Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh no CC! If there's fur flying, does that mean you're... ummm... hairless? :-D
I thought that was Frenchie....

Off to the Fair people! I will report back on who won what!

Good evening all, is it safe to come out and play?

All is right in my little chunk of northern heaven this evening. Puppy is responding well to her drugs. Totally back to her bouncy self. She had so much fun terrorizing the poor kitty today that she's sound asleep on the couch.
All the chooks are doing better. Well, except for my poor last rescue hen Soup. She developed a bit of a cough yesterday and a little snotty today, doesn't surprise me with her weakened immune system, so she's getting the extra strength VetRx and as long as I had to make a batch for Soup, they all got some up their noses, which they just love! :lau. Everybody started the tetracycline in their water today, except for the little s. They seem to be fine, but I'm debating whether I should go ahead and treat them too. Still not totally sure I'm dealing with IB or something milder. Sure seems to be pretty easy to clear up but no question it started with poor Momma.
what do you guys think?

Oh, did I mention that I am getting 3 eggs a day now from my 3 amigos? :thumbsup

CC I prefer Fire Fox for all my browsing, works fine here and always has for me, pretty simple if I can use it. I tried Chrome but didn't like it enough to keep it.

Had fff home made, friend (indeed) dropped off some fresh bluegills, got me thinking about some fall fishing after the lakes calm down.

Helping a friend butcher tomorrow he's doing about 40 birds, all hens at about 1.5 yrs, I have no idea why he didn't sell them on CL prices are pretty good right now for layers. His brother is helping, he traps and tags predators for the DNR, I plan to pick his brain for a couple hours, maybe get a plan together to thin them around here. Last night around 9 the fox or coyotes were serenading me again from behind the barn, another project that needs doing.

Another friend just called, traded a pickup load of firewood for a load of sweet corn, going to get it Sunday morning, looks like that will be my project to start the week.

ain't friends grand?

Beautiful afternoon here perfect, I have red tomatoes

But sad we had decided to get rid of our 6 RIR cause we just don't have it in us like John and some of you to do the deed. Clinton is too far a drive to pay someone $5.00 apiece. Like I said they got IB their ovaries are messed up but the meat should be good. Can not eat runny whites and flat yolks... Fried one this afternoon to make sure and the whit actually came up into the center of the yolk
hit.gif

Also if anyone has some replacement RIR in this area we'd be interested I am going to check on that Evansville lead too for some Delawares. There is a swap up Nort... but that is how we got the IB and I am never ever doing that again
rant.gif

I see all this about meal worms and I can understand why you would raise your own. I saw them at FF and they wanted $9.00 for a bag well I suppose you are supposed to feed Bluebirds and not pigs errr chickens... Sometimes I think my chicks are more pig than anything
hmm.png

Glad also that everyone seems to be on the mend. I was worried I had brought your group bad luck...
Also Kristi summer squash and Zukes are interchangeable
As for the sweet corn I saw somewhere that if you use a metal Bundt pan you can slide the corn down the center and the corn goes in the pan... I tray freeze mine and then break it up and put it large bags, just don't like those blocks, call me weird... Well I gotta go bag some of my green beans and freeze some broccoli
Happy Friday I'm going for a nice cold "Supper Club" beer to freeze veggies by...

Great about the eggs

Have you thought about the possibility of mold? We had some serious wet weather earlier, than it went hot than cold..the mold spores are having a field day. If you have Oxine..a mist a day right in the face will help with that. But it sounds like you are fixing it right up with what you are using.

Hi all! Welcome to all the newbies
I have been pretty busy here with the garden, and the chickens and goats are loving that. They get all the leftovers from the canning. Did more broccoli today, and I still have 5 cauliflower in the fridge to do yet. I think that will make 25. Uh and all the cabbage and beets. Thank goodness the brussel sprouts aren't ready yet. For some reason I planted about 30 plants. Still waiting on the sweet corn. It got in late this year. Usually we plant a few acres and sell it for $3.00/doz. I don't even know how much is going to be there for our family to eat and freeze, so not sure if there will be anything to sell this year.
We lost one of the six chicks. Literally. I don't know where it went. It seems like I am doing things a little different than some of you, but I decided to let the mama raise them all by herself. They are completely free range, and I don't know where they sleep at night. She is there every morning though and I give her and the little ones some seeds and water.
Another wedding tomorrow. Still a little worried about my dress though. As my friend put it, " Your dress is fun. My dress is more...classy." Lol. If I think of it I will post a picture.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

I agree with Dan, CC - I use Firefox, too. No headbanging exercises for me!

Good thought but I was afraid of a mold issue so in spring I removed all straw from the run and keep my coop super dry. Otherwise we are almost pure sand for soil except for the raised beds so we drain like a sieve. Makes gardening tons of fun. Oh, and I couldn't function w/o my oxine. Hadn't heard of spraying them before. Good tip! Thank you!!!

Hi All

JJ... I would love those feathers! I got a few in Terri's batch and was wondering what they are. Wow, too bad though. I'm down to 4 roos and they seem to do OK. They have their own pecking order and now that that d@mn Dom is gone, no one challenges. I do have a few young ones though. They will be "gone" when big enough. I like to let my butchered chickens (roos) set in the frig. for 2 days before I eat or freeze them. And yes, slow and low for cooking.

Jim... Hope she doesn't loose many after the hatch! My grandpa would use mealworms for ice fishing.
