Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

That coop is so adorable, Judge, but how do you clean underneath it?
Thanks CC. Since the picture was taken, we enclosed a large area around the coop with a picket fence lined with chicken wire. You can kind of see the posts in one of pictures . Mostly they roam around in the fenced in area, and a few, including Colt our rooster, fly over the top and free range for the day. They fly back over at night. I really haven't had to clean under there yet. Actually, our mini horse goes in the right door of the run and lies down in there for shelter, and our two fainting goats sleep underneath in the middle. It is a multi-animal coop

I have been adding straw on top of straw, and the chickens have been scratching in there and turning it over. I figure in the spring I'll rake it out.

Awwww, thanks Ghost!  :hugs   I do adore my lavender girls. I've been wanting them for a long time, and thanks to Bigfam, the playgirl, I finally have some.  :hugs    :love

No snow moving down here. It was all melted when I got up this AM.  :clap    And we're expecting thunderstorms tonight & tomorrow. Really? Thunderstorms in January?

Terri, how exactly do you lose one YakTrack? I could expect that outta Frenchie.  ;)

Those are some beautiful birds, Jim!

Hope you don't get sick too bad, David!  :hugs   Lots of fluids!

Hey Ghost, you still got that mini incubator?

Jeline, how big of a coop are you allowed? Do they have square foot restrictions? Even if you are only allowed 8 birds, I'd recommend building the largest coop you can possibly get away with, since the birds will spend a lot of time in there during winter/inclimate weather. And being crowded will only cause both behavioral and odor issues.  ;)   Plan on a roosting area with poop boards, nesting areas, places away from the roosting/nesting areas for food & water in winter, electrical outlets to plug in heaters/heat bulbs/heated waterers, fans etc. and a light to be able to see in there. You might also want to consider a possible wintertime dust bath area? (away from food & water). Hope that helps you.

Sorry CC Sold the little bator, about a month ago, school teacher from up Shawno way wanted to hatch for her class....... hoping to have the money to buy the Octagon 20 come February. that way I can hatch all my roos together and not have to separate everyone one a month apart so the little guys don't get beat up.....

I was just checking out if there was an Easter Hatch-a-long... There's been for the last three years, so hopefully there will be again...;)

Off to dream about eggs, and more eggs and MORE eggs in the incubator! :D

Jetliner...where are you located? I will have speckled Sussex and silkies come spring that will be pure of the ones you are looking at. Carol will have jaerhans and duccles. I would love a Polish myself.

Well the girls are starting to lay again... Had about 8 yesterday and 6 today from my 14 girls. Best since fall.

I also wouldn't mind a punk rock Polish chicken, but they are ornamental, and do not lay well....they are also not very big for butchering into rooster soup either, so will see... but maybe I will buy 1 someday.

For all her talk, CC is too soft to borrow any of my kids. Now may be babylady's...;)

I don't know about soft, but I definitely do not have the energy level.

Kristi meant you, Jeline. The r was just a typo, I'm sure. We all do that from time to time.  :)

Yes me... My iPad changes my words with its idea of spellcheck constantly. I apologized when I got it... It stinks in that aspect, but I love it otherwise. Wish I was closer but I am south of Madison.

Hi All! Well, we have thunder and lighting... guess spring is here! ........ I WISH!!!

vicki.... I know what you mean..... I think we all all start talking about chicks and....WANT THEM ALL!!! I have decided I want to take Delish up on a few of those BLRW (Blue laced Red Wyandotte) she's getting and I would also like a couple of Marns. I'll be hatching more EE's and Ameracaunas this year and some Dom's but I guess no good layers (RIP Ozzy

)

Judge.... When I hatched my temp went way up (due to a little girl tampering)! I think it was like 115 or so for a few hours and I still had a decent hatch. I would think a hen hatching in summer may get eggs up that high (103). If Jim says they should be good, I wouldn't worry.

Jim.... Nice truck decorations!

GR... Hope Adam gets home soon!

Jel.... My Australops and Dominiques seem to be the most "talkative" they always tell me all the gossip when I go to the coop. I have a couple of Ameraucans that like to fallow me around and I have a few other friendly ones too. Allot depends on how much time you spend with them too.

Well, I managed to tackle the "big turkey poo mountain"! LOL Got a few other things picked up too. Tomorrow (Tue.) I will fluff the straw in the main coop and give them some fresh straw. The turkey hen in the "other" pen seems to have a sinus infection.

Been reading up on it... TO, I see one of yours had one a while back... saw your posts!
Young son said no work at the ski hill tomorrow! Guess they are a little worried about lightning on a hill with large metal pulleys and cables on 20' foot metal polls! LOL Not to mention the 100' flag pole on the highest hill.... attached to the "power" hut.

Must try to sleep.... night all!

Wet morning everyone, Tried to take the chows for a walk but everything is glare ice. Even the dogs wanted to come back in. Am hoping for a delay, I don't want to drive on the highway when it is glare ice, too many people speeding because they have 4 wheel drive. It is supposed to be beautiful later on, am sure the banties will like going outside today

stay sage everyone

If you all remember back to the NYD hatch along and my experience with the Partridge Penendesceca eggs I bought from My Pet Chicken, well I have an update. A week after the last email from them, I received a phone call. They had looked into the problem further, even getting the owner involved. According to them their shipping methods have been changed (remember these eggs are drop shipped from Gabbard Farms) and they wanted to send me a second set of 12 eggs for free. Of course they weren't laying well enough at the time so she said they would call when the eggs could be sent. (funny they didn't have any trouble sending eggs in the middle of Dec though) I got a call yesterday and an email confirmation with a tracking number, the replacement eggs will be here Wednesday! (good timing as my White Orpinton eggs will be moving into the other incubator for lock down on Saturday, I'll just move them over early and put the turner on for a few days)

I'm happy that My Pet Chicken it trying to make it right and they looking into how these eggs were being handled and shipped. Now I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that at least a few of this batch develop and hatch.

I will keep you updated along the way as these are incubated.
