Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Dh was asking me a question and I don't know the answer....right now we have a little standing water that is slowly going away in part of the coop. He asked if we should rototill the coop floor of dirt and dig some out and fill with sand that would drain better and allow dust baths etc...what are your thoughts on that?

Is it just filling with water because the ground is still frozen and the water has nowhere else to go?
That is probably most of it.,it is,a little it of a low spot, but we only have major issues if there is a lot of rain,or snow melt.
Wy is tilling bad. Thought it might mix up some of the poop layer that does not get scraped off...

So sounds like one corner for sand but leave the rest...

Robin... Night lights?! Heat lamps for under 45 degrees?! SPOILED! And you gave me crap for an air conditioner for temps over 100...

At least I know my Stella and Hershey aren't suffering unduly...

Chilly Sunny Day To Everyone. Whole 36 for a high today. Hard to believe that we haven't been able to go a single day since last fall without a fire going....dang it's about time to give the wood pile a rest!

How are you liking that new Ford Vickie? Plenty of toys on those new Fords, eh! We love the new supercrew...nice to put the groceries in the backseat.

Sorry about your special kitty CC. Thanks for the kind words...your the bestest with all your helpful knowledge that your willing to share.

Yep, voted first thing after chores. Never miss going to the polls. I wish i had more than one vote though.

Had a big coon by one of the pens yesterday...poked him with a stick and gave him the option of my two friends S&W or run for the hills...he ran for the hills. Slid my buddy back in the holster. The coon was dead by the road when we went to vote today. Must of been hit by a car. Bald Eagle in the tree giving him the eye...when we returned later the coon was gone. Circle of life I guess.

Keep them hatching. bigz

Denise...my lav orp has some lemon lacing on his neck add well.and I believe the darkening its pottery normal on tail and around neck .

I'm getting chicks Friday or Saturday and can't wait...trying to stick to 3 and need to decide between a cuckoo maran and buff Orpington...any opinions? Getting a blue Cochin and another EEr for sure.

Moved my 8 chicks from the house to the garage tonight. They should be ok I hope... They are almost all feathered and its 50 degrees or so in there. Glad I'm not the only one with this kind of dilemma! :)

I thought it was really great if you are just moving the chicks into the coop by themselves, but I need to know about adding them into an existing flock. Don't pipe down- I need all the help I can get

Her idea about the kennel within the coop was for introducing chicks to an existing flock. Never put chicks in with adult birds that they've never seen before because the adults will go after them. I keep mine separated by a fence for about a month, or at least until the chicks are almost the same size as the adults so they can defend themselves or run away. The adults will want to enforce the pecking order.

Who's cranky, Mel?
