Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

unlike evolution,  the skeptics of climate change are bringing about the extinction of our species sooner.  The choice between what is right and what is easy is always difficult.

I hope I do not live long enough to say I told you so.  My grandchildren may.

I tried really hard to not comment on this.  The term Global warming will come up next winter and next summer, and the winter after that.  What a great name the polluters put on it for the conversation to be about if it exists instead of what could have been done.  I do not expect anything to change the minds of the doubting flock, nor do I expect my flock and I will change our minds either.  unless our shepherds tell us to.

And yes I can see down the fronts of your shirts from up on this soap box.  Very nice.
lol

Climate change is just part of the problem. Our tainted food supply (full of poisons and lacking nutrients), water filled with chemicals and hormones, polluted air, skin cancer causing sun, deforestation and most of all (the cause of all if this), the overpopulation of the human race is what will wipe us out. There is not enough natural resources on this planet to support our ridiculously large, and constantly growing population. I feel guilty about even having kids and I would feel good about them not having any themselves. I just feel bad that we're killing so many species of plants and animals. But never fear, the test tube burger was ok tasting, so we will all be saved . . . BTW, I will starve to death before I ever put "meat" grown in a laboratory in my mouth.

Twiz, 16 weeks? Hen.

Kristi, make your own Jap beetle trap by cutting the top 1/3 off a 2L bottle & using the top part like a funnel. Look at pics to make the top "x" part out of cardboard. Use a piece of wire or string to hang it. Buy some Jap beetle lures on Amazon. Hang the trap about 3-6" above a bucket of water out in an open sunny area close to your coop. Every morning when you let your girls out, they will bee-line to the bucket and chomp down all those nasty bugs. Free chicken chow.

and the Cheesehead thread, C&P. Hope you like it here.

No problem Vicki. I will have to figure out when we are heading up there next. Most likely either next weekend or the weekend after (probably this one). Then I'll have to make a plan with Terri. Hopefully Frenchie can meet up with me & get them to Antigo? Frenchie? Ya with us here?

A-flippin-men, BBP! The number one cause of most of the problems on this planet is too many people.

Irish, the lures/traps do attract the beetles, but the beetles are around anyway munching on your other trees, plants, bushes, etc., (and mating in the process). The lures are not strong enough to attract them from very far away. It is amazing how many of those darn things are around, and if I can trap & kill them, then it'll be that many less that will be around to procreate. They do make great chicken food, though. But that is just IMHO, as is the previous comment.

Evening...my horse kicked my ***** tonight...guess I should eat something before stopping at the bar! Too many friends to buy you drinks!
How are the banana squash at your place? mine grew but are way behind.

Soup is the word of the day.

I cut broccoli this morning and made some soup with the leaves and stems in the blender. yum.
THe banana did not come up! Save me more for another try next year!
Anyone have a good solution fr keeping those Japanese beetles off my fruit and veg?
The best thing to do is to drop them into a jar of soap and water. The more that are on the plants, the more that come because of their smell. At my clients' place I hand picked for two days and thent hey were gone!
got some pictures of the flock today:) I'm impressed with my small variety of birds.

This BR in the front is about 16 weeks old, any guesses on gender? The comb looks pretty red to me......

My poor cochin hen is missing some feathers on her head, my big rooster is not gentle on her at all. But he's separated now.

These 4 geese are the newest members to our flock, their really shy right now.
That barred bird is a pullet! Congrats!
Anyone heading between Wausau and Madison area?i would take jelineks polish roo, but now that I am working, can't make that distance....
Kris...I am traveling to Wausau on Tuesday to pick berries at Jim's place. I would be happy to help you out...
One of my older gardening friends told me those traps actually attract more beetles from outside the area so you may end up with more beetles on your plants before they make it to the trap. Even if you move it away from the target plants, they fly over it from one direction in order to get to the trap. (Same goes for the electric bug zappers.) I had some on a little mini rose and I just kept knocking them off and squishing them. They seem to be gone now and the plant is doing fine.
Yup--this is true!

Good night all...I NEED to hit the hay!

Thanks Celtic Chick! I never thought that I would be in this place this early on in his life. It is horrible. So sorry for your loss as well.

I am making a round trip down and back that way as well if this week does not work out.

Took the oldest DD out tonight with the entire family and the BF to Olive Garden to celebrate her 18th birthday.

Moderation? I needed some of that last night!
