Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

It's not the Pirate trick. It's The " Pirate's Code" think captain Jack Sparrow

"Those who fall behind get left behind"

My kids know the pirate's code well.

Awwwwww, cute fuzzy butts! Who else did he get eggs from? It kinda looks like he has a few Doms or barred rocks? Thanks for posting the pics!

Good morning...wish it would stop raining. Roads around us are flooding out...rberry...you ok...your rd is in a valley....
My poor chickens run is getting swampy....need to get a board to go over the muddy mess.
Gotta run and make breakfast for my kids...interview tomorrow so we will see how that goes.,enjoying my time with these kiddos though!
Hey there kristip - yup my end of the road is good anyway, I didn't run into water over the road until I hit PB just past the clinic. This has been incredible - I hope your run dries out soon and good luck with the interview . . . best case would be they want you but won't be ready for you to start until the end of August (like that happens).

This is just my opinion..

I use all flock chick starter for all my fermentation. Everyone gets the same thing. I do not buy layer at all...ever. I save my money and give free choice grit and oysters. I offer fresh herbs instead of the additional additives in layer feed. Layer feed is hard on male birds and ducks. Layer feed is manufactured for an all in and all out operation. One year on layer will not hurt anyone. It is the build up that can be destructive. I keep may males for more than one year and I do not want fertility issues. I never have and hope I never will. It can give kidney issues and decrease fertility. Everyone can eat chick starter with out any side effects or health issues.
Some pellets have glue added to bind them. It is not a good reactor in fermentation. If your pellets are glue free, they are great to use in FF. You can also ferment scratch grains.

I would have loved to company to drive with!
I am available Friday. Saturday I am selling ducks at the fair.
They were for me too..I wish you could have made it. You were missed but I got to visit with you, everyone was jealous, especially ..you know who...

I did not tell her since she was a bit..umm jealous already.
vickiw and delisha: appreciated this discussion of ff. Delisha when my chicks hatched you suggested adding water to the chick starter for chicks and mama, thanks they love it! So I decided to wet down the layers organic pellets. We get their feed from a local shop (comes from the Westby area). The big girls also love it. I can't find the post where you suggested this, so forgive me if you have already addressed this next question. I mix a small amount of chick starter every couple of days and a batch of the layers pellets about one week, but haven't added any ACV to this since it seems to be fermenting on its own, do I have to add ACV or something like yogurt to qualify this as ff and have the added benefit of the fermentation? Hope that made sense

Update:

The hen is doing great. She ate a bunch of corn, pasta noodles, yogurt, and she also drank a lot of water. Doing amazing. So happy
Very happy for you Colton - great job

Tested positive for MG waiting for other viral and nerve tests which should be done Friday.
Ughs!

:hugs

DELISHA - I'm doing LAB fermentation so no ACV for me. Read my feed ingredients label and the fun thing I noticed is that there are four different types of dehydrated fermentation products listed, the first being " lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product dehydrated". No wonder it's already starting to blow bubbles!!!

Another question for you. How many days ahead of feed do you have cooking in your bucket? Instructions I read on a natural chicken keeping site said to add back whatever you take out each time and stir it in.

LAB that was the other ff additive I was trying to remember when I referenced yogurt. Vickiw, I think I'm using the same brand chick starter and will have to read over the ingredients again that would explain why it's fermenting so nicely with just water. I have seen it too where instructions are to keep adding to the bucket like you would sour dough starter. I've also seen where people use a strainer to collect the days feed. My feed is like gruel, it would take forever to strain it IDK

well I fooled Mother Nature today.. this morning I replanted my beans and corn, and then right ahead and planted the rest of the seeds , carrots, beets, lettuce .. so in case it rains, I would be ready.. well, It did not rain,, so I decided to do the alternate plan.. got my scaffold up, clamps ready and clamped in the first purlin.. never even ran the first screw in.. I started to rain,HARD ..

but the garden is getting the good soaking it needs to start the seeds..

DD#1 found me a roto hoe at a rummage sale.. a battery operated one.. I have to go pick it up and see how it will work..

I have turkeys, barocks and guineas hatching today.. and a peacock pip,, have to really watch that one..
