delisha- do you do side to side once then end to end the next time or do both per session?
I did each side and each end once... per day. I also moved the cartons in the incubator from side to middle etc. I was using still air. What a pain..I now use only fan and auto turner. My hatch rate from my own eggs is usually 100% since I changed.

So for those who posted after 5pm....

Angie.... 5'1" hey, I'm 5' welcome to the world of short! LOL When I got PG with my last one I had just managed to loose all the weight from the previous 4. I managed to gain all that weight back plus the 30 lbs for that pregnancy! about 80 lbs worth!

Nothing else new, just been busy and tired.

Night All!

I took the dog to the vet and she doesn't have a bladder infection so I got some pills to "tighten the urethra" to stop leakage. Maybe I should just teach her to do Kegel exercises? Her urine wasnt as concentrated as they like to see so they suggested kidney function tests. I said what to do it it is positive? It is diet controlled. She might have worms too so I will get a sample tested along with a first morning urine sample. She is 10 years old and has been much more active since I switched her to a no grain diet. I am also going to increase her food 25%.
I'll do it for you! I like to make little kids cry!

Yet another bunch 'o ducklings! I am thinking about heading to the racetrack at Jefferson this Sunday morning. Any body know if they will have the flea market going? I can find nothing on line!
Our dog Nikki, a Bichon Freise, started drinking extra water and then started having "accidents". We too thought bladder infection/diabetes. But they did a test and her urine was not concentrating either and she was extremely thirsty. I mean they wanted us to limit her to 1/2 c of water every 2 hours and she was so thirsty she tried licking the dew off the grass in the morning...They wanted to do more tests for something called Cushings Disease...Its a disease they can not cure but treat and it would give her a couple more years. Was costing lots of money for test where they could not diagnose o we sadly put her down. So I certainly hope this is not the case for your dear pup... But you can do some research on it.

I like making kids cry too. Took my DD24 till she was in 2nd grade to realize there was no Mean Mom School that I always told them I was graduated from with "High Honors"

We were at the racetrack last Sunday looking for chickens but none to be found. But from what I see on the web "Jefferson Bargain Fair Outdoor Flea Market & Craft Fair. Located 6 mi W of Jefferson on Hwy 18 at Jefferson Speedway grounds. Open Every Sunday, May through end of September. 6:30am-2pm. 920.648.2705 Looks like they will have a spot for you. Good luck selling!!

GOOD BEAUTIFUL MORNING. :frow

Who was it that bragged about their shopping skills? Terri? Did groceries yesterday. At one stop I spent $47 and saved $57 AND I didn't buy anything I hadn't went in for! Wish I could do that at Walmart.

Today is going to be a work day. I have to drag the babies cage out of the coop, clean everything and give it all a good attack with the Oxine. No more symptoms from anybody, but thanks to some good info and a warning from a caring fellow chickie momma, ;) I am not taking any chances for the next 12 weeks. No repeat outbreaks allowed!!!

Terri - hope you find an answer for your pup.

Everyone - hope all the heat losses are over. Guess there is at least one advantage to chicken raising this far north.

Our 10 acre meadow begins a little over 200 ft from our back porch. It's surrounded on 2 sides by thick woods that stretch literally for miles thru our land then county and state. The 3rd side to the south has a 3 deep line of trees we re-planted after the fire along the property line between us and the neighbor.. On our side it is clear till maybe 200 ft behind the house then thick woods again. Any way, every year our meadow has been a prime stop over for migrating night hawks. Yesterday afternoon we sat at our kitchen table watching hundreds of night hawks swooping and diving after bugs all over the meadow, into the yard and right up to the house many times less than 5 feet off the ground. Another sure sign that fall is on the way. Needless to say the chickens were a bit unnerved by the show. One year I sat on the porch and watched a flock go overhead that was so large it literally took almost an hour to pass! If you know about their migration, they really are amazing little birds.

I love mother nature <3

Vicki that sounds really cool to watch!

Oh my goodness, it was so NICE to get up this morning and have DH here, and no stressing about anything, no place to go immediately..... I am still sitting in my pj's and about ready for my second cup of joe. I did get my laundry going though.

Raim, I do not have much soap left..... I need to purchase supplies. What I REALLY need is a workshop to make my soap in! Making it in the kitchen is getting to be a PITA! I need to be able to purchase oils in larger quantities... AND it would be really nice to have my own supply of fresh goat milk right here at the house instead of buying it for $5 a qt!

Well, I suppose I should jump in the shower and get organized for the big trip into Appleton.....

Good morning! Yea it was me with the grocery savings Vicki. I love to do that...I had a hair cut scheduled for today at 10...cancelled until next week. I am enjoying the time sitting too and DD21 is heading back to school today so I want to go out and pick some produce for her to take along. I really should call my hay guy and get some hay in too...we are running low again. (I wonder if I can sell horses at the racetrack sale on Sunday?)

That would be a hoot for sure! 'Sunday afternoon we are having some people over for a cookout. Should be a good "end to summer" thing. Now the kids are saying that they were planning a party that night...I am sure my friends wont stay that long anyhow...

Thanks for the info on the racetrack sale BTW--I called the numbet and it only had a message about the races so I left my own message. Hopefully they call back. I have one more neighbor I can call that might know too. Were there a lot of people shopping? And NO chickens? Wow, the last time I went began my obsession with cuckoo marans! I am not sure exactly what I will be bringing along besides ducklings. I am thinking older hens too...I have a bunch of juvies that need to get into their own space! This is very hard to do cause I have to think of my egg customers too.

Cind--do you have an idea when your "goop" party will be? I have an idea for it with one of my clients...we just cant seem to heal this itchy rash he has on his ankle. I would like to try it on him for sure!

Well, guess I will get out to the garden...then off to work for me! Have a great day folks!

Vicki,, that's really neat about the night hawks! We have them fly around our property every once in a while, but never more than a half dozen birds. They have that tell-tale little screetch.

Well Jim and Cind, even though it would be nifty to have a babe that shares Jim's bday I hope I go earlier than that, especially if the weather doesn't cool. My boys were both early, so it seems to be a trend.

TO, those ducks of yours look much like Magpies. Maybe you could call them Northern Magpies, or Jefferson Magpies, or Mill Creek Magpies. Duck breeds are often named for the area they originated in.

I thawed a whole sinkful of raspberries last night, no going back now on making some jam. My inlaws brought at least 45lbs of frozen berries from DH's grandparents' freezers when his grandpa passed away; they topped off my little chest freezer to the brim. Some of the berries are from '05! I have to chuckle that they kept picking and freezing when they had so many already in storage. They should be ok for jam.
