Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Just finished making a packet of veggies for on the grill. We are making venison chops tonight. I wanted lamb but this is what DS brought up so this is what we will eat! The packet has potato, peppers, tomatoes, swiss chard and scallion with olive oil that DD21 brought me from Italy! I also added some herbs. Then we are having beets and beans/sugar snap peas for another veggie. Should be pretty yummy! I am so hungry for a baked potato but has anyone seen the prices of potatoes lately?

I usually get the #8 bag of "family potatoes" (read weird shapes and sizes) for right around $2+/-. That sized bag was $6.99 last week! I refuse!!!! I have a lot of potatoes underground in the garden (I hope) so I guess I will wait! I sure wish I had those heirlooms again this year...my mouth is watering just thinking about them. I was looking through some pics on here and saw "the great potato experiment" from last fall....

<---ME! THe plants are still growing so they must not be ready...but I might go out and scrabble for a few this week! (true New Potatoes--right Jim?)

I am listening to Bob Dylan right now. DH left his tablet open and hooked up so I took a look what he had on there to listen to. It is pretty good. I also listened to The Crash Test Dummies and Fleetwood Mac.

Sorry VIcki...no picks tonight...I had the camera and then totally forgot...tomorrow for sure!

Cripes...I wonder if DH is watching the veggies...I dont smell anything cooking but I CAN hear the radio playing out in the barn...yes OVER the music I am listening too...I think he is in one of those midlife crisies again. How do you spell that? The plural of crisis? My dictionary doesnt seem to have it.

OK--he is in and putting the veni on...I guess I better cook those beans/peas!

Later folks! TerriO

right TerriO, new potatoes,, nice and long..

now , about my question ?? Dora ??

this is the young BO rooster I am keeping,, just 19 weeks old in this photo..
sh!t !! I cut off the top of his head.. take my word for it ,, he has a nice comb...

I am playing with my photo philes,,

I think some of my problems come from sending too large of pictures..

the icon says they are 3000 x 4000 . I am trying to change that..

my internet provider told me that it was their internet connection.. seemed to think that I just have to live with it ..

Nor Road Island Red ,,

is Rhode Island Red ,,

If the shoe fits :
I assumed Jim has friends that really like and are knowledgeable about photos, ya know photophiles. What they mat have been playing is a mystery. My imagination says Duck, Duck, Goose as this is a poultry thread.

I am learning so much from all of your posts. Know that I am jealous of some of these new babies you have. Makes me feel like Noah I want two of everything!
I use Diatomaceous earth, but have purchased it at the garden center, not sure that it is food grade but I do not bath them in it rather spread it in the nesting boxes and around the coop and the house, it works miracles on ants and earwigs.
Just wondering how much the autopsy on the rooster cost? Think I may have mentioned that even though I islolated some new chicks I got at a swap 8 weeks they managed to infect my RIR with infectious bronchitis... Poultry expert at the UW extension said the virus can live up to 12 weeks

But I was thinking now that half my flock is not laying or if they are laying they are really watery whites that we would butcher and do the autopsy myself. I do not see that this disease affects the birds muscle tissue just their reproductive track. So looking at their ovaries will tell me the story for sure. Still not sure if hubby and I can do the deed. If anyone would like these birds for a canning exercise I would be glad to donate them.
All of you who hatch your own, do you not look at the wings and determine sex at that time? My neighbor has hatched 13 or so and I have been correct 100% but you have to do it in the first 24 hours.
I also sure hope it warms up soon, too many green tomatoes in the garden. Little rain would be good too.
Someone also mentioned raspberries I have everbearing that I love love love. I would be glad to mail/send you bare root in the spring if you private message me. Best part of the everbearing is that you do not have to prune out canes just mow the entire bed in the fall.

Oh my...my csa had these chickens at their farm and I am in awe. I had to ask and they said they were French poulet chickens....these were like RIR on steroids...huge. I was shocked.
No one answered my prior question too about if bantams would be easier for younger kids to show in 4h or not....any bantam suggestions.... Just trying to get ideas for next spring.

Just want to stop in before Terri hits the hay.... I got the feathers!!!

Thanks so much! I'm washing the Quills now and I hope I can get a few done for them to take tomorrow. Don't know if Jon will go though. He has a summer cold and can barley talk, not good for a hawker!

This is my first year with bantams so I am no help. My DD did all LF in 4H when we lived in Burlington.

I might see where the best help is in your local 4H. LF or batams. Surround yourself with experienced and smart people, and the rest will be easier.
