Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning all.

That banana egg pancake sounds good. Easy enough for me to even try !! LOL

Still pooped out from yesterday... bl4... shaking my head..... wish I had 1/10th your energy !!! I think I need to follow you to the blood bank when you make a donation...... I'll be the one with the hanky over my nose holding up the place for your donation !!! LOL I love hearing everything you accomplish !!! More in a week then I do all year !!!!

You go girl !!!

Had high hopes of getting up early today..... so much for that. Go to Wausau tomorrow to the pulm doctor. So we'll see what he says now that I also saw the cardiologist. Should be interesting...but no doubt the same old thing.
He requested a copy of my CT scan which was sent to him two weeks ago from Milw.

Ok, this is really going to be a short post. I'm to tired to even rattle on... and I'm hungry now... craving banana pancakes !!! lol

Speaking of fires.... have to light one under ET too !!!!

One last request.... I know you all posted your recipes for FF but I can't seem to find them... Unk You never answered me... where do you get the cheese starter.
VickyW... how did you make yours? I looked up YouTubes and they just put the feed under water..... didn't add anything to it other then ACV .......I want the easy peasy recipe. I figure I'm going to make a pail of one of each, all flock, layer crumbles, layer mash, scratch, chick starter.... see what they all look and smell like and what ferments quickest.

So question about that.... Once it starts bubbling and you feed some out of the pail, you add more water and feed right, ok then how long til you can dip into that bucket for more after you'e added more water and feed ? Or do you add more water and feed everyday and dip into it everyday or do you have to wait a day or two? Arrrghhhh !!! so confusing and afraid I won't do it right.

Guess this isn't a very short post after all !!
Congrats on all of the new chicks, guineas, and ducklings !!!
Cali the pup is sound asleep, she is an Angel when she hangs with you. Devil when she is left alone. My bedspread has tons of holes in it now with stuffing alll pulled out. I only made sure things were out of nose length reach from her wire kennel..... DA !!!... Her legs are super long and she obviously pawed it to get mouthful and pull it in....... Should have bought the plastic kennel but for summer I thought the wire one would be better....

Poor Frenchie, sounds like your pup has separation anxiety..... try giving her a Kong stuffed with PB every time you leave, or a chewie, or a bone of some kind. It is a good idea to go away on short spurts and make them longer and longer if you can. No blood donating going on here, I have low iron levels so I need to hang on to all my blood!

:)

Hi FRENCHIE!!!
I learned quickly not to over complicate the FF thing. Of course you can get really into making your own feed to ferment and add all kinds of wonderful stuff but I decided to, at least in the beginning, to keep it simple. Since my pellets already has LABS in it, all I had to do was throw some in a clean plastic bucket, add water (and keep adding water as it gets sucked up to keep at least an inch or so of water on top) stir at least two or three times a day for the first couple days and watch the bubbles. I have a lid on my bucket because it's sitting on my back porch. I actually scooped some out for my girls the first night to make sure they would actually eat it, especially the babies. All mine love it! I threw in extra feed right away and that was it! I let the bucket sit until the following night and it was bubbling away so I put out a cup for each girl. They actually didn't finish it up till the next day so I've backed off a little. I also didn't add anymore dry after realizing I had plenty going. Yesterday I did throw in the last og the chick starter I had just to get rid of it. The bucket wasn't cooking that well this morning but it got pretty chilly last night. My recommendation to you is to go check out the natural chicken keeping website. Hope this helps.

BabyLady: Thanks I will have to try that asap!

FT: FF is very easy to do. Just add feed to a bucket, add water and stir. Make sure there is enough water that after the feed has absorbed water, there is still an inch or two covering it. (You may have to check it in a couple hours the first time you do this until you get a feel for how much water to add for the amount of food you add)To jump start and get "LABS" going you can add a couple Tbsps of yogurt that has live culture or buttermilk. Otherwise, it will develop this within a couple of days all on its own without adding anything!
As far as how much to add and how soon you can use it...I usually feed them FF in the morning then add back the amount i took out and its ready again by evening feeding. You can usually tell as its bubbling away when you go to get more out if its ready. (I also have dry food available all the time but boy has it reduced how much of this they are eating) I have 28 chickens eating this right now and I put out aprox. 8 cups and its gone in no time.

ETA: A great resource for all questions on FF: www.naturalchickenkeeping.com (Sorry I know Ive posted this before but its been awhile and has a LOT fo great resources other than just FF!)

Hi all--popped in for lunch. Hay Frenchie....I had the banana "pancakes" for lunch! With butter and cause I wanted them to taste more like pancakes, a bit of HM syrup. THey are tasty...but I believe next time I make them I will add a couple Tbs of oat flour to give them a bit more substance. They seemed a bit soggy...and I must confess that I dont like the flavor of bananas all that well! My daughter is always telling me to eat them though cause she says the potassium will keep me from getting so many bruises? Well, all I say to that is if she actually DID anything physical (besides playing Volleyball) she might have bruises too!

Funny story...I was really wanting banana bread or muffins (must be cause of reading all this banana stuff) and I was going to make some because I had 2 that were getting pretty black...went into the cupboard where we have to keep them so the cats (yes CATS) dont eat them, and they were gone! (Longest run-on sentence EVER!) So I stopped at St Vinnies on the way home from taking son to town and there in the FREE cart were TONS of perfectly ripe bananas!!! (and also some Brownberry buns that the people can have with their BBQed beef sammies tonight!) So that was good and now I can make my bread too!

Before I left I was on here and read all the posts and clickec the Multi-Quote button...evidently it doesnt keep that for you if your puter goes to sleep...so I cant remember what I was going to say to those of you that I quoted...,
I wonder if it keeps your "copy" click?

Yup--it does! So look at this video...totally hilarious and absolutely true! (especially in Vickie's case!) LOL!
This woman does a good spoof on Monsanto too...

OK--I need to get back outside and do some gardening! The weeds are killing me here! Good think I bought some more perennials to take up some of the space!

Oh--one more thing...I had a guy call for goose eggs. He is the professor at Rockford College for Zoology and Environmental Sciences--what a nice guy! He is from Alabama and we had a really interesting chat about the buckeyes and their 10 toes...and my Americana with the dewlap and topknot! He said he would send me his email...I am anxious to hear some of his takes on genetics of various birds! They are going to dry out the eggs in a dehydrator so they didnt have to hatch...he was going to PAY me for them! I am glad that they are out of here! He was very interested in the quail too...especially the blonde ones I got from that same contact in Chicago.

off to garden on this most beautiful day! TerriO
