Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

He's about a year they said and by the size of his spurs seems about right. I just 12 eggs today from him x with blr, blue and a black Wyondotte also with blue wheaton americana, light Brahma, black australorp, buff orp and a blue Andalusian. Can't wait to see what he produces. Thanks for taking the time to comment makes me feel I didn't buy a total dud. Hen is much lighter than him and with the molting looks very scabby all over especially in her neck.

Will be nice to see some off spring from him. it takes 18 months for males to fully mature.

This it what I mean by round

The lower chest is filled in more and looks more like a round ball verses a heart shape. Dark red and no yellow on the neck.

Cs,

I just sold all of my ducks and all of my males... I must have sold over 50 birds in two days.
Was a busy weekend. I am down to under 50 birds. It seems so naked in the yard like it is winter approaching. I have the chicks growing up under hens, the incubator full, and 10 Wyandottes growing, and my layers and Orpingtons. That's it.

Yes, I am pretty excited. I wanna join the 10 toed club

We are getting more rain..I hope the ditches I dug helps this time. It seems like it does not want to slow down. I have not let  the birds out yet this morning.

Deli-glad you sold so many at the fair. Now there is room. LOL

thanks for noticing the pics Cind,,  I guess nobody else saw them..

chkn scrtch,   how do you go about burning out a stump?  I tried it last year and the stump hardly got charred..  I am thinking I should drill a bunch of holes into it and fill them with oil and get that to burning ?

Neat trick, turning yourself into a horse..  I was hitch hiking one time and I got picked up by a witch..  I know she was a witch, because we drove only a short distance when  she turned into a motel..

I have no idea how to do it while the wood is still green. This wood is real wet and I'm not sure if it'll even burn with me setting a fire on top of the stump but we are gonna try. DH cut the stump off to right above the ground so we can create a mock fire pit around each stump and light up some old seasoned wood with the hope that it'll burn out the stump at some point.
I raked up all of the debris and all of the wood is stacked up.
My mom is coming up from Indiana tomorrow and will stay until Monday.
Another blk orp has begun laying....yeah!!!!! Picked a bunch of chokecherries, peas, and spearmint for the rabbit and chicks to celebrate. Not really but they did get some. I hope to make a jelly out of the chokes.
Any news on the goslings?

You will be busy picking that choke cherry tree. Have you tried to start another tree yet? Start one for me too...please.if you do...let me know how the black berries are doing. yummy.

My Black cap berries are just starting to ripen, The mullberries are going crazy this year and our service berry tree decided to fruit this year for the first time.

Everyone at our house has smiles on their faces and purple fingers.

Hi folks,

Jim such cute little chicks what are the names?

tip of the day:

to burn out a stump,,,dig around it deep as you can a foot deep is a good measure,,,,then build a campfire on top and over it,,,,,keep that fire going covering that stump with coals,,,might take a few days but I have seen HUGE stumps removed below grade this way (yes I was the gopher for the fuel)

lost another duck this evening, had a crew of volunteers here all day, weed wackers running, kids working all over the gardens and grounds,,,lotsa noise and activity. Kids left at 4pm,,,,DD and I did some cleanup, I got on the big mower and worked the fire lanes for an hour. Ran to town for deli came home and the Cayuga was gone,,,,,neighbor has lost a number of birds this week,,,all during the day. Coyotes is the thinking here, we have both seen them this summer and every night they are yowling. Not good.

JJ I will come down and pick all your blackcaps for you. I miss them so much, they are my favorite! Right now I drive all the way to Mosinee to pick them, and the place I pick knows how to charge REALLY well.

Yes I know how to turn myself into a horse, I will not tell you what else I turn in to...... so you should all watch out. BTW my broom is Turbo charged, so there is no outrunning me.

The city had their fireworks tonight..... so everyone in town is lighting off fireworks even though we have about 6 ordinances on the books about this sort of thing. Everything getting lit off right now is illegal..... and of course this will continue for the next 4 hours.

DH is feeling much better, thank goodness he had today off. Unfortunately he has to work tomorrow so I hope he is able to take it easy.

That is about it here.....

I candled eggs under broodies. I only pitched 2. I couldn't see very well at all because it as so light in the coop, but if there looked to be a largish blob, I kept it. That means CC, that Stella and Moose have 2 chicks cooking right now. Apparently he hit the mark once... ;)

I'm stalling because I have my 4 oldest and then my 2 nephews and my dad all outside it ting around the ire. A lot of boys who don't know how to clean up after themselves. Tomorrow should be fun!

Erin, nice pics and wanted to answer your question - yes, chicks sleep all sprawled out on the floor. I bet they'll outgrow that brooder before they'll figure out the roost.

Dan, too bad about the Cayuga. Flippin' preds.

Finally started doing FF today, and all the birdies are loving it. Just have to find some thrift store pans and a couple strainers. Now let's hope this cuts back on the feed bill.

vicki, don't know the progress/stage on Julie yet; she had lots of testing this week. Tomorrow she's coming over to pick up the 7 silkies I just hatched for her, she'll fill me in on the details. And I know she doesn't want to keep all those silkies - there are black, brown, and a white with a couple chipmunky back stripes (looks just like an Ewok.) Anybody need a couple?

If I find out it's a coyote killing my birds (like my geese), there will be a major coyote hunt going on. I can't bring myself to give anyone permission to kill fox, but the coyotes can go. There are a few people that have asked to hunt them and I've always said no. I need to set up surveillance asap.
