Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I posted the chickenstock like 3 weeks ago...... did you start another thread so Nifty does not get confused????

Could you and Fordmommy add who is going to be there and what they are bringing to eat since I have no idea?

Thanks!

BTW I have a nesco and a big gatorade drink cooler I could bring, plus a screen tent.....

Getting impatient for those pesky eggs to show!

Hello everyone! Sounds like everyone is busy with babies or babies to be.. Now you have all made me want babies! I told myself that I would wait till the end of March so that they wouldn't have to be in the house as long but reading about everyone elses chicks I want some! So I guess I have a question- Which do you perfer and why? Incubator or broody hen?
I want to buy an incubator but also want my broodies to hatch their own out too. I guess I just want everyone's opintion and then I'll decide. Well everyone thanks ahead of time for the input! Enjoy the weather it's great!

Well-I would have loved for the babies to be hatched by a mama. But to incubate them and see all that's going on....amazing. But with a mama, in the cold, worries of her not sitting on them are plenty. My coop is not heated much. Just enough to keep the chill out. The coldest is was in there was about 15*. When warm, mama hands down for me. But my kids will love the experiecne too. So bator for the kids. I choose both. Can I do that?

Just to let you all know about my girl who had the gash. Scab has fallen off. But there's still a indentation there. But all nice skin. Good as new.

And today I got 6 eggs! 2 blue ones now. I think it's the other White Ameraucana.

And I gave in and gave the second broody 2 eggs. But she's in the garage in the dog crate. The other girls kept sitting on her and having their eggs. So I took Lucy out and gave her 2 Wheaten Ameraucana eggs. She's happy with that.

I ordered my new feeders and waterers today too. And my bator's on it's way.

I vote for the broody to do all the work! I had one that sat on a clutch last January, hatched all FIFTEEN eggs and raised them with no casualties! I was floored when they appeared on the coldest day of the year!
Or, I have another suggestion...just let someone else offer to do the incubation for you...

thanks HensandRoos!
It is nice to have the chicks away from the Mom though...they get so much tamer that way...lots more work though! Terri O

I hope your eggs come SOON!!!

I posted a new thread so that I could add all the people and their food. I have posted what I know. If you could ask Nifty to delete yours that might alleviate any confusion. I will add your items to your name. Thanks babylady4! Terri O

Hey! Those are my eggs!

Babylady4 is the one going to be hatching them for me. SHE'S doing all the work! She even got me some EE eggs.

The eggs are coming tomorrow. I told the post office that I would pick them up from there. They said that they would be here at 6:30am. And after I pick them up, I will take them over to her.

i do both, if I have a broody, but if you don't have a broody. I hatch weekly, in fact I'm setting 90 eggs tonight mostly bantams this time. The best part of broody hens is you don't need the broodee when they hatch, give them feed and water, keep an eye on her they mostly take care of themselves. the big difference is you can't look at a hen and tell her to become broody and take care of eggs and chicks

Good Evening.....

I was suprised when the UPS truck drove up and delivered my much awaited snowshoes.... Suzie figured out the bindings for me, and I was off for a hour to check em out. It was alot of fun, and a perfect day for the hike!

I love the broodies for hatching. My flock free ranges and mom teaches them all the right things. I agree that the peeps aren't as friendly in the beginning, cause mom is keeping a close eye on the brood. One just needs to handle the newbies once mom is back to laying.

If I had a bator.....oh my.... Suzie would want to know what I'm going to do with all the peeps?

Fired up the grill yesterday... big sirloin steak...it was deeelicious..

Sorry BCC I knew that but I'm really tired and dropped the s but hey I made up for it by adding an extra i later on. So many things I'd like to address but again really tired! Back in tomorrow but am thinking of only working 6-12 so I can get some chores done. And beer drank. And BYC. Ya Bigz it'll put a nice chunk in the emergency fund for the future. That's why I'm doing it. I was thinking that seeing as how my ring balogna deal fell through we could bring that beef bean bake that's so good. It has of course beans, beef, bacon, molasis and a bunch of stuff in it. It's a meal in it's self but a great side dish too. Count on us for that unless someone else has already volunteered to make it. Cute baby's! I want some!!!!! And parents too! TerriO I think it was BCC that gave me the thread on the avatar. I'll look back when I get a chance.

TerriO I was right it was BCC, the she not the he it's on page 75 of the posts. If I can do it [with help] so can you. YOU CAN DO IT! It feels to be right at least once a day.
