Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well, right now I have a tractor in my garage and people in town (who watch this board) who are just itching to call the cops on me again. I was already busted for the ducks, the last thing I need is getting busted for having chickens even if I am going to butcher them (I bet that there is an ordinance about that as well).

I hope all is well with CC.....
Well in that case, perhaps if you bring a friend next week or the week after we can butcher them out here if you want them that is. You can take them all packaged up. I would just ask for the feed replaced I put into them and nothing more.
I have two bags in and they will be eating almost a bag a week now.
This is just a suggestion if you are interested the offer is open. I will help butcher too.

Evening all! The weather has been nice, but I'm sad to say that we REALLY need a cold weather snap & lots of snow over the course of this winter. You guys up north are probably all set for the cold, but down here, I have to finish winterizing the house or coop! We did manage to get up the Christmas decorations and reflectors for the driveway (this helps the snowplow guy to know where our driveway is). Otherwise, I bought a thermometer for the coop (so I can tell the temp without opening the coop up) and a remote controlled light switch for the coop light (only if I need to warm up the coop)...these have yet to be installed. Also, I think that I need to figure out how to seal the 2 windows in the coop against draft? For the house, just need to get the windows sealed up. We did get the furnace checked, stacked up a bunch of cut oak from a friend, got the hose put up, and the spigots sealed.

BL4-we butcher ours in the garage and drain them into a clean garbage bag, then bring them in to the house to clean them up. If we can do it, I am sure that anyone else could too!

Jim-I hope your eye feels better soon

CC and delisha-I am getting egg-cited thinking about the chicks! I am anxious to see what the crosses will bring!

Well, I'm gonna have a snack before heading off to bed! Night all......

I m hatching out Heritage RIR for the NYD hatch out. I am getting excited about that too. I will like showing both breeds if these turn out.

Mel, just swing by here on your way to Racine and pick up my plucker.. I won't be needing it for awhile yet..

chickens are giving us 2 dozen per day.. Soooo the pullets must be starting.. this warm autumn helped that cause ..

there is an ad in our local shopper wanting some laying hens.. I will call them tomorrow.. I would sell all of my hens if I could and buy eggs all winter ..

My has quit hurting.. that wasn't so bad.. have to go in a couple of weeks to do the other one..se levie..

Annie has some powder that she adds to the gravy to "stretch" it.. I like (liked) lots of gravy.. and I like sauces too.. like hollendaise and white (as in biskits and gravy) and corned beef gravy.. can you figure out why I am 60 pounds over weight ? I had the munchies tonight.. ran out of grapes yesterday.. so I made an onion and liverwurst 1/2 sandwich..
a slight cheat..

that doe could have been bred late. were the babies alive when she was shot ?

can't think of anything else..

....jimworkingonfallingthroughhisasshole........

this is how I installed the roosts in the main coop.. they are each 16 feet long.. 2 by 6's. I still should add at least one more.. they are in pockets on each end so I can remove them by just lifting up.. in this position, I can shovel underneath them easily.. for major cleaning, I remove them..

this was one of my last jungle fowl roosters.. I had 4,, sold 3 and wouldn't you know it ,the one I kept died.. I still have a couple of black hens.. the black hen with the 4 chicks is a cross breed of them..

Hi everyone- quick question. Most of my eggs have a small red spot on the yolk. Does that mean it's fertilized? Also- the other day I cracked an egg in the pan and the whole thing was pink, with a larger red spot on the yolk. Grossed me out to see all that pink slime, so I scooped it all out of the pan. What was that?! Never seen that before

what are you feeding other than regular food ? beets,, marigold ?
it could be blood..?

Some hens sometimes lay those once in a while I will get a blood spot or a meat spot........... in 2 year I have had maybe 3, so it isn't often, not sure what causes it maybe Jim can enlighten us again with all his knowledge.......... or if anyone else can wager a guess.....I'd be interested........... bought the girls some cracked corn today they haven't had any in awhile, they pigged out, glad it was the end of the day when they got it, or my egg production would be down in a few days, they are finally slowing down here the dark deary days are being felt now ,only got 12 eggs today....... expecting less tomorrow. They could all take break for a few days a week, to recoop.
My miracle hen Snowflake is back with her brethren tonight, I let her out at 4pm to see how she would get along now, she has been in the cage a few hours everyday getting use to everyone, and they are getting use to her, she seems fine tonight though she didn't go on the roosts I had to bring her in the coop, she was on my hay with Hansom protecting her. So I carried both of them in the coop and put out the stall light. She seemed as though she was fending off everyone who wanted to pick on her, so for right I will keep a close eye out for her. I hope this cold snap don't make her sick, she has been in the house in 70 degrees for a month now, but she regrew all her feathers so she should be ok....... she didn't seem chilly tonight so hope it stays that way.

Well Just got off the phone with hubby, supposedly he is on his way home......he is in Grant NM, and heading to Neenah wi. with a load of paper rolls....... so lets hope they actually let him come home, I do not trust them people or Chuck anymore, so we will see......... It better true, or I will go crazy............ 3 weeks without him has been Hel_l so anyway going to bed now grandson will will have me awake at 6am........... so night all....Kim

Hi All!

DrH... Did they have mites?

Glad they they are doing well! Kissy and Toby? Guess it would work.

BL4....By the looks of those fawns, I agree, they were probably dead for some tome and never expelled. I saw it with a foal once.

kristi....Wow... Pink eye? Hope the rest of the family doesn't get it! Remember, even the dog can get it.

steve... I think we all are/were a bit squeamish at first. You really have to learn to distance yourself a bit. But not too distant.

joe... when I was 5 the neighbor butchered chickens. They gave me the "job" of running down chickens that got loose after beheading. I think they let a couple go on purpose

chased one right down to the road!

Got me over squeamish real quick.

jim... glad your eye is feeling better!

Josh... I may have a lead on some Brahmas too.... will let you know.

Delish...... If Bl4 doesn't want the chickens, I'll talk to DH about them. We would have to butcher there tough. So what would the price be? 4 bags?

CS.... I checked on that house..... WOW.... what a deal! That is real hard to resist! AND it's in Walworth CO.! Walworth Co. not only is low in taxes, but, they are trying to preserve farm and wildlife land. They really try to but a kibosh on developments. If you think you can live with the drive to work, I would say go for it!

GR... Hope Hubby makes it home!

No CC... I guess she had to but Ramses down and is pretty bummed.

We had Rooster and dumplings tonight... yum!

Well, the little black got a home today. The gal that got her said that a little black kitty is all her 3 year old wanted for Christmas. St. Nick is going to bring her.

The B&W one may get a home tomorrow (Wed.) The gal said she has a friend that wanted a kitten too, but, she just may get her for herself!

Guess that's it..... Night All!
