Angie....When I put up my flight netting I used cup hooks and screwed them in where I needed then kinda looped the netting around the hooks. If it dose come off you can just hook it back in place. This year I want to look for netting with larger holes so it doesn't catch as much snow.

cind..good idea..i was also thinking of strips of wood trim to hold in place. bigger holes in nets also a good idea.

Ah yes, I swear those rabbits and chickens conspire behind my back to cause chaos and mayhem, and then probably spend the entire night laughing about it, and me.

cs, sorry to hear the chicks are being deviants.

They were so sweet until I put them in that box on Friday morning before you got here. I just thought it was them being freaked out by the change in accommodations and not being able to see everything around them (like they could in the brooder). Keep handling them every day. They should calm down. They are very sweet as adults. One of my hens jumped into my lap today, with her lovely muddy feet. At least I hope it was mud.............

Ang, sorry about the snow & your run cover. Is it for keeping hawks out? I think Jim & someone else mentioned using strips of line, string or wire across the top to keep birds out of pools in FL? He said they think it is a fence & stay away? Has anyone ever tried that on here? Cindy's idea sounds like a good one.

Apologies to all the northerners, but it was a gloriously beautiful day out today.

Still very squishy ground, but the sun was out & it was actually warm!

Back to reality tomorrow with more cold & rain, but the chickens & I had some quality time today. It was so nice! Hopefully the weathermen will be right about 60s for most of the state by the weekend.

A friend of mine uses the lines of wire across his run. He tells me the birds think they can't get through it and they don't even try. He's as close to the river as I am and there are a lot of bald eagles, golden eagles and hawks that circle around. So far I've been OK without anything - the chickens like foraging under the bushes and around the trees so they aren't so easy to spot. (I was surprised none of them scooped up the fish in my pond last summer. Some of the young eagles liked to fly right over them.

Keep that white stuff up there in the north! I can't wait for all these dirty little piles of snow to vanish completely!! Looking forward to the weekend!!

Wow, five minutes ago I just filled the bowl for the chicks. (A little bean bowl) and I went down to check on them and they were dust bathing in the food. About four of them in a tiny bowl, don't know how they all got in there. The food was all over the floor, but they seem happy to scratch the feed on the ground more so than when it was in the feeder.

I doubt that anything looks adorable bathing in a BOWEL!!

(We have a local restaurant whose menu lists "Taco Salad in a homemade bread bowel". I keep threatening to send it to Leno!)
