Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Question...the injured foot...leave it because it will heal or soak it. Either way I'll keep an eye on it as it is vulnerable and open to a potential infection. I'm leaning toward do nothing but look at it in a few days as a precautionary measure. Guess I'm not much of a worry-er eh?

To help protect against infection, I would lightly spray with Blue-kote. Try to be careful the chick doesn't breathe it in when spraying.

Hi All!

kjgood.... I know what you mean about grains.... I always thought it was weird that, according to the food pyramid I grew up with, that grains were suppose to be such a big part. People can not digest any grains unless they are processed in some way, like cooking. I think the reason we became so dependent on them is because they can be stored for a long time and we've learned to do many, tasty things with them. Meat is best digested raw, but we have to cook the h3ll out of most of it now days because not only are our animals contaminated, but by the time it gets to us it's not a fresh kill anymore and has been who knows where and handled by who knows who! Fruits and veggies should be the bulk of our diet, fallowed by very fresh meats, fish and dairy. Then Grains. That said..... I eat like most of you, and with my teeth the way they are... bread and pasta is easy to eat. There is very, very little I won't eat. Hardly anything I won't try, and I love brussel sprouts!!! Yummy Balls!

BigZ... I sure hope you got the legs for them daisy dukes!

Bl4...sorry about your DD, at least it was only a toe and not a leg!

Delish... I do have a splash and a black Cochin hens... one of them was this ones mother and daddy was one of the Ameraucanas. She had a big fluffy butt, feathered feet and a little muff. Not quite as big as mom.... but very pretty.

I didn't open her up yet, tonight was one of those nights that little things kept building up! Anything besides worms or obstructions I should look for?

CS... It's scary when those little ones try out their wings. I lost one last year that I think flew into frame of the screen door and broke her neck. They haven't quite learned how to maneuver yet.

Looks like we get a week of decent temps this week with only some rain, however looks like next Fri. the temp is going to drop some again!

Sure, that's the weekend Storky's eggs should be hatching!

Guess that's it..... Night all!

When you do..open her..look for any pools of fluids. For example..if it is blood pool by the heart it might have been a heart attack. Yellow fluid filling the body cavity is a sign of Ascites or Peritonitis. You might look for inflamed organs or enlarged organs. Off color intestines. Take pictures..

Sheesh..spit on it and drag it threw the dirt..

Good Morning everyone ! Boy I'm glad to finally get some nice temps. I went to some garage sales yestarday :) I also booted my older ducklings out to the coop. I am pleasantly surprised at how the chickens are leaving the ducklings alone. I thought there would be issues but nothing yet and its been 3 days now. I took the chicks out yestarday but only for a couple hours, and boy the adult chickens were surrounding the pen I had them in making all kinds of noises. So its day 30 for the duck eggs and nothing has hatched. I have no clue what happened. 12 out of 13 were fertile with good veins when I candled on day 18, when I went into lock down 3 quit so I still had 9 with veins. The temp as stayed consistant and as well as the humidity. I had 1 start to pip, well it made a partial pip (It make a crack but not a hole) a couple days ago. Do you guys think its about time to pop a hole in end to see what happened with these eggs ?

Oh as for the veg talk, I love Brussels sprouts :) I also have a rule in my house, what I make is what we eat period. I do not cater to picky eaters. Every meal consists of meat and 2 side. 1 side is always a veg sometimes both sides are. My DH and kids eat everything I cook and alwasy try new things. I make 2 new dishes every week and have been doing it for the last 7 years. I love to cook and find new recipes. Luckily my kids have never had issues with eating veggies and fruits :) Heck one dish they beg for every week is roasted green beans and cherry tomatoes sprinkled with EVOO and kosher salt :) I also always have a large bowl of fruit on my counter at all times, the just grab a fruit and go. I only buy chips and snacky stuff maybe once a month if that. We drink mostly tap water. Also I have been fighting PCOS for 10 years and recently diagnosed with insulin resistance. So yeah I understand the struggle to loose weight with no outcome. Since being put on meds to control the insulin resistance I've lost 35 pounds since the 1st of the year. But I've also been working out alot and counting calories as well.

I LOVE beets! Mushrooms too. But DH thinks they taste "like dirt".

He will eat them when I make them, though. Good thing, cuz I throw mushrooms in darn near everything. Yum!
I was the pickiest darn eater when I was a kid. Now I'll eat darn near anything I'm not allergic to. I'm still working on getting some of you to try one of my favs. Yeah Terri, you know what I'm gonna say. You warn everyone about it. Yup. Here it comes. Head cheese!

Here we go again!
