Oh and I never told you guys about the young bald eagle who's been cruising my place like its a food court at the mall. It just flies over real slow. Several times a day. Really graceful, but a young bald eagle, since it doesn't have much white on its head yet. The one day I hear George make some funny noises and his chicks all go scattering. I'm standing next to the pool since Halden and the therapist are in it. So George comes scooting over to me and is hiding behind my legs peeking his head out looking at the sky. That eagle was about 25 ft straight up above me, just hovering almost. I swear it was thinking about making a go for George even with me in the way! Kinda scary actually! Nothing has been grabbed yet, but I won't be surprised if it happens.
I also have 2 new Deli babies hatched now. That leaves me with a 3 wk old and the2 new ones. I took the Riga orphan in the house today and cleaned it up. I think it was going for a dip in the fermented feed, or it got caught in a food fight! Then we sat with it wrapped in a towel and just kept it warm, and dry, and patted its head. Then it got spoiled with some tiny bits of bread. And there were NO big chickens running it over to get to it. If a chick could smile, then it was! Very sweet baby, but we put it back outside. Riga lets it follow her around. Some of the teenager chicks are ok with it. At night, I've been throwing Riga and baby in lock down so I know baby has a warm body. But I have to put Riga in there, and have to locate baby to put in there to. I hate to separate it though, and brood a singleton, because it is already an accepted member of the flock. So a little extra care and talc from me I think, but keep it with the birds.
Ok.... Back to work!
