Short day for me!

Companies were cancelling loads, shipping companies calling back drivers, drivers unable to get anywhere, etc. etc. etc..... so since the weather is sh!t they sent home everyone who lived a distance away at noon.

Four hours of work and I still get paid; not too shabby!

Judge, forget about using the cardboard box and listen to Jim. If you have a big rubbermaid container you can use that IF you make darn certain that lamp is going NOWHERE. I used the biggest one I could get and then covered the top with a screen to keep my cats out and keep the chicks in (they learn how to jump on top of the food and water jars pretty quickly). If I were you, I would set up the brooder and post pics so that it can get the Jim *Seal of Approval.

Making fajitas for dinner tonight.... and then Chili tomorrow!

Ok quick post because I am laughing...so yesterday was a flooded mess in the run and today snowy crazy day...best egg day ever.mgot ten eggs from fourteen hens. Wow. They must have missed the message that this is winter.

well, I must be adicted.. I went out and tried plowing.. I did only a strip down the drive and the parking area where Annie parks her car.. my car is buried under the snow.. I didn't realize we have so much and still more coming down.. At one point, I couldn't see right in front of me.. the snow was falling and the wind is blowing.. Imagine,, having to stop a tractor that is hardly moving because you can't see a thing..

to make things even worse,, the ice under the snow gives no traction.. I made half my mileage up in spinning tires..

but the temperature is still bearable, and I still had a ball.....

I am not going to unload the straw today..

Good afternoon! I spent lots of time outside moving snow around, doing basic chores and puting feed away. My wonderful neighbor went to pick the feed up for me...my truck has a flat and the big truck wouldnt start...I did get the drive cleared and my car cleaned off. Of course the snow plow then went by and tossed snow 10' into my cleared drive!

I guess I will have to go back out and do more clearing. Now the snow is coming down again...it looks like there is about 6" out there so far...

I made some delicious "eggs in jail" when I came in. Neighbor also brought me some more of that GF bread...I have 6 loaves drying in the oven right now to make bread crumbs. I see more breaded chicken etc in my future! (It was so yummy) All of you other GFers out there; have you tried "Goodbye Gluten" brand bread yet? Delicious! (and it takes a REALLY long time before it goes moldy!) I contacted the company and found that Roundy's stores in many cities sell it--not cheap of course!

How exciting about the babies Judge! Listen to everyone though...a cardboard box is not good. THey are way too messy and wet for cardboard! Not to mention the fire hazard

I do like JJ and put them in a fishtank. It is fun to watch them running around for a few weeks until they get too stinky; then they go to the basement here. Good luck!

Thinking I better do some laundry...then it will be time for chores once again...sigh.

(PS) I didnt even ask the DH about transporting the chicks....call me chicken! (I am saving the favor for when I "ask" for another puppy in a couple weeks!)

I just got word from Annie that our friend who I get my straw from and americauna eggs etc.. just went to Madison for an emergency kidney transplant.. Annie called another neighbor of his to find this all out.. Brian has a coyote problem.. just a lone coyote comes right up to the barn and is killing sheep.. there is a guy trying to catch it in the act, but no luck so far.. I am wondering if it might be a lone wolf ?? Mazo, what do you think ? Dan followed the tracks in the new snow and determined his findings.. they know where it comes from and at about what time.. 1 AM to 4 AM on clear nights..

I spose I should go let the birds loose.. and get my picture of the turkey hens..

What makes them think that it is a single k9? Also a coyote is capable, just not likely by itself. I would lean towards a neighbors dog first then wolf then coyote...set up a trail cam for sure and I guess call turtle man he will wait all hours of the night! lol

I sure hope they get the culprit.

Well... we got plenty of snow here! Just came in from the coops, the snow drifts were up over my knees!

I think my bantam black cochin laid her first egg today. Cute little thing! Pretty sure it came from her and not just one of those tiny first eggs from the SFHs.

The post office called me this morning to pick up the Partridge Penedesceca eggs from My Pet Chicken. Packing was better this time, still not double boxes like the eggs I get from swaps on here. The PO had smashed one of the corners too. The order was for 12 eggs, they sent 16. One was broken and three others are wet... not sure if there is a hairline crack on those or what yet. They were on the top layer. The bottom layer all look good. They did put in a heat pack this time, right under the last layer. Letting them come up to room temp then will candle to check for more cracks before setting them tonight.

I think I might set a SFH egg too and maybe a couple of the Wheaten Marans eggs. They would both be covered by the SFH rooster. Then I'll know if he's doing his job.

I've only witnessed him being frisky once, guess he's shy?!

My suburban part time free range girls enjoyed some out time in the yard yesterday. Here in New Berlin we got just about 2 inches today and now the temps are dropping!

Nice to get a break from the achy breaking cold for a day though.

Evening all, school today, had to listen to students complain all morning that we had school , then all afternoon asking me why we didn't close. We got about 5 inches. I got the funniest text today. About a week ago my neighbor with the chicken told me she was going to use the hose type watering sistem. So I opened up my text message and she wrote. "Hey Dave, you want any of my nipples?" At first I thought OMG, but then I remembered our conversation It made my week.

Nice birds on that video Cind! DD26 just got home from work and she thinks that they still have volleyball tonight! We are having giblets and broth for dinner and cranberry/walnut muffins that I just made...they are fantastic! The recipe was actually for blueberry muffins but there really was no way I was going to the store...I made up the variation. Here is the link for those of you that do GF:
