Is she gonna eat them? She was gonna buy those two goats for $5 each and told them that there was no doubt about it that she was gonna eat them. They were Nubian crosses, 2 whethers.

Anyone want them? The woman (also a neighbor) said she'd give them to me !!! She bottle fed them. They do have their horns.

Gotta go to Lakewood to the Dentist in the AM, about 45 miles away. Found an ad on CL for Lean Ground Beef (90%) selling for $2.25 lb. So after the dentist I will just keep driving another 25 miles and pick up about 50 lbs.
Anyone know what I should ask these people about the meat etc ??? Never really bought from a farmer before except from our neighbors once and they charged me $3 lb. The guy said they were fed hay and corn silage and were processed at a butcher.

So manybe I should continue looking on CL as long as I"m going that far and see what else I can find and bring home from the area !!!

Now that is an awesome turtle!

Good wet morning to all of you. So glad that I got my grass clippings in the garden this week to help hold this moisture we got this morning in. My flower garden really needed this rain too! I have held off watering most of the week because I thought it was going to rain... so my plants are probably pretty happy right about now.

Found a 6x12' 6' high chain link dog kennel on MWT.net this morning for 80.00 - going to pick it up tonight. The chickens will be happy that their run is getting bigger.

I talked hubby into converting the "garden shed" (which we have not used for more than a junk storage the past 3 years) into a chicken coop! So more chickens, ducks and hopefully I get some peafowl in there too (and yep, the noise is just fine with me... lol). Doh - chicken/poultry math has started already. I am up to 20 chickens now... one is for sure a rooster so that one will have to go at some point. Had 13 as of Wednesday and come Thursday I went down to the neighbors, whose daughter is going off to college and needs to thin her flock, and come home with 7 more baby chicks. The 'bater is all set up in the coop and the new babies are doing wonderfully! I will have to ask her again what breeds they were. They are bantams, two of them are bantam white leghorns. Cute little buggers when they get bigger. The other 5 look like little chipmunks!

Well, need to get some laundry done today - I suppose that is what the rain is telling me to do....

Happy Birthday Baby T! DS is 1 today. Soon as he wakes up from his nap, it will be time to open presents and destroy the red velvet cake I picked up for him. He's good at mashing food, should be fun!

Chickies are doing well, Iowa Blue boys think they are big now and are starting to have crowing matches. Little ones are getting quite destructive in their chick TV, knocking over their feeder, etc. They are going to earn a trip out to the grow out pen in the near future.

Think my sicilian buttercup is turning roo on me. :p I see spur buds and the spots are going in favor of solid red. Darn it. Was hoping for a nice buttercup layer. May try again next season. Both white spanish whitefaceds and both silver laced wyandottes are cockerels. Both Columbian wyandottes, however are pullets.

Looks like I've got some fodder for the soon-to-be bachelor pen to grow up for freezer camp this fall. Not sure yet on the white La Fleche. Think I have a pair of black La Fleche. The darn Ameraucanas, I have a devil of a time with them until they mature. I suppose in the future I'll be better at telling, but for now...*shrug*.

One of my blue Ameraucanas has gone broody so think I'll save up some Am eggs to let her try to hatch some easter eggers and possibly a couple of those cute little lavender Ameraucana eggs.

Need to get my big 3 hole broodie/brooder box moved out of the garage and get her set up in it this week.

Hubby is out mowing the tinder...I mean yard. Doesn't really need it since it's so dry here half the yard is dead, but he needs to break in the new serpentine belt.

My antigen and testing equipment along with some ID bands are shipping out Monday, so looking forward to testing at least part of the flock later this week, hopefully. Still trying to get ahold of premium lists for upcoming shows so I can enter. Emails unanswered so far.

Off to do a rain dance, we need it terribly. The corn all around us is all curled up and looks like pineapple tops right now. Not happy corn.

Where did ya get the test box from? They are so expensive for just a box with a light !!! Am waiting for a friend to get me the dimensions of the box so we can make one instead.
What kind of bands are you using? I am a tester now too but don't have the box yet. Wish ET would do a rain dance instead of watering all day long. All I would need would be for our well to go dry !!!

Anyone close to Madison want a barred rock hen? (Or I should say I think she's a barred rock hen.) She was born last Spring and is part of the original 4 that I rehomed last Fall. Well she's become a pain in the you know what and she pecked me today for the last time (bare skin). She's turned mean in the last couple of months and I'm tired of looking out for her & warding her off. Yes I know I could carry her around to break her dominance - don't want to, want her gone. She's very lucky I didn't flatten her with the shovel. (Sorry, I've been sick for the last few days and my tolerance is low, low, low.) Any takers? Sooner rather than later. I'll put her up on Craigslist in a bit if no takers.

Thanks.
Elaine

I
got the testing box from here, best price I found. They aren't the lowest on antigen, but when I factor in extra shipping form somewhere else it evened out, so just got it all from the same source.

I got some plastic bandettes in a few sizes (7, 9, 11) to cover the range of fowl I have at least. Figure I'd check those out and at least it will give me some idea of what I need to order next time.
