Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

large enough to make a walking stick! She only brought a piece of one home. Just add it to the collection of items she has bought off the natives over the last 8 years!

the sex link link was interesting and will have to try it this year, and I think it might have made my idea to go all wyandotte a little easier! oh the options!

TO the muscovies are pretty cool and am wondering how they would do in a chicken tractor with poultry fencing with a small scrape (hole that holds water) type environment

does anyone have a lab that they use as a bird dog and it is around thier chickens? I am trying to convince my family we should have a lab! I only have to make a small deal with the devil! lol

we had moose t-bone and moose burgers for dinner tonight!

Are you all ready for this storm?

Joe
My yellow Lab is Blonde to the bone. He can't remember that chickens are friends not food. The chickens are equally to blame running around, darting about acting just like prey. Now to let the birds out to roam, the dog has to wear a muzzle which depresses him to the point of being a vegetable just laying around like a big yeller squash.

I'm missing 3 ducks. My muscovy girl, my female aussie and her male counter part. I saw them yesterday i think. but nothing all day today!

Also my pullets didnt get Bigz memo about laying through the winter without additional light. I'm lucky if I get an egg a day. That is just pure CRAP for how many birds I have. I need to get the lights on a timer. I'm not putting up with this all winter. Lazy birds...

We went and met therapy temperment puppies today. Watched them for a good 45 minutes as Halden buzzed around. I finally picked the one who seemed most consistently interested in Halden and I. So cute to see a little 4 wk old puppy follow my boy, stop by him, look up and wag his tiny tail. There are a few times when Halden slows down, and this puppy seemed very patient with him bopping all around, just waiting his turn to be noticed.

He wont be ready to go until Jan 11. But that's just fine with me. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to see how the pups interacted with Halden, and vice versa. Hate to just pick a puppy from a picture when its purpose is important.

So what's the puppy going to be when it grows up and stops being so darn cute?

OH and timers will be on clearance after xmas light season if you can wait a week or so.

Mazojoe - I know you asked about labs, and I'm not sure if they can be used as a bird dog and let chickens alone. I have a golden retriever that hunts pheasants, and retrieves ducks and geese and has never touched my free range chickens, mallards, call ducks or the Canada goose I used to have - unless he is told to. I had a very mean Lavender Orpington rooster that I would tell him to grab whenever it would come after me. He would stand there and hold it in his mouth till he was told to drop it. Then the rooster would run off and leave me alone. This dog has never been in a kennel or kept on a leash. He doesn't leave our property. He goes swimming down in the river behind our house and chases rabbits and squirrels once in a while, but he sticks around. I would highly recommend one. The only downfall is the long hair gets lots of things caught in it when pheasant hunting. The short hair on labs is a plus.

Oh. My. Gosh. That is the cutest thing! What breed is he? Glad you found a good match

He is a standard poodle. I am going to include him in some of the therapy sessions. The dog then serves as a bridge from what was covered in therapy when they aren't in session. The child is shown to hold onto progress better when they have a touchstone to remind them, like the dog. A whole bunch of good things about it. I'm not relying on the dog to BE the therapy, but be a bridge from therapy to home life. Also a great way for non verbal communication and spatial issues to be addressed. Good stuff for sure.

Hi All!

Well, so far I think I'm OK.... made some herbs for Yong son and will start taking them myself.... just in case! Flu Shot will have to wait a few days

DrH.... Your drawers must be nice and warm! Long as they aren't damp or mushy

CS.... Yes, well said! (I often wonder if my intent gets out of my head and down the fingers and to the "paper")

Judge... Nice looking flock Colt has.... was kinda hopping you got a shot of him in there.

BigZ... Hope baby Jesus comes home!

TO... YouTube didn't flip the video... Man they take advantage of that little tub!

JJ... Nice roo... I often thought it would be cool to have a chicken with red or brown stripes like the bared rocks have in black.

bl4... Sounds like the school is trying to do right to help squelch any fears. Sadly I'm not that surprised about those clerks being ignorant. Seems to be happening more and more.

Bigfam.... That little guy looks like just the ticket. Good that they let the bonding start early while training is still taking place. I heard fallow up training can last 2 or more years depending on the need. That's good that they don't leave you hanging as things change. From what I've seen they get great results working with dogs. The biggest draw back is the life span of the dog

All in all it's well worth a try!

Mjoe...Rudy is fair with the chickens. He dose have that "flushing" instinct, in that he likes to run at them and watch them scatter!

A few times he's had feathers in his mouth, but never killed or hurt any. If it looks like he wants to "chase" when I go to let him out, I just tell him "leave it" and he's usually OK . He has helped heard the turkeys when they got out. I guess it boils down to training over breed in instinct.

I think I came up with a hobby that Neil can do! It's hard finding things to keep him busy that aren't too frivolous or childish that he can handle with his MS. After Christmas I'll teach him how to make Rag Rugs! I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner! I know how to do 4 types and he should be able to do at the very least one. I just wish I still had my old loom, but we could make one if he wants to try that way. The one I had was a REAL nice floor one though. Just didn't have a place to put it at the time so I gave it away!

Any way... this should be good therapy for him!

That's it.... night All!

Good Morning Everyone! OO OO rags rugs put me on the buyers list! Everytime I look at them in the stores they have the china label. So far Cindy Toby's been lucky

Changing the milky oil in the torque tube on my Case still has me wondering if the hyd pump will work now. Had it apart a few times and couldn't find anything wrong. Betting it was the oil. Maybe Bigz has big deep tumblers! Delisha hope it was just a little! Vic "hobbyist"

Thanks for the well wishes for L! Spent the better part of the day in Marshfield yesterday for her pre-op. Not good timing on this snow will leave a little early on Thurs. Chickens will be locked up for nearly 2 days think I'll put some new straw in the coop for them to play with. Guess I'll be wearing all the hats around here for about a month but as long as she gets better it'll be well worth it!
