Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All,

I've been "lurking" but faithfully reading all the posts. Maybe next year I'll be able to make the "bigzio Bash". We also show dogs, and between Dog Shows, taking care of animals and working full time there just is no time left. I was wondering if someone could post:

1) Any up-coming "Swaps" or Shows

Also

2) A step by step explaination of the procedure to showing Chickens? Does the APA have anything like this on-line?

Now for the bad news...Yesterday I lost my favorite Pullet, a Salmon Favorelle named "Tsa Tsa", she was just 10 weeks of age. A few days ago I noticed just a few poops that looked Bloody. Everyone seemed just fine, so I didn't react to what I thought might be a bowel cleanse. Someone sent me a link to all the different appearances of Chicken Poop and they do shed some of their intestinal lining during the year. Anyway, Thusday night I noticed one of my Buff Orps looked "mopey". I brought her into the house and syringed pedialyte into her beak. The only thing I had was "Tylan" powder, so mixed up a batch in water and gave her that. Friday morning she looked worse. When I opened the Coop door, all but the Buff Orp came running out, so back in the house she went. I left for work, then decided to take off about 1 1/2 hours to get some "Corid" from our local large Animal Vet - Berlin Vet Clinic. While I was at the Vet my family called to say that my favorite girl was dead in the yard. I have her in a shoebox and will bury her in a few minutes:( with the others (per previous posts from BYC Forum) I've de-wormed with Ivermectin, and have them all on Corid, plus raspberry Koolaide, in their drinking water. So far so good. I think the problem was the Coop/Run that has a shade cover over it, so it's dark plus this is the third set of youngsters in this area since March. It certainly sons like Coccidisosis, and maybe worms? I can't believe how fast she went...and didn't appear sick?

Who offered to send me a "Bigzio Bash" T-shirt? Let me know an address and the cost of shipping and I'll send you a Check - that is if there are any left?

More later

I promise to post some photos.

MLH, what are Freedom Rangers?

Goth, I know you said you'd be in the Green Bay area today, but where about are you located otherwise? N? S? I wouldn't mind some pullet chicks. The langshans sound interesting.

BL4, hope you have a great vacation!

And DrH, please tell L that I hope she is feeling better real soon, and you too, FT. How did I know you'd be late for the swap?

H&R, hope your turkey feels better soon.

Kee & Nonsuch, I am sooooo sorry to hear of your losses. That is never an easy thing to have to deal with.

Nonsuch, it was Raimnel who has/had the T's.

You have to have it hosted somewhere online (you can host pictures here on BYC, or on Picasa, or Flickr...) Use the Img tags when you're composing a post. Right click on the hosted picture you want to add and click on 'copy image url' then paste it between the tags so it looks like this:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-...i0c/DSCN0884%2520%2528640x480%2529.jpg[/image tag]

But the first tag is 'img' within the brackets, and the end tag is '/img' within the brackets:

Well the chicks are still doing good. I have a TON left and ran an ad in Sunday's paper but only had 1 hit. I just want to make sure I break even on the costs. I ordered from Ideal and they have SOOO many breeds it's impossible for me to figure all the chicks out. I even got a few Campines and other breeds that are listed as sold out for the season.... It makes it really hard. I checked the chipmunk chicks and none have any sign of being the other Easter Egger. No beards, no muffs, no colored legs, and no pea combs. I had a few casualties already so I am waiting till Monday and then calling to let them know how many died and then I can get my missing Easter Egger girl as well. The 3 I did receive are all different, one is all white, one is solid mahogany, and one is a really dark chipmunk. Then we also have the two polish chicks my daughter ordered that are doing great, she got one Buff Laced, and one White Crested Blue. I am hoping for both girls but they came straight run only so it's a toss up.

I have some chicks that are sooo neat looking I have NO idea what they could be. A couple are solid brown with white head spots. I was also told head spots meant a barred/cuckoo bird but what breeds would be a brown barred/cuckoo pattern? Is their even such a thing? I also have a few of yellow chicks with grey patches on their backs and feathered legs. There are so many different colored chicks it's crazy! Anyone have any guesses?

Goth, what color are their legs?
I had one "assorted pullet" that was yellowish with head spots, and she just wound up being a whiter version of P. red.

So where abouts are you located? I would be interested in a few chicks, if you don't mind.

Celtic Chick- I live in Manitowoc but I saw your location saws SE Wisconsin so Idk how far away you might be. If you know how many and possible breeds I could see what I have and hold them for you. We will be going to the Bristol Ren Fair next weekend and I could bring chicks with me if it isn't too hot out. My cars air conditioning decided to stop working today and a 2 hour drive in a hot car might not be fun for the chicks. Let me know.

Evening All... Sorry Goth, but I can't help you out with the mystery chicks.

The freedom rangers are a alternative meat bird to cornish crosses. Take longer to grow out. I prefer to just raise dual purpose birds and butcher the extra cockerals. One less group to deal with. i like to keep it simple as can be.

Wonder how Ehlco was?

Thank you yet again, Bigz! You are a wealth of knowledge, and I never tire of learning, except when it comes to a drake with "prolapse", FT.

BTW, was that you who mentioned that song, "How far is heaven"? My DH's band does that song. One of my favs.
