Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh yeah, I forgot.

Is there anyone that lives between Duluth and Ashland????

I wanted to get that Hamburg Roo to the bash. She is coming from MN to Ashland this weekend. Is there anyone near that is coming to the bash or could get him to someone that is coming? I really appreciate it!

Good Cloudy Morning! Dave you worry too much, they'll be fine. Sticking with the slw's eh?

Dr. Ha Ha, Great to see you back. Yes I do worry way too much.

Yes sticking with the slw. They are really pretty birds. One day I will get Columbian wyandottes. I handled these more so hopefully they will be not as skiddish. It appears the ladies stayed inside the coop all day. I put out some seed in the covered run and it was untoched. Not sure if they are afraid of going outside or it was just nice and toasty in the coop. Gonna get colder this weekend. At 5:00 this morning the girls were sleeping together but not touching so I think they were warm enough. Hopefully with the rain my uncovered run will start sprouting so the girls have some greenery before they kill it all. I am going to divide the run in 2 so I can rotate where they are and hopefully save the vegatiation

Stay warm everyone

David

The Silver Laced Wyandottes arrived! This mess was made after they were here for 15 minutes. They love that fermented feed. I had to make shoes for one of the chicks. Curled toes.

great looking chicks that reminded me of a question I had when I bought the 2 slw chicks at the feed store. I see you have maybe a couple tans in the group. I assume they all feather out to be black and white. Does anyone ever band them and keep track of any coralation between chick color and how well the silver lacing comes out?
I picked a grey and a black chick but did not leg band them. Now one I can see is going to be beautifully laced and the other is already a mess patternwise.

I wanted the tan one they had but someone beat me to it.

I think the undertone color is part of its foundation. I think the lighter tan ones might have less clean white. I am not positive. White usually looks better and cleaner with a silver base. I guess I will find out. I have never had SLW and I decided last year at a show that I wanted them. They were Dicks birds and they were huge! The males had smudging on the shoulders, but the pullets were clean as a whistle. I think the tan ones here are fatter and bigger than the silver colors. Time will tell what they are going to look like. Cuties is coming tomorrow to pick hers out. I am letting her have first pick. She has been waiting a very long time.

Rainy Day To Everyone....sounds like we will be in the chill for a few days.

Nothing new here. I was a bout to move some small trees when the rain started. So prolly tomorrow if the wind isn't real nasty.

We usually butcher the extra roo's anytime after 18 to 24 weeks or so. I always have LF so they are usually large enough by then.

I figured the crappies should be biting good right now. Hope I can get after some white bass. The boat trailer needs new tires first..another $100 prolly with the rims. The present ones are really old and flat.. LOL!

Have Fun... bigz

Del-what time is she coming out? I took tomorrow off and will be out in the Kenosha area around 9 to stop in at the docs office. I won't have too much time, but could stop by a sec to say hi!

Otherwise, I forget who asked about tagging, but I just recently started tagging to identify my birds as they grew. For me, the primary purpose was not to track color because I'm not breeding, but it would serve those of you that do breed very well. I use it to track breeder/person that I got the chicks from and each individual bird from each person. For instance, all of the black orps that I got from Deli have a yellow tag on their left leg and then on their right leg the 3 birds have either a green, red, or black tag. The wyandottes and ameraucanas (5 total) only have tags on their right legs (red, green, black, yellow, and clear) which indicates that I received them via Deli, but from an outside breeder. My lav orps are not tagged as I think I have 4 roos out of 6 birds and there is no need to tag them unless I identify health issues because I'll be selling/trading/culling them. The lav pullets, once identified, will get a tags on their left leg. Left indicating they are from CC.

We are still progressing toward purchasing our house. We sent in our mortgage application, have received the land survey, expect to have the septic inspected early next week, and hopefully hear when our appraisal will be. Additionally, my dad put his house on the market, as he is moving in with us, and has a binding contract already. They are now going through the same process as we are-getting approvals, appraisals, etc. We are hoping to close by the end of this month and my dad hopes to close mid-July.

My mom is coming up for Mother's Day and both DD's made her favorite cookies (Oatmeal-Coconut Chocolate Chip). She called me today to ask about what clothes to bring, but also informed me that one of my second cousins died of an apparent alcohol or drug overdose. He was just finishing up college and celebrating the end of the semester. They do not know how he died and requested and autopsy. I didn't know him very well, so I'm not directly effected, but I am saddened by the impact it has on his family.

On a lighter note, we will be squeezing all 3 soccer games (which normally occur over 2 days) into this Saturday. We have one at 11am, 2:45 and 4:30pm. I hope that it stays nice and we don't have to cancel as our whole region has games scheduled for Saturday to avoid games on Mother's Day. It would be a drag to reschedule all of those!

Big news on the work front.....a student had an allergic reaction, I found out for her specific situation that we have no protocol to handle it and I took it all the way up to the president. All of the people that should have developed protocol but didn't have been identified and corrections are underway. The president sent a very nice letter back to me, thanking me for revealing this situation to him because no one else had informed him (what?), he was pleased that I bothered to step out and address this, thanked me for pushing the front, and commended me on how I handled the emergency! Wouldn't it be nice if this story ended with a raise or promotion?

Ok, I'm gonna snag a cookie and get some milk. BBL...maybe.
