I would help. But I'm outside of the area you want to drive to. I have 57 eggs scheduled to hatch the day before Easter. (Which can mean 2 days before Easter all the way through 2 days after Easter). I'm in Sauk City. Google from you to me and see if you want to make the drive.

Well let me give that some thought. It is a long way but we could make a day of it. What ya got hatching? It would be nice to meet someone from here.

Is there any way to know that young if they really are girls? I can't have roos and I have no idea what I would do with one here in the burbs. I know I'd be better off to have some a little older but dd would just love some teenies.

Hi - I asked some questions about a week ago about getting new chicks. And I decided I am going to pick up 2 chicks to add to my huge existing flock of 2.

I'm wondering if anyone here would have a couple to sell me for pick up Easter weekend? My dd is off the next week and I figure she can enjoy them and keep a watchful eye.

I'd like some teeny ones - she has her heart set on that. I'm near Milwaukee but I'm willing to drive for them - Madison or Janesville area.

everyone,

Had a very nice visit at Vicki's house and meet her hubby too- food was excellent(told my kids about the lunch- my DD hopes we can try and make it

) and it was nice chatting and looking at her chickens. Lots of fluffiness! Brought home 2 new Marans for my group- they are hanging out in our laundry room and of course our Cocker spaniel is all excited- she smells birds!

Also meet flocksalot(Ann) when she came to get her new additions that we brought back from Vicki's this afternoon, those guys will be good travelers!

Of course came home to mild drama- my DS(11) was upset as he had the final "battle of the books" today and his team lost

the kids that wish to partcipate are divided into teams and have been reading books off a list since last fall and then this week the teams competed against each other- they are asked questions about the books from the list and they have to answer. Team with most points wins. Told him as long as he tried his best I was proud of him- also told them we would go to DQ on Friday to celebrate.......

guess I best go get chores done, DH has a fastpitch softball meeting tonight, guess spring must be around the corner!

I need some input from the experts. Have always done meat birds. A lot of my neighbors to get eggs from.

I have been "lucky" that I have not had predator losses. I do have some tree & bush cover for winged predators,
4 legged predators if we were both gone........could be a total loss.

Wondering if there would be any benefit ( alarm & education wise ) to have a few older hens with the broiler chicks.
Not really concerned if they are egg producers. I'm sure they would also provide some entertainment for the family.
Thoughts on how they would get along ( chicks & hens )

guinea fowl hens would be a good choice for predator control and bug control, however no matter your choice ..age difference is always a concern..chicks do not do well with older birds.

looking at the link for swaps and auctions and realizing if I want to go to a swap close to home, I will have to host one in my front yard. Is 15 acres enough room for a decent bird swap? I get to keep everything that gets loose right? I could declare the woods "out of bounds"

My insurance guy is probably wondering why his ears are ringing right now.
