Vicki, did your friend dip each of the chicks beaks in water as soon as she got them? That is a critical mistake alot of newbies make. Sorry to hear about all the losses.

Judge, the foot problem with your chick is totally fixable. Just make little shoes like Delisha posted. It should correct itself in no time.

No difference in care. My friend Julie picked up 3 ducks from there about 3 weeks ago, thinking they were Runners (they were labeled as such.) Nope. Definitely Pekins. Can you post a pic of yours?

Pekins taste so much better than runners. But runners are funnier. Pekings can be bad setters, but the eggs are great to bake with.
I hope you don't keep those ducks in the house..they are 100x messier than chickens.

Pekins are dabblers. They like to make holes full of mud and play with it. I ate my pekings and just kept the Muscovys..now there is some good eating, and so quiet. I love my scoveys.

Yes, post the ugly chick pic!!!

Speaking of ugly chicks....this one came in my "mixed bag o' chicks"...the one in the center, I don't think it's a chicken...or it's "some other kinda chicken" . It's tiny...tinier then all the others by about 2/3. It's also very "torpedo-y" shaped....and fast...holy cripes is it fast. It's neck feathers are more like a collar....on the long side. Any guesses as to what it is?

The mystery chick is feathering out like a Quail. Looks like he is wearing a cloak of too big feathers
