Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thanks to Vicki (Delisha) for having me over today...and for the eggs of course!! I've got my box cut up and I'm just waiting for DH to come home with a bag of shavings. Should I wait for Colton's eggs to come to switch over? I forgot to ask you that.
You can get her started and settled on the eggs you already have. Once Colton's arrive, you can just set them in front of her and she will pull them underneath her with the rest. It might be better to start her out on a few of them instead of just giving her a huge clutch right off the bat. It depends. Not all broodies are the same. Good luck!

Funny stuff, Vicki.

Thought she was a raptor for a sec, eh?

Well I've tried for the past half hour to upload photos of broodies and their chicks but it won't let me on my phone.

I have 2 more broody hens that should be hatching in a week, a bantam and a glw.

Threw my back out again just walking into the house. Spent 4 hours in urgent care trying to get answers as this same thing happened last Nov. They took Xrays of my hips and pelvic finally and found major arthritis and said my tendons in mu hips are working correctly. Result was Gabapentin 3x day, methocarbamol 4x day and now Vicodin 2 every 4 hrs as im in such severe pain I can barely walk. Hope it gets better before surgery Wednesday or im really gonna be in ruff shape. Have the boys all trained on chicken chores as doc says absolutely no activity for 2 weeks after. Will see how that goes.

Daughter did photography and flower arrangements in the fair so had to drop that off yesterday. Got to walk thru and see all the chickens. My chickens aren't anything special and would of outdid most their. I assumed being shown I would of seen some real nice quality but sadly disappointed. I did however manage to purchase 2 BLRW hens I have to go pick up tomorrow. Alot of the hens were bald backed from roos, I didn't think those would be shown but alot. The only ss roos comb was so pale nearly white in spots, what causes that? Stress? Most of the chickens shown were from Edgewood Acres Farm Hatchery in Winter,wi. They had a roo that looked identical to my barnyard Billy Bob that's tag said it was an Americana with the hugest straight comb I've seen and took a blue ribbon. Im very confused at this. Son plans on showing next year for sure, im sure he'll do well. Im not trying to sound better, just disappointed as what was shown.

Anyhow going to try and upload pics again. Also want to show my slw roo and see what you think Delisha.

Fish Fry Friday To Everyone....the outside cooker is rockin again this Friday. It makes the best fry!
Catfish, Talipia, and Bluegills did the dance in the cooker...the fries wer double dipped for sure goldeness, and the ho-made cole slaw is reason enough to stay home on Friday night.

Been busy at Camp. It takes a lot of work to keep it going. Hope we can always use the facilities.

Shared a bunch of cukes, broccoli, and green beans with the guys at Camp. My broccoli is award winning this year. Second cutting, looks like some folks first. Must be 40 years of gardening knowledge, eh!

Off to watch the Pack....hope they can make the playoffs....wonder if the Lions do?

Busy first week on the job. Dh was home with kids who are so ready for school because they are at each others throats so,he is now,crabby...
Hit state fair on Wednesday but no chickens until today or,tomorrow so I was bummed. Wanted to,check them all out and scope what I want next year!
Don't know where my nuts leve is right now but just invited 10 boys and 10 girls for my kids bday party in a few weeks. We just do something at home so can afford more of their friends. I have a friend who loans me her small bouncy house that fits 4-5 kids at a time. We set up sports stations around the yard, I ordered cheap crafty projects from orientation trading company and we will have make your own cupcakes. Enough to,keep 20 kids busy for two kids bays for two hours.

Chicken is still in quarantine. Standing ok, but still clear drips out her nose.

Thanks all for the chicken advise... Got any thoughts on when the 19 weekend are gonna stop eating so much and pay me with eggs????

The group is corronation Sussex, ameracana, black copper Marans and olive eggers. I hope they start producing soon!!! Not surprised I guess my good ole girls seem to be non producing as well. 2 out of 8 hens.. 2 out of 30 total is not the numbers we were hoping for !

Colton: good luck ion the field, my oldest is a receiver and running back..Among other things and he is loving it!! He's pretty pooped though too!!

Good luck in the last 4 weeks Amy, those are the hardest... I got very impatient!!

Well back to the Packer game:)

TO --- do you have any good gluten free / NUTT free bread recipes?? I made a NUTT one today with cashew butter, it was good, but kind of pricey to make And didn't rise like I wanted

Morning all. Well I'm closer to retiring, met with the UW benefits people Tuesday thinking I could complete the paperwork, drop it off at the Dept. of Employee Trust Funds, then just wait out the next five months . . . did I just type 5 MONTHS

hmmm just a little excited. Then we are getting ready to leave the meeting and I tell them "next stop ETF" and the response was . . . "they won't accept any application until 90 days prior the the retirement date". Ok fine!!! Since 90 days is the beginning of October and my husband's birthday is 10/9, I thought that would be a good day for me to deliver my retirement paperwork. Happy birthday honey - now I get to be home to "help" with all the projects on the "honey do" list. Oh and by the way did I tell you I've added to that list

kristip: I'm so sorry to hear your going through this - are the teenagers getting better?

bl4: you mentioned that you can't wait to see Amy's baby girl . . . I've been so busy and with so many posts the time I do get on I end up skimming (sorry all) and I must have missed this, when did she have her baby?

Amy: CONGRATS on the birth of you baby girl.

vickiw: I wish I would have read the posts before I placed my Amazon order. I ordered the square Nesco because it was USA made. I hope it will be as good as the Excalibur. Also wanted to chime in on the scratch, we also use a scratch mix as a littel treat (hubby seams to think they like he need a little bed time snack), but we add a little something depending on whats on hand things like cut up bannanas, a little shredded cheese, meal worms, and especially in the winter he'll mix in a can of tuna. Yes - these girls are spoiled.

Jim: good to hear about your DD#2 getting the State nursing home job, yes those are good bennies. I was a payroll and benefit specialist for 24+ years with Dpt of Family Medicine so I know these bennies well.

Amyable: So glad you, bl4, irishrovr and everyone else up in that neck of the woods is ok. It is most unfortunate that the church sustained so much dammage, but thankfully no one was hurt and it will be rebuilt. I was really saddend to see that 75% of the Maribel Cave Hotel is gone. We camped up there a few years ago and I thought that was such a cool structure.

Colton: So sorry to hear about your chics. I must say, your sense of responsibilty and maturity alway impress me. You do your parents proud!! I hope you have better luck with the replacements. By the way . . . have fun on the football field this fall.

unkadan: I'm right there with you on supporting the mom and pop operations. We buy our layer's feed at a little shop in Paoli and I believe she said the blend comes from a farmer near Westby. Although I do buy my meat producer from F&F due to cost. They had it on sale last month for $2 less than the price I paid last year so we bought 30 50lb bags which is what I used for 75 birds. I've read that fermenting the feed will give better results with less feed so we started this year's batch of 150 meaties on fermented feed. It will be intresting to see how far the 30 bags takes me with twice as many birds as last year.

irishrovr: on the zucchini bread, I used to bake the loaves and freeze them, but one year only had time to shred the zucchini and freeze it in 2 cup (what my recipe calls for) packages. That worked out so well and took up a lot less room in my freezer, so that's how I do it all the time now JAT (just a thought)

Oops sorry long post

I freeze little bags of the shredded zucchini, too. It's nice, though, to have some ready to go when company comes unexpectedly (or when I need something not too-too sweet).
