jvls1942 - Do you think this would work?

We would still have to build a run for the chickens since we have dogs, and I want to make sure everyone gets along before we let them coexist :)
Our yard is a little over a half acre, so not a huge yard like the rest of you probably have, and just our backyard is fenced in (6ft privacy) which is where we let the dogs and pig out.
I want to make sure that the chickens have enough room. I will be letting them free range when I am supervising. We were thinking about building something outside of the fence, but I am not sure I like that.
We have a few decisions to make yet.

SO up and down sort of day:

School closed=Good!
More lay offs coming=Bad
12 eggs collected today=AWESOME! The most i have ever had in one day was 9 (with 12 hens in the summer) I now have 21 hens and its winter!

) You can only get it on Amazon right now BUT they have it for $12.14 on sale. For that price I just had to order it to check it out, besides, I am a Prime member so it even shipped two-day for free. (Fedex is going to hate me because that means they will be coming up our driveway every day this week!~got to quit finger shopping when the weather gets pukey). If anyone's interested, I can let you know what I think of it.

Must have been a major drunk hit a pole or something around here during the night. No DSL this morning, then DSL but no phone, then phone, then no phone, checking connections, switching wires, wow talk about trying to get decrepid braincells to kick back in and think back to my days (mmmaaaannnnyyyy years ago)when I got my Post associate in Fiber Telecommunications (back in the day when that was a WOW! glass phone lines, really???) Anyway, finally got things working on my end, phone co. fixed their end, now because the electronics must have taken a hit I only have to buy a new cordless phone system. Oh darn, more finger shopping,

Better make sure Ollie is gassed up. sounds like you guys will be catching the worst of this next one. Just clipping us folks to the north again (or so they say).

My girls went 4 for 4 again today!

Whew, I was worried because my little Broody Butt didn't act like she was feeling good the other day. Good chookies. They REALLY didn't like coming down the ramp today and stepping in ice water. They stood there for a minute like they were debating whether or not to just back right right but then like someone said, "GO!" they took off for the greenhouse. Silly girls. Finally braved the yard this afternoon when they heard me puttering and discovered that they could actually get to some of the grass now. Happy chookies.

Still thinking about GL Wyandottes but not happy with the suppliers I've found so far. You don't have any of those, do you Jim????

Good day for eggs..congrats!

I am still waiting on two pullets to start..my one white rock and blue orp..they are making the noise but not investigating nests yet. All the rest are laying but the broody.

This weekend we should have some peeping going on.

The incubator is cooking nicely..I should hatch a good dozen

Welcome Jelinek11,

Do you live on that street? I work at the school near by. If so, I am not sure if you can have Chickens where you live. I do know a few people who have them in town but it depends on your neighbors. I live in Rib Mt/Mosinee area, If you ever want to check out my small coop just let me know.
I like silver laced Wyandottes , they are nice producers and give lots of eggs.

We had a delay today, Kids were excited and talking about tomorrow. I don't know, Been in Wi for 40 years, don't remember the weather being this strange

Vicki..I might have found a supplier..she does show..so they must be quality..I was going to order chicks in April..she also sells eggs..For the cost of eggs and the risk involved..I think I am getting the chicks. I really want some quality ones for breeding. I will be going to illi show and will look there for them too.

That is TON of posts! Yeah for the Cheeseheads!

Good evening all--I just got in from playing outside all day at 5pm! I was cold and wet, but happy with all I got accomplished in a day! Actually It was half a day cause I didnt get outside until after noon! I got the meaties cleaned up...their pen was getting wet again and I am now waiting until nest week to butcher...I dont want anyone coming over when it is going to be so cold and icy! Then I got the little coop cleaned, the quail and the inside box coup too! Tomorrow I need to do the pigeons...hopefully I can!

SO I took some picks as I was outside...I will load them first and then explain them cause I never know what order they will post...
SO GLAD I hung this blanket over the skid loader to dry last night...

Here is the little coop I was talking about AmberJet. I built it out of some shutters from my parent's house and wood I scavenged from trash etc. It is much harder to build something using re-purposed wood and if I was to do it again, I would use new stuff if at all possible! The PVC pen I found on the side of the road for trash pick up.

Make sure if you are going to put any insulation in it you have it inaccessible to the chickens--LOL!

Hey Jim--here is my barred rock roo. he is still a youngster but I am penning him with some girls as soon as I get the pens set.

His striping is not any where near as nice as the ones that Dan(?) provided the link to! I think he has more of that Cuckoo pattern...

The one good thing with this coop: I made it so I could take the bottom board off and rake it out. There is a pan in there too but it doesnt fit the whole floor cause it was an afterthought.

Muddy and wet pony waiting for dinner!

I do believe my glacier is receding!

Now THIS really ticked me off!!!! I was rinsing down some stuff from the coops and looked through the trees and saw something? BLAST! I was out there and a hawk killed one of my hens! He was busy ripping her apart. Of course I didnt have the gun out there...I threw a stick at him and he flew off. I promptly went to get the gun. By the time I was about done he was back and I got a shot---didnt hit him but I hope it scared him enough that he wont be back? I love raptors but I hate when they decide to eat my stuff! Of course she was a good laying hen...

OK--the kids are home and they want me to get going frying the chicken....I will probably be back later...TerriOnotevenhungryandmybackissorefromworkingoutsideallday
