Terri O: Gorgeous pictures! Love that purple yellow (lily?) !!!!

Latte update: I treated her twice with Corid per instructions. Its been almost 2 weeks since last does. Took another fecal sample in and there are still high number of Cocci. Also saw 2 round worm eggs. Thank goodness these are still seperated. The vet was going to send home a different med to try for her. Also, I am now thinking I should probably take in a fecal sample from my main flock just to be on the safe side. Anyone else have problems with Corid not taking care of Cocci?

Vicki, I read on the natural thread you said yours were not quite 100% could this be why? Did you also send in another sample? I'm curious with scotts bully not 100% also. I didnt send in a sample. Just assumed this was why. He's currently in a rabbit caged being treated with corrid. I want to make sure I donit right.

Did you guys say any vet could send in a sample? I think I will call mine. Just to be sure.

SClark: Did you take a fecal sample back in after treatment to ensure it was gone or in acceptable range? I thought mine seemed to be on her way to recovery and looking so much better...but before integrating her into my main flcok I re tested today.

Cuties: I am pretty sure any vet can do it...its a matter of looking at it under a microscope and knowing what to look for.

One concern Ihave is: What is acceptable and unacceptable range? Do the vets really have a baseline they can judge this on? In my case it sounds like it was obviously way above acceptable range still. But the reason I ask is: they said they spotted 2 roundworm eggs in stool sample. I beleive there is always some worm load in chickens right? How do they know when its above acceptable range? Also Eprinex treats round worms right? I had treated my miaan flock with eprinext a couple months ago so they should be ok for that. How young can use use Eprinex on chick? I am guessing these 2 are probably 3-4 months old.

No Angie, I never sent another sample yet they said to wait 30 days. I honestly think they are ok as no more poopy bottoms or bloody stools and are finally gaining weight and growing.

Going to go attempt to install a garage door for the first time. Garage has 2 doors like a barn and they are quite annoying when it's windy. See how well my 14&12 yr boys can help me.

. . . you saved me time responding to so many posts. I have had such a busy couple of weeks, and any time I had a chance to read the posts there were well over 100. By the time I got through them would either forget what I wanted to say or plum ran out of time.

Welcome to all the newbies to the Cheeseheads . . . great group here, very informative and entertaining.

chickenscratch: At least your Dad is moving here during the summer months rather than winter when that initial boredom could really be problematic. Good luck, and a "hang in there" coming your way

FrenchToast: I think a couple of others mentioned Sunnyside in Beaver Dam. That is where we had gotten our Cornish Rock X last year and were very pleased. We have 150 straight run coming from them via our local Landmark office tomorrow morning. Gonna be a lot of little beaks to double dip. Hope your FF is going well, my girls just love it and it really does make the feed go further. We are going to raise this batch of meaties on FF since the cost of the meat producer feed has taken such a jump in price.

Ok gotta run, I went over on my lunch break but after a week or so of reading posts and not being able to respond I just had to stop and at least say hi

(love these little emonicons). Stay cool everyone!!

SClark: Mine never had the bloody droppings. I know not all strains show blood in droppings so maybe the strain she has is more difficult to get rid of? who knows...poor thing. I am anxiously awaiting to hear what medication they sent home. The only other one I know of to treat Cocci is Sulmet and I have heard thats even harsher on their systems.

Different strains of cocci are become more resistant to treatment. I am clueless about cocci. This is the first time I have dealt with it. I have read the corid should be given with ground up apple cores including the seads and to not give any type of vitamines. I have electrolytes in the water. I might not have gotten it under control.
Quote: Yes, it could be why. I did not treat a second time either. I have been adding dry powdered milk to top of feed every other day now.

There is worm load in all animals. I have never wormed my flock so I do not know. My samples have all been negative so far. I am sure they have them.
You might want to add garlic to the feed for a few days if you are worried about over taxing the system with more drugs for now. Your vet should be able to tell you if it is a concern.

Is the ground up apple for nutrition? Is it still ok to give him his yogurt and garlic durring treatment? Vets dont seem to know the answers to these kind of questions when it comes to chickens. Heck! When I had turkey questions, they wouldn't even talk to me!
I had to ask 4-h people. And they were all like, off with their heads! I love them, and plan to show/ breed some. So, not an option for me, unless untreatable.
