Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Glad I could help you out Terri, I just wish I was raising my own chickens for butchering! I would much rather roast 7-9 lb chickens than the 4-5 lb ones you can get.... then when I roast two of them I MIGHT end up with some leftovers!

We had Flank Steak along with the leftover mashed potatoes (they cleaned me out of gravy last night).

My thoughts on the whole pregnant deer in November is this; animals do NOT always expel a dead fetus. This leads to mummification INSIDE the body. It has been documented in horses, cows, sheep, pigs, and even people. This is why I believe those fetuses were in the process of becoming mummified and were NOT going to be born in December. This would not cause any harm to the Doe either, she would have carried those fetuses inside her until she died (she would hopefully not be able to reproduce either).

Fun day today, went to the UW and set up the Strawberry DNA lab, raced to NL to go swimming with my sis and her kids. Had coffee and a scone for lunch, raced home to pick up the DD so she could drive to town to check out the 'Ugly' Christmas sweater collection the local Goodwill has to offer, then came home for dinner and kicked back to watch a little Bonanza with the family. Work tomorrow...... I wish I could have gotten to my windows.....

I hope all of you have an enjoyable evening!
I have about 20 Cornish X you can have for two bags of chick feed. They are 6 weeks old and should be ready for butcher in two weeks.

I live on a 60x120 lot.... not quite sure where I would butcher them.

Evening All... tough to here about Ramses CC.....Best Wishes sent your way....and Hershey does indeed have a xtra wide load!

Thanks for sharing the link about the doe bl4...never seen anything like it before. The small game hunter is all wrong for sure too!

Butchered one extra Buckeye roo today...he wasen't fertile last spring and i still have a great and better specimen for spring breeding...the water scald temp was 160 degrees and the pluck was perfect and easy for a 3 year old bird. He will make wonderful soup...and a big kettle for sure.

Shrimp stirfry with carrots, celery, onions, garlic, and sparegus....over a big bed of brown rice.

Welcome to the cheeseheads josh! The standard brahma isn't as easy to find as you would think. I searched for what seemed like forever.....you can check out the brahma thread here on BYC for some advice, or contact the brahma club....tough getting any help there without joining though.
if you were willing to buy hatchery stock...Cackle hatchery is your best bet for light brahmas....if you find something close let us know.....or just stop and chat with us about life.

Evening all! The weather has been nice, but I'm sad to say that we REALLY need a cold weather snap & lots of snow over the course of this winter. You guys up north are probably all set for the cold, but down here, I have to finish winterizing the house or coop! We did manage to get up the Christmas decorations and reflectors for the driveway (this helps the snowplow guy to know where our driveway is). Otherwise, I bought a thermometer for the coop (so I can tell the temp without opening the coop up) and a remote controlled light switch for the coop light (only if I need to warm up the coop)...these have yet to be installed. Also, I think that I need to figure out how to seal the 2 windows in the coop against draft? For the house, just need to get the windows sealed up. We did get the furnace checked, stacked up a bunch of cut oak from a friend, got the hose put up, and the spigots sealed.

BL4-we butcher ours in the garage and drain them into a clean garbage bag, then bring them in to the house to clean them up. If we can do it, I am sure that anyone else could too!

Jim-I hope your eye feels better soon

CC and delisha-I am getting egg-cited thinking about the chicks! I am anxious to see what the crosses will bring!

Well, I'm gonna have a snack before heading off to bed! Night all......

Well, right now I have a tractor in my garage and people in town (who watch this board) who are just itching to call the cops on me again. I was already busted for the ducks, the last thing I need is getting busted for having chickens even if I am going to butcher them (I bet that there is an ordinance about that as well).

I hope all is well with CC.....
