ok- so I need to wait until one of the hens go broody and then quick put some eggs under her? In the fall it was always one of the chanticlars that went broody, but it probably be one of the barred rocks that I would be putting under her- will she still take care of the babies? Would she and the eggs need to be separated, or could they just take up one of the egg boxes that the rest would normally use if she wasn't in there? Will the other chickens eat the babies?Oh, and if you have a broody, she will usually keep them warm enough, both the eggs & the chicks (I have heard some stories about bad mamas too).
Terri can give you some great stories/examples of good ones. She had a hen hatch out chicks in some horriffic cold temps, and she says they (the chicks) are the hardiest birds she has, and Terri has alot of birds.![]()
