Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

congrats on the duck eggs!

I just stopped by to shout about my first blue egg. woohoo!

I think it was the wheaten ameraucana (sp.?) as it was left on the floor. she has a bad hip.

Hi all! You all lots to say, so hopefully I remember everything:
Jim- are cowboy beans like what we call calico beans? Beans, bacon, hamburger etc? If so, that is one of my favorites too!
Delisha and BBl4- Thanks! Hopefully I'll be able to see a lot of your faces this summer.

Terri-- those birds were huge! And I don't think I would eat feet, but when my dad helped me butcher our roosters in fall I heard a lot of stories about them eating chicken feet when they were kids.
Quarantine- so far so good for me. I haven't quarantined any of my new birds.

One of our wheaten ameraucanas died. Her name was Joy. I have no idea what was wrong with her. But- I think she was the weakest bird we have and her and her sister have not given me an egg since August, so I guess I'm not too upset about it. Happens I guess....
Chicks are doing great, but becoming a lot more skittish. To whoever asked, mine are a week old, and I plan on leaving them for another week or two, and then they are going outside in the brooder box.
I am getting tired of looking at poopy paper towels, so I am putting straw in there tonight. Maybe they'll quit eating all the dried up poop too.

Hope you all have a good day!

Ewww at chicken feet, duck blood soup and pics of dead chickens!!!

BBP: Congrats on the eggs and like the pic update!!!

House sitting: Is it illegal at the house your leaving or the house your moving in to?

Thank you! And all the gory details on how you skin them doesn't help matters any.

DrH, that is so cool that Toby likes to fetch. Ramses used to love to fetch with DH.

Terri & Jim, maybe a golf ball retriever would work? The kind with a basket? Or a fruit picker if you already have one? I think those would be more efficient for collecting eggs than one of those grabbers, and have a much longer handle.

Del, I agree with JJ not to give up on your eggs just yet. They might be ok.

OK....my baby peeps have been getting so much attention that I thought I better share photo's of my gals and Big Boy...Amery...

And then of course i had to sneak one of Piggie...Love her to death. (she's much bigger now)

I do have a question though - What's the real difference between an Easter Egger and an Americauna? Mine does has a beard...
I'm not 100% sure if I she lays or not....I do every blue moon get a pale pink long egg - which I think is hers...She LOVES to sit on the eggs...but the eggs she likes to sit on are brown ones that are from my Red Star and Gold Sex Link....SO??? The two Buffs I have "aka...The Old great Aunts" I don't believe are laying. They're 3 years old and I've yet to see them do anything. They are a couple of old dried up biddies too. (hence their nickname) And of course...My beautiful boy...Amery...I bought him from AngieBubs...
