Jim- I know you don't hear this enough, your blanching and freezing method is 100% correct
Irish - that is a great method we use it for cooking to eat on the cob. Blanching is different. JJust stops the bacteria and ripening process.

RBChicks- Brennans is a complete rip off. 9 dollars for a watermelon. the sales guy said "it's the best melon you've ever had" I replied " I will NEVER know if that is true"
thanks JJ, a pat on the back is nice.. this method has worked for us for over 45 years.. and we have always had good corn.. the type of corn has a lot to do with the goodness, frozen or corn on the cob.. we use Serendipity from Jung,, we have had other good ones in the past, .
we like the white and yellow varieties,, but stumbled upon Serendipity just about 4 years ago.. It is out all time favorite.. the ears are not huge, but adequate ,,
I like your answer about the watermelon, I miss those old time melons that were too big for a kid to lift.. full of seeds, but sooo sweet ..
when I worked nights at a truck stop gas station, a trucker stopped for something to eat..
he told me that I could go into the back of his truck and take as many watermelons as I wanted. it was the bottom layer and he was going to just throw them away anyhow.. I sorted through the straw and found many that were not even cracked.. I had a Volkswagon beetle.
I literally filled that car up.. there was no room for anybody but the driver.. I must have had at least 30 of them,, I don't remember .. the whole neighborhood had melons,, we ate them for just about every meal and snacks for a week or more.. It worked out perfectly for Annie,, she was PG with our twins that summer and she craved watermelon,,
