Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cute! I just love everyone's pictures! Thanks for sharing them!

Also - I found that bash thread and left some comments. Sounds like a crap-ton o'fun! I'll have to talk to my hubby-bubby and see what we can swing. I won't be able to come Fri-Sun. I'd have to take the day off work on Fri, as I work 2nd shift, and I'm almost out of vacation days and still need to make a dentist appt to get my wisdom teeth yanked. So I'll end up using another vaca day for that. So I'd rather save the rest of it for in case of an emergency or if I get sick and need a day off or something. I could totally come up Sat. late morning or early afternoon and hang the weekend. We'd have to have someone here to watch the dogs and rest of the animals, though. So IDK if it'll be me & hubby and leave kids at home (they're in high school, they can handle themselves), or me & kids and leave hubby home, or just me alone. I do have a HUGE 3-room tent in very good condition if anyone wants to camp but doesn't want to have to run out and buy a tent. I'm willing to share. It can easily sleep 12 or more if you pack it in.
come when you can,, stay as long as you like.. food is always available.. help yourself.. God knows, TerriO won't help you.. found that out first hand, first 5 minutes of the first day..

I was just out surveying my dirt pile.. whoops !!!! it's gone !!!!!!!! the farmer must have come by early this AM and chisel plowed the field.. leveling and spreading my dirt pile in the process..

Oh well, now all the soil is nice and loose, ..it will take only a few minutes to scrape up a new pile..

Wow, everyone is so busy... and such wonderful pics! LMiller, I love your coop, so wish I was in a position to have one! Since I was last here I quit my job and have started a new job hunt, I'm too da*n old for 10 hour shifts coupled with an hour drive a day. Did manage to get some flowers moved around the yard over the weekend and realized how out of shape I am after the long winter!!

Our plans have changed yet again and with SO there is no telling that by tonight there won't be a different plan! We're not keeping the house, we've decided to move a little further north, find something with at least 10 acres (YAY!!!!) where I can have my big garden, orchard and CRITTERS! FINALLY!!!! The compromise is we buy a travel trailer and go west from November thru mid January... which leaves me wondering just how likely it is that I'll actually have any critters... what the heck would I do with them for 2 1/2 months? 'sigh', it's always something, isn't it?

Well, off I go, for my first perm in ... 15 years or so... gotta make myself perty for them job interviews! Enjoy what I hope is another nice day in a long string of nice days!!

Deb

Jim....... I hear what your sayin about your looks......I have the same problem......Easy to see when you look at our avitars.....We could be twins..............LOL
>>>>The last hatch % went up about 20% w/ your advice to my DD's....THANKS
>>>> I now know what you mean about Duct tape and styro bators....My good friend just bought a Little Giant ....there is a 1/8 inch gap on two sides when
you close the lid....JUNK...he thinks it will be good air flow ................What is you opinion? ................( It is a still air)

Thanks

Whew...what a day it has been already! My friend called me at SIX FORTY FIVE this AM!!!!! I was asleep on the trampoline, the stars were gorgeous last night! So I went to her place and we caught up 2 peahens...one for CC's sister and one for a guy DH works with. On the way home I found the cutest terrier dog dragging a leash. Lots of phone calls...then the owner called. TUrns out the dog jumped out of the car window! So she was so happy I had him and came out to pick him up. Very nice woman and we talked chicken for a really LONG time! (cause I dont really know how to make a short conversation!) She was very confused about why there werent wild chickens and about egg fertilization...set her straight and sent her home with "real" eggs. Hopefully she will be a new customer!
Great picks everyone! I love the bog dogs when they are puppies! So adorable. That little yellow chick sure is a cutie too.
DKV--I guess you are just going to have to hire a house sitter for those months! Or only have a few birds that you can take along on your travels!
OK--I forgot I still have water running and the kiddoes will be here shortly...guess I better get my butt outside!
TerriO

(PS) Jim....I dont wait on ANYONE! Just ask DH!

Apyl...it is a cute little white chick! not sure what it is though. Sounds like a good hatch JJ! Love seeing the dogs Jim. How big puppy has grown!
Cindy...thanks for confirming my initial thoughts with the broody... didnt think she would take an older chick, but thought it was worth a shot.
Trying to come up with a neat gift for the kids "graduation" from Kindergarten this year. They make a big deal of it so I think that is fun and wanted to do the same. Trying to talk DH into another pet type animal for the kids. Was thinking a lizard or box turtle or something like that. I am more familiar with the furry pets from my childhood, but Packer puppy loves to chase rodents outside and hunts chipmunks and moles so hamsters may not be the best pet. MIght have to suffice with a fish for now. we will see.

so excited for summer. Now that I know I will be unemployed... I can plan...and our local moms group is setting up an every thursday event... so I need to come up with an exciting thing to do. I am thinking maybe terreriums or something like that. Someone is doimg a recycled product derby, someone else is making toad/fairy houses outside, there is a tie die day. Last year I did popsicle making and pet a chicken day...

would rather host, kids weed my garden or clean my house day, but dont think that is going to happen. Then we have swim lessons and coach pitch softball. Need to find time to work in my gardens. Told Dh to be reasonable and instead of taking the kids to buy me jewelry that I will not wear much, to buy me annuals for all my pots outside. Hope he listened. Or the new rainbarrel that is going up for the chicken coop garden!

