Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh man, Peafowl?

I don't know.

It seems like one of those "good idea at the time" things that 6 months down the road you look at the birds and think " What in the firetruck was I thinking"

and I think the drive home tired me out more than the butchering. Snow blowing around, roads not plowed, somebody up your tailpipe like it's nascar and we're drafting.

I took all 3 opportunities to stop and ask people if they were ok in the ditch after they passed me and spun out going too fast.

It was sadistically satisfying.

The brownies were not hard

It was a "Bob's red mill gluten free brownie mix" I was looking in the Gluten free 5 things on the shelf at the store, because I didn't want to poison TerriO by trying something from scratch and only coming close to GF out of ignorance of my bottle of vanilla or some such.

I disolved about 2 teaspoons instant coffee into the liquids before I added the mix. Then another half a teaspoon into the egg whites and powdered sugar for the frosting. Without the frosting the brownies are a little harsh like really dark chocolate.

well, back to lurking for me.

TO let me know how much on the peafowl. **** me.

Nice pic Judge! It is good to see your face again!

DH made me steak for dinner. Baked potatoes and veggies rounded things out. Yummy!

Had a little 'talk' with the oldest DD the other day..... she has been a completely different kid ever since.

I hope it lasts......

Dang I want some chickens........

Marans and some Ameraucana's......

I was naughty and bought one of those indoor greenhouses for starting seeds. Now all I need are a few lights and I am ready to roll! I keep thinking of what I could plant and where.... with such limited space it makes growing a garden interesting....

Not much else going on here.

Depends on the bird for introduction..

Quarantine procedure:

Two weeks of observation on the hospital..different shoes and cloths
Week three and week four I place one of my birds in with the new birds.
This does two things
1. Each bird has its own antibodies. If the new bird had lets say....pox. or cocci .it will not show any signs of it, it will just infect my healthy birds. Putting one of my birds in with it will let me see what the new bird carries.
2. Risking one of my birds is better than risking my whole flock. If my one bird or the other birds becomes ill after the two weeks, I cull the new birds and my one bird. The rest of my flock is safe.

Hi again--I really thought I would not be on again tonight but sheesh...seems the hockey game is more important that me or the kids (that are AT the game) but birthdays again next week....so here I am...
Having some yummy popcorn for dinner up here in the bed with the DOG! (I even put the fresh sheets on!) OK OK I know...TMI! Oh well--his loss! LOL! Any of you guys dealt0 with a woman scorned? Yeah....

Tomorrow I will be cleaning out the stall that the meaties were in. I have some very pregnant goats to get in there soon. I am hoping that it will be warm enough this weekend to get it done! It is really chilly out there now...I didnt think it was getting that cold tonite!
I am glad I got the birds packaged and in the freezer! Tonight they would have gotten frozen for sure! The weather is saying it is 7! Isnt is supposed to be fairly warm this weekend? Darn weather anyway.

OK--heading off to check for chicken foot recipes!

Thanks everyone. I need to start cooling my chicks down. I went to town to buy everything today and specifically to buy a 250wtt bulb and thermometer...got the bulb...forgot the thermometer. Hate when that happens. I think with the storms and blizzard warning in effect probably a good thing to just leave them in the house. I took a zillion photos of them. Named a page on Facebook...under chickwithchickz. I went to buy hamburger..I don't have to do it often as we buy a beef from the neighbor...holy cow...4.58lb....forget that. Ham was on sale...1.00lb....so bought a ham instead. Made a spiced honey mustard glaze...yummy! Hey...question...baking powder biscuits....when I lived in IN growing up...my bisects rocked! Here in south central MN...nope. Hockey pucks. Beautiful flakes...tastes good...but flat....no puff....I've tried increasing the baking powder....any here have the magic know how to get them to rise?

it was a gloomy day here...even Amery wasn't crowing as much. he's such a good guy...I have dog kennels inside the spa room...he tucks his ladies all in one and sleeps in front of the door. He loves his ladies. Glad to read about new bird intros. Do you all still quarantine if you know where they came from? I have some new LF Cochins coming from my friend. I know their clear. Would you still suggest the 4 week wait?

Good luck with cats in the house. As soon as those seeds start sprouting, it's chow time!

Vicki, I'm sure your DH was having a ball watching the parade.

I love Nascar too, but not on days like yesterday. I'm glad you took it slow.

Now Terri.............you know what chickens all step in, right??????????? I mean seriously????? There is no stinkin' way I'd eat anything with a chicken's foot in it! Sorry!

Denise, I still watch for at least 2 weeks before adding new additions to the flock. Then I'll put them in the carport with the flock, but they're seperated by a fence for at least a week before I completely introduce them. Seeing each other but not touching seems to greatly help in the introduction process for me.

one more thing for hamburger,, I can't believe I forgot to mention it,, it is my absolute favorite to make and eat.. cowboy beans !!!!!!!!!

quarantine ?? never use it.. I had a bad wxperience once,, but that was with chickens from a broker type guy.. I just never buy from livestock dealers anymore.. you do realize that sometimes the chickens coming in are ok,, it might be the resident flock that might be the carrier.

Hi All!
Anyone hear from FT at all? Anyone got her Email? Seems like a long time since she checked in.

Wow TO... Nice pile of dead birds! LOL

Jim.... Glad the guineas gave the seal of approval to their new fancy digs! LOL Going to be a pain getting the eggs out though.

Ok... I can no longer remember what else I read

The snow pulled loose some of the flight net for the turkey run and while we were in town I guess the 2 hens got out. When I went down to close up one hen was back in the coop and the other was sitting on top of the small turkey pen. I think she was happy when I "rescued" her. It's kinda fixed now. The chickens do NOT want to leave the coop with all the snow on the ground! So the aren't quite so bored I leave the door open to both parts of the coop. It gives them a bit more room and places to go. However, I'm having a hard time finding eggs! They aren't using the nests in the main coop and the ones I find are kinda scattered about. I'm sure I'm missing some!

Guess I'll have to close the door for a few days.

Guess that's it.... Night All!
