Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Casie I wish I could take some of those birds off your hands....

you have a few breeds I would love to have. Maybe I can sweet talk my in-laws into some.....

Did some yard work and now I am sunburned. At least I managed to get the rhubarb weeded and mulched, and I got the border for the backyard garden in the ground. Now I need to get my plants planted...... I need to start my dill too..... at least all of the squashes have come up, and the watermelon has decided to make an appearance!

Maybe I will get that soap made yet today before I head out to kickboxing......

Went out to do night chores in the barn for my FIL, and I saw my BSL laying outside the fence. I didn't think much of it because some of the others hadn't gone to roost yet, but when I was walking back up from the barn she was still laying there. I carried her back inside the fence and put her on one of the roosts in the coop. WOnder if she does that every night? Anyone else have that?
Duckie people- how much shelter do they need? They have taken to sleeping under the bulk tank outside the milkhouse. It is surrounded by the barn wall on the north side and the milkhouse wall on the east side. Then obviously the bulk tank is above them. If they aren't gonna sleep in their coop, I'm going to use it for the chicks that are still on the porch.

Evening To All...sorry to hear that you are quitting chickens Casie. Best of luck to you and hope you can stop by and say hi once in awhile. it's always sad to see someone give up something that I really enjoy and will be doing prolly forever. However long that is?

I hear you on the going fishing Jim...but if we went fishing all the time then we would prolly wish we had some chickens to care for...I don't know the answer to true happiness I guess.

Really rained here today. I think the lawn will need baled by the time I get to it.

Long day today...trip to Shawano this morning, and then down to Appleton this aft...traffic to the south is nasty like always.

Casie has a brinsea in her add CC!

Have fun...bigz

Its just craziness around here lately with these chickens. Today I checked under my broody and found a chick with a twisted leg, its foot was completely upside down. I can only think it was a result of a nutrient deficiency. It was a mutt chick, so no inbreeding and hen hatched so I can't imagine a temp issue causing it. I think I'm going to switch back to organic, soy free feed. They are on Home Grown (Land O' Lakes) and Purina feeds right now. Or I, may get Kent multi flock again. I have splinted the leg and put vet wrap around its whole body to hold it in place. But I imagine it is very painful and it obviously can't walk so I will need to feed and water it. I may have to put it down. Its a really cool chocolatey color too.

I was wondering why I was so tired...past my bedtime for sure! I need to go out and lock up but wanted to post before I forgot it all! Jim I didnt read a post about how the vet visit went...so they found "nothing" huh? I agree with whomever said it...find another vet! I hope she is feeling better soon.
Good info on sheep and goats Stacy. I have to get some of that goat salt. THye go to town on the mineral block I got them but I have read that you should have the loose salt too.
So what was the verdict on the trial? I couldnt find any info on it...but I must confess I didnt try all that hard! LOL!
Sorry also to hear you are abandoning the chicken hobby Cassie! Is it forever do you think? Nice looking birds for sale there.

OK--I hear DHs motorcycle--they must be back from the softball game. I better head out and lock up my critters before I fall fast asleep!

TO, http://host.madison.com/ct/news/loc...cle_b91efd42-c22d-11e2-923b-0019bb2963f4.html I think the writer needs to stop putting her own personal twist on the facts at hand.

I was at kickboxing again.... I think it is working. I do not get so sore anymore the next day..... I am going to try and get up early enough tomorrow to get a good walk/run in....... try try try..... but sleeping sounds really good too.....

Plunked my tomatoes in the ground this afternoon, and managed to find a place for the strawberry plants. I have an idea where everything is going to go, I just have to get it there.....

Anyway, time for bed. Another day at the rat race tomorrow!

good late eve,

every time we plugged in a saw or a drill, it would start to rain.. despite that, we finished the first half of the foundation.. bro cannot come tomorrow,, no matter,, it looks like rain.. I will have time to cut some lumber and posts for Thursday..

had a short visit with Zeke today.. you ladies will love him.. even if he is a chauvinist .

Casie, I can understand your decision.. remember, you don't have to have chickens to stay with this crazy chicken group.. you can be just plain ole ordinary crazy..

Dan, do you think I can go heavy on half rotted wood chips tilled into my soil in the green house for a planting medium ? Or, will that rob me of too much nitrogen ? I have a good amount of chicken compost that I can add, also..

I am tired tonight,, think I will turn in early..

.......jimsayinggoodnite........