Anyway, that is my plan. Oh and as I am getting ready to put my motion camera out to see who is slacking, they start laying pretty good. No I have a bunch of babies we want to keep so I need to weed some more out. 2 more are going to my friends coop this weekend after it is built so we will be down to 7 teenagers. 2 polish sex unknown(hoping for a roo and a pullet) and that white rock from Deli that has the thickest tree trunk legs I have ever seen but she is certain( and I swing back and forth daily) that is a girl. lol. otherwise we are keeping the bad colored BCM who is sweet, the Olive egger(fingers crossed they are olive), the EE and the silkie.

anyway..babling enough better get some stuff done! later

Good luck on the job interviews, Deb! Post pics of your new hairdo! :D

Terri - What are you holding in your left hand in your picture?

Kris - Hey! Ima cute lil' white chick, too! ;P

OK, correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that if you breed a chix that lays dk brown eggs (welsummer, marans) to something that lays a blue or egg (amerecauna) that's how you get the olive eggers. Is this true? Cuz I have 2 amerecaunas w/green legs and 1 amerecauna/buff cochin mix (yellow legs) but IDK if they're boys or girls. I've been looking for marans so I guess that'd work out well.

Also, I heard if you breed gold laced polish to mottled houdans that's how you get the tolbunts. Zat true??

At any rate, here's what I'm looking for. If you're w/in 2-3 hrs from WI Dells then LMK otherwise I can wait until we meet up at the shindig.
Cochins: standard
1 black pullet for sure. Other colors welcome. I've heard if you breed white and blue or black you can get splash? Can you get red splash? Wait, do cochins come in red? Or just buff? Maybe I'll just get 1 white roo and then 4-5 hens in various colors. Frizzle ok, hard to find colors move to the front of the line. Can anyone help me out?
bantam:
I have 2 bantam cochins right now. 1 white that's flying at everyone and chest bumping them, is bigger than the other one by more than double the size even tho they're VERY close to the same age, and it's comb in coming in. I'm thinking it's a roo, but girls get combs, too, so IDK. The other one is a tiny little black frizzle. I may consider a couple more bantam cochins, and am really loving the look of the frizzles and if my white is a smooth, then there you go.

Siapan Jungle Fowl:
I'd be intersted in a breeding pair or trio.

O-Shamo:
Trio. I love the look of the black, so I want 1 black for sure no matter what. Will consider other colors.

Naked Necks: standard size only
I'm looking for 1 or maybe 2 roosters just in case something were to happen (knock on wood). Must be different colors, strongly prefer 1 male to be black and the other I don't care. Looking for a few pullets in a variety of colors, rare colors move to the front of the line. I may be ok w/it if they're not purebreds, but please be upfront and honest with me about it. May consider frizzle and I prefer them to have a bowtie but if not that's not a deal breaker.

Sussex:
Looking for speckled and light ONLY.

Mille Fleur D'Uccle:
2 pullets

Gallo Kelso:
Willing to entertain a variety of colors.

I also have 1 lonely black silkie. May consider a couple other silkies and/or show girls and/or 'sizzles' to go along with it. IDK if it's a boy or girl, though. So I'd be open to 1-2 roos and a small few pullets.

Geese:
Breeding pr of Sebastopol, breeding pr of chineese

Turkey:
breeding pr of IDK what I want. Something unique looking like the Royal Palm?

Ducks:
Buff for sure. I also like Anconas or other magpies, and maybe Cayugas as long as they're true and have the green in them. Not a dull black barnyard mix.

Like I've said before, all these little chicks are great, but if anyone is willing to sell me some adults I'd appreciate it a lot. I don't have a baseline over here, I've only had baby chicks for 2+ weeks now and have no adults AT ALL. So I'd love to start getting some eggs right away! :)

I am waiting for the potatoes to cook, so I will show you the results of my latest project,, IF I can get these pictures to print.. been very slow lately, and sometimes nonexistent ..

25 feet long, 6 feet wide..6 feet tall.. I will be putting about 15 guineas in here..

the tee with the scrap piece laying to the right of it..
and the cut tee attached to the 1 inch pvc pipe..

this is how the tee fits against the top rail of the dog pen panel..
the twisted wire is to keep the two sides from spreading and holds the arch in the pipes..

for a better close up view, click on the picture..

potatoes are finished,, and I am hungry..
