Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am in Mosinee just south of the Wausau area. i am looking to get an incubator for hatching but wanted chicks to start with so I would have eggs by fall. My little girl is so upset. I ran to the post office before she woke up and looked through the box before she got up. She had picked out some of the chicks for her Valentines Day gift. I felt so bad I had to tell her what happened. I racked my brain last night trying to figure out what I could do, between my tears I found you guys. I appreciate your guidence.

If your not picky and just want to get some chicks for your daughter Chick Days start next week at Tractor Supply. According to their site the chicks are set to ship 2/25 . You could call a tractor supply to see when they plan them to be there.

Welcome Cuties and sdelfe........... a great bunch here and always wiling to help, I expect many offer's of chicks to come through today hehe lots of chicken enablers on this thread too, me included hehehe.......
anyway I'm up here in NE Wi. just south of Shawno, near Nichols, I will be hatching chicks, come March or April depends on the weather I may even have a few hens to sell after I sort out my EE's and 2 year olds......... so if your in the neighborhood, feel free to come visit and check out some possible chicks........

BL4....Hows that runt this morning ? hope he is feeling better at the vets....... vet,s sometimes can work miracles, praying for one for you.....
DRHa.... Still sending prayers for dads quick recovery and future health, the docs maybe can't operate, but if ya wanna try to ease his systems maybe you could try, hawthorn berry its a mild heart medicine, coq10 might also help, and it really would not be too much trouble to have him seen by a natural therapist, there is always that option it may not solve the issue but could help with the symptoms and possible pain

Jim where you at? I haven't see you in a few posts, are you freezing your keester off working on that pen in this nasty cold weather?? hehe anyway I have a question for you seeing that you are a building guroo also, I have a once beautiful square coffee table, that's been sitting in my basement for 15 years, my 1 dog chewed the wicker outa the bottom, but now its seems are coming apart due to sitting and drying.... its solid oak, and cost me alot of bucks back in 1990....... I was always gonna fix it but never got it done along with 6 zillion other projects around here..... so is it ruined now? should I tear it apart and keep the oak, or is it still fixable, I have to say I really loved this table once and in all these years haven't found 1 of like quality...... let me know if its possible to salvage this.. also had an idea for a hatcher/ incubator, its a small cabinet foam insulated was a worm raising bed for years that is also sitting in my basement forever, could this be made into a hatcher for chicks?

Well the new tenants moved in some bed frames and a livingroom set last night, god I sure hope this isn't the end of a good friendship..... but I just couldn't say no they need the help...... I hear ya CIND AND TerriO, and I ALREADY SET SOME ground rules with them and there naughty children..... alittle worried about all these dogs, but we will manage.... so its off to finish my basement so they can bring more later today before the snow starts............ take care all and drive safe if heading somewhere tonight mother nature appears to be going on the war path again...... later Kim

good AM , not much to write about here..

it does look like I have my drill problem solved,, I hope.. I spent a good part of yesterday. working on drills..

I guess my incentive came when I found a charger online.. it alone was $99.oo..!!!

I took the Bosch apart and could not see what held the front assembly on.. that is the one that took a dive off of the ladder and the chuck end broke loose.. I put it back together and put a clamp on it to hold the two pieces together,, then out came the JB Weld and I gave it two thin coats.. I can no longer use the tension adjuster, but I seldom used it anyhow.. It is pemanently welded in full torque mode.. I will add a couple more thin coats of JB Weld to make sure it doesn't pop apart.. the two battery packs for that drill both took full charge despite not being used for about 5 years..

both of the battery packs for the Delta are charged also..

I now have 6 working cordless drills..

the first day I can work without mittens on, I will be using them....that day might even be today..

It is not entirely true that hatcheries have inferior chickens.. and not all hatcheries are alike..

Turkeys are very cold hardy.. the main reason I lock mine up is because of preds..

the meat processor just called,, our beef is ready for pick up.. we bought a whole young steer from Brian.. it was a small one.. Now we will be making room in the freezers for the meat.. I guess some of it will end up in Annie's sister's freezer..

I had a couple of comments , but you all know the drill..

Hi everyone. I am new to chickens. I have 7 silkies and had an order of 16 chick that were different breeds from a hatchery that came yesterday. I have been so excited because I have been researching, planning, designing, and building for the past 2 years and finally ordered chick in Dec. They all arrived dead! I am so depressed! I am turned off of hatcheries. I hope I can find good quality close enough to me that I can just drive and get them. I am even thinking about getting into hatching my own by ordering eggs from Wisconsin people. I have heard about animal swaps but I am concerned about diseases. I would love any help or ideas any could give me. I have to add some chicks to my huge coop. I have a 14x24 building with 3 pens. Thank you in advance.
Hello sdelfe,
Sorry your introduction into chickens was horrible. I am sure we can get you all decked out in chicks. What are you looking for? 7 Silkies are a good start. Are they laying? Disease should be everyone's concerns when bringing in new poultry. Use bio security measures and you should be all good. Are you selling? getting eggs? what are your plans?

My daughter wanted blue cochins, partridge cochins, black australorps, and I was looking for blr wyandottes, sl wyandottes, gl wyandottes, and orpingtons. I wanted them for eggs and get some better stock to possibly breed later. I have only 1 silkie laying now. I have 5 ladies and 3 boys. The boys have a pen all to themselves. I have a pen for the smaller breeds and now an empty pen that was for the larger breeds and of course the boys pen too.

Good morning everyone! Since your talkin chickies for sale... I've been trying to find blue laced red wyandottes. Also silver laced. I don't need 15 tho :) something my kiddos could eventually dk in 4h :) I would be willing to do a bit of driving... Brandon area. I plan to go to fdl and bv swaps. But don't think I'll find them easily there...

I am back/still here..

Kim, I cannot say about your table without seeing it.. what you describe does not sound good.. However, If the top is not warped or cracked , maybe you can remove the rest of the wicker so that the missing part is not obvious..

I hope you told your star borders that they will pay for any livestock their dogs destroy.. I hope those St Bernards are outside dogs.. My bil had one.. It sh!t like a cow..

sdelfe, I am North West of Wausau.. and there are a couple more of us not far from you.. Are you right in the city of Mosinee ? my wife works in Mosinee a couple days a week..

there is a place near Mosinee that sells chickens.. I will PM you about that..

I am a couple miles south of Piggly Wiggly. That would be great if someone close had the breeds I am looking for. Thanks Jiminwisc.
