Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Rough couple of days decided to cull my whole flock due to respitory illness that I thought resolved only to realize it was not and continuing to make the sick, sicker! Ugh! Never will bring in older birds or allow anyone on my property where my birds are kept! I'm not set up for that and it's too heart breaking!
Now on to cleaning up so hopefully in a few weeks everything will sanitized and safe for my babies to head out! Any cleaning reccomendations or suggestions?
Soooo SORRY to hear! Wow, that is really rough. I totally agree with everyone about the Oxine but since you will be sanitizing, don't forget to order the Activator Crystals(or just pick up 99% pure food grade citric acid). Read the bottle carefully! This stuff is really great, and unactivated, totally benign but still a great disinfectant, but activated, you have to be careful of the fumes when you use it. This is the stuff all the big dairy, etc. operations use for sterilizing when activated and unactivated they add it right their water systems to keep them clean and "deslimed". I add it to my girls water a couple times a month. It's good for their plumbing too! BTW~ I know it seems expensive but a gallon really does go a very long way. For sanitizing it only takes 3 oz. to a gal. of water (plus activator).

Way too far behind to comment on everyone so I'll just say congrats on all the new chickies everyone, sorry for the losses and I absolutely LOVE all the pics. Too busy lately to get to read much until I am curled up in my chair in the evening with my Kindle and it isn't easy to do any long replies (and can't open 2 windows) on it.

Hope everyone got at least a little of the sunshine today. didn't get warm enough for any real melting up here but the sun was great anyway.

I use Hi-lex bleach to sanitize my small coops. I make it strong, like a cup to a gallon of water. wait a day for it to dry and quit stinking ..

I have a sprayer attachment for my hose that dispenses the solution with the water spray.. So far it seems to work..

there is a disease called Black Head that turkeys can pick up from not only chickens,,, but also from the ground where chickens were raised,, even if it was years ago and you don't even have chickens..

especially young turkeys are prone to catch it.. I keep my young turkeys segregated for at least 13 weeks after they hatch..

well, the good news is,, I got to work on the peacock/turkey/guinea/barred rock pen..
I put in another stiffener on a wall and then got the first roof section up into place all by myself..the dogs watched intently, but made no effort to help..

surprisingly , it went according to the plan I had in my head.. and the section fit perfectly..

I did not take my camera along, but if it does not collapse over night, I will take pictures tomorrow..

I learned something else.. when you are doing work outside that involves a lot of moving around,, a winter coat is way too warm.. there is snow on the ground, but that sun is warm..

I will read up on the citric acid as I use it as a natural preservative in the homemade body products I make! So I have some on hand! Thank you!!! :)

BBP: Remind me again (for the bizzillionth time) what breeds will you be getting in in 2 weeks? I remember the BBS Orps, SF, and EE'rs..but can't remember which others....
I hope I can remember them all:
Blue Wyandottes
Buff Orpingtons
White Laced Red Cornish
Salmon Faverolle
California White
Silver Spangeld Hamburg
Easter Eggers
Cuckoo Marans
And then I got 50 of the rare breed assortment and 50 of the laying assortment! There should be plenty of varieties to choose from. You can play guess the breed of chick with the assortments. Buy one and raise it up to see if you're right. lol!

Bantams:
Mille Fluer d'Uccle
White d'Uccle
Black Mottled d'Uccle
Golden Laced cochin
Belgian Quail
Silver Seabright

Also our Co-op carries Oxine for anyone looking for it. They have stores in Durand, Whitehall, Fall Creek, Baldwin, Milltown . . . can't remember the rest. But if anyone is close to those places you can pick it up and save on a lot of shipping. OH, and TerriO, I forgot about your boots. We carry only mens styles except the womens artic sport. We have the chore, woody max, woody elite, tack classic, muckmaster, jobber, fieldblazer and I think that's it.

Jj maybe you should take yoga or something ;-) learn new positions! Lol how are the new baby chicks? Hubby is getting some slw end of april.
Yoga? sounds like alot of work accomplish something I can do laying flat in bed.

chicks are great

I am always amazed at the way chickens have personalities at 6 days old.

and the size difference with quail.
