Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm missing 3 call ducks and my mallard hen. The mallard layed her first egg today. How frustrating! I hate having to leave my birds locked up. I didn't let them out until I got home from work around 2 today. Most of my chickens were out too. That mallard better not have led those other ducks off. I just can't imagine the ducks getting taken when they can fly. Unless it was an owl or something. Ugggggg . . .

Newest additions to my chicken addiction! Black and buff Ameraucana,Marans, Cochins and spitzhauben! So fuzzzzzzy! <3
Cute chicks
Evening To Everyone...Congrats on your new brother. I like Brent for a first name...maybe run that past mom and dad!

Nice to hear Dave is doing good. Thanks for the update Jim. i was wondering how he has been doing. Thought he was hooked on dels....hope he makes the bash too!

Yep, I'll make a few batches of jerkey for the bash bigfam. That reminds me to check the label for TO'S food alergys.

We were slammed last night with 4 inches of the heavy wet stuff. Good thing I waited to put up the turkey blind. It woulda been flat as a pancake with the heavy snow.

Nice to have abreak in the weather today. Made a road trip to Antigo to my daughters house. I gave her a nice table I had in the garage. I need the room for the new truck, and she needed a table. Another win win deal for both of us.

Nice pic CC....love the in a row peeps.

My woodpile keeps getting smaller and smaller....and it's april 10th....poor robins lookin for worms...

Good evening. THis week has been early nights for the kids so far. Of course tomorrow is dog class ans they are here until 11:30. The kids want to go and do trivia in Fort so I will have to ask Judi again....guess she is paying me back for taking care of her cats all these years! LOL!

I decided to post a one last chance for duck and goose eggs on CL. I want to let them start to sit by the end of April. I figure the eggs might not freeze by then. But I guess ya never know in this crazy state!

I need to lock up yet; and I really should break in my new mop...thinking about just going to bed! I hope there arent any T-storms tonight...
Man you guys are accusing me of smokin' and now someone posted "on the bottle?" What are you thinkin'???? Here I sit...lil ole teetotaler that I am....

Guess I better get on outside...before that skunk eats all my chickens!

(PS) Colton that is half the size of my babies! I cant imagine one that small! Glad he is doing well...whatever his name is! I think you should say all the names of the siblings and we can suggest a few! That might be fun....besides, your parents might be running out of boys names by now! LOL!

This is the master list of eggs coming. JJ wants some chicks I believe.

Lemon Cuckoo Orps
Heritage RIR
Coronation Sussex
Lav Orps
Olive Eggers (f1 and f2)
Salmon Faverolles
Chocolate Orps (some LF even)
A hens choice package (LF)

These are all 6-8 eggs batches, except for the RIR as a dz.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more chicks for me Please.

I have chicks in the dining room in 2 places, chicks in the garage, and chicks at the children's museum.

5/7 Quail hatched yesterday. The other 2 were not fertile.

Nobody has anything to say about white Marans? Do I have the rarest chicks in the whole state?

Colton - You only need one more sibling to be a baseball team. Unlike way way way back in Jim's era, now they let the girls play too. Ask your mom, She will be glad to tell ya that girls can do anything boys can do, and some things they can't

I was inspired to make a chicken tractor this weekend while visiting one of my friends out here in the country this weekend. I pulled into his driveway and in his lawn was the dome off the top of the Beloit college observatory. Of course my first thought was trying to imagine how many chickens could be housed in this great alluminum, sliding doored dome. No such luck. He is storing it for the college until they need it elsewhere. He is a retired physics professor from there. And has chickens he spoils.

anyway I bought pvc pipe and fittings to make my own dome today. only about 20 bucks so far. still need to figure a way to make a door.

Oh man JJ--I surely cant wait to see this dome!
Box CC...what kind of box are you talkin' about girl? Be prepared...your long awaited visitor will be arriving on Friday...I was going to have it be a surprise but...that is grossly overrated! How many chicken, duck, goose, quail or guinea eggs will you be wanting? OK OK---I will bring them all for your hatching pleasure...perhaps a goat or two for good measure? I am sure glad that DH finally fixed the flat on my truck...I am guessing that I will be needing it! LOL!

Sooooo- they are saying we are in and ice storm warning and power outages are likely. What do I do about my 5day old and 7day old duckling and chicks? And what about the incubator? If the power goes out that also means that I have no water.....Getting pretty nervous

I've had the lights go out for several hours and my eggs still hatched out. Can't remember what day they were on though. If you are really worried you may want to increase the temp in your house now assuming the lights will go out. This will buy you some time til they go back on. Get some nice heavy blankets and put over the bators and whatever you do, don't open them.
I would have a small box to put them in so they get warmth from each other.
Might be a good day to do some baking so the oven is on all day so if it would be out for a long time you could always put their box in the oven (of course after it has cooled down but still warmer then the rest of the house.
Hope all of that makes sense. I just took my ambien sleeping pill and it's starting to kick in. Time to go raid the fridge !!! LOL
