
It was nice to see all the kids that made it. They were so cute with the chickens they love.
Elaine, Cute pics, can't get enough of those.
Got a lot done today but pooped now and getting ready for bed early.
Night all, Susie

Hi guys. I wanted to jump right online today after work and join in the post-bash chatter...but it's been a BAD day.

Will's best friend passed away in his sleep this morning. He'd had a sore throat for about a week, took a pain pill to help him sleep, and it appears that his throat swelled closed while he was asleep, and he was unable to wake up because he was so out-cold from the medication he took. But there's going to be an autopsy, so we'll get better answers soon. He was only 23 years old and very healthy and normal, so it was a huge shock. This friend and Will were extremely close - Will was the first friend the family called, he arrived before the body had been taken from the house. I was at work, I'm so sorry that he had to go through the first few hours of the ordeal alone!
hit.gif

Anyways, you probably won't see much of me online for the next week or so! Will and I are helping out with a lot of the arrangements.

Little "Boo" who we ended up coming home with is all set up in his own little brooder right next to the duckies, and Will won't admit it but he's really fond of him - I went outside today and caught him just standing there with this little monster chick perched on his hand, just petting him. It's a good distraction I think. And we had 2 baby quail hatch unexpectedly today - hoping for a few more! Like I really need MORE to deal with this week!
roll.png

beckyschicks - Love the pictures!
smile.png
And don't worry - you can still feel free to call this week for our roo-swap! The wake is late Thursday and the funeral is Friday, but Will took this whole week off work, and the more distractions and running around we do, the better!

Oh, Sweetfolly, I am so sorry to hear about Will's friend. Please pass our condolences along to him.
That sounds like a really scary situation with his friend's death. It almost sounds like an allergic reaction with the throat closing up.
Was that his friend with the pregnant girlfriend????

Good evening! Soooo much to say and soooo tired! What a great weekend! I will post more about that WITH pics tomorrow but for now I just wanted to catch up on reading (10 pages!!!) You guys that stayed home really did us proud! SF--so sorry you had such terrible news to wake up to! So scary!

Sweetfolly.... so sorry to hear about Will's friend! Hard to take when it's so quick and senseless!

Donner... you could make little collars w/their names
lau.gif

Carol.... LMAO! If only your weekend could have been caught on camera!
gig.gif
Are you going to do it again if TO has to go somewhere?
th.gif

The pics. are sooo cute! Mamaduck dose a good job of hiding!

Well, coming home was allot easier than getting there!
lau.gif
As you probably read, we borrowed my son's camper that was sitting for 2 years. I spent weeks killing the nesting ants, fixing the holes they made, scrubbing down the whole inside, washing all the bedding, curtains, pots and pans etc., restocking everything and not only getting it ready for us but for their trip over the 4th! It had things in it most people would never think to bring, but having allot of camper experience I tried to think of everything! OK, Fri. morning DH woke me up at 10:00 (I was up 'till 5) and as I was waking up the phone rang. It was the gal my oldest son was living with (strictly platonic!). As some of you may know he has MS. Anyway she got evicted and was going on about what was going to happen with my son.
hmm.png
Long story short we knew it was going to happen and have been making plans for him, part of which was SHE was evicted.... not my son! Anyway, that put us behind.
roll.png
Then it was one "little thing" after another and our plans to leave at 1:00 turned into 2:30. Went to fold down the trailer ... it wasn't going down evenly. Crank it up it was ok, down another part wasn't going!
barnie.gif
This went on for another 1/2 hour! I finally called my son and he came over and tried. We decided a cable must have broke or screwed up somehow!
rant.gif
he.gif
Now keep in mind that the van got "fixed" but still no clue as to why we had no headlights! That meant we had to make the 3 hour trip (not counting all the construction) before dark! OK, if we left by 4:00 we SHOULD make it! Stared grabbing things out of the tailor we thought we would need including the extra stuff we packed in there to transport. Left the driveway 4:10.... stopped at Wal-Mart and got tent and headed north! We knew with construction it would be slow.... but one area it took 20 min. to go a little over a mile!
barnie.gif
he.gif
barnie.gif
Then there was a 17 mile detour!
barnie.gif
he.gif
th.gif
!!! Then we got a bit lost
hmm.png
All in all I think we made it with about 20 min. to spare! Set up the tent in twilight!
Was it worth it?
hmm.png
Oh HE!L YA!!!!!
wee.gif
We didn't have supper yet (didn't want to take time to stop) but I pre made an wrapped in foil some stuffed peppers so when we got there I threw them on the camp fire. They turned out great!
droolin.gif

DH thought he was not going to be interested in anything or anyone and planed to do nothing but sleep the whole weekend. And yes, he did have a tendency to "doze off" but all things considered he socialized much more than he planed. I think he did very good and did enjoy himself! He was having blood sugar issues (I think because Fri. got so far behind with his eating and meds.
hmm.png
) Duke (our dog) enjoyed himself too! At home he has been very whiny. There he was quieter than he had been in weeks. As for me.... It was great!
wee.gif
It was so cool to see what everyone looked like! And strangely, most came close to what I expected!
cool.png
gig.gif
Not sure if that's good or bad!
roll.png
hide.gif
And BTW.... sorry if I seemed to "babble" I don't socialize (with real, live people) very much and I tend to go on a bit.
hide.gif

For the white elephant I got some wine/champagne glasses. DH satisfied his "flashlight obsession" with a grill light. It won't work with our little charcoal grill.... but he wanted it rather than steal back the rooster cutting board I stole from TO!
lau.gif
( I really liked that cutting board!
tongue.png
and if it ever needs a home again it can go on my kitchen wall quite nicely!) I also got 10 baby birdies from Jim! 4 Ameraucanas, 4 guineas, and 2 he wasn't sure about
hu.gif
many of mine are "mutts" so it could be interesting to see what they are! I love a mixed flock!
love.gif

I also got plants and soap!
thumbsup.gif

DrH.... I sure hope your freezer stays full of venison! It was great!
droolin.gif
droolin.gif
droolin.gif
What I could eat of the other stuff was all good too! It was nice variety!

Keedokes was surprised when we dropped off the ducks... tricky TO I didn't know she was only expecting the 1... from Jim!
duc.gif
hmm.png
roll.png
lau.gif
Her daughter fell in love with them right away!

The only down side was it seems we came home with a few hundred uninvited guest.
hmm.png
I would be very happy to try to send them back to camp! I could priority mail them if you like! Don't want to upset the "balance of nature" too long! Put I would go back!
wee.gif

I'm sure I forgot something...
hmm.png

Ok, must sleep now!
