Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

What time are all of you meeting up on Saturday and how long are you going to be there?

I have been working with my blonde dog and for three days straight he has done his level best to ignore the loose chickens. He may have figured out that those are his chickens to defend and not to eat or he made the correlation between the chickens being out and him having to wear the muzzle. He hates the muzzle. He is also afraid of turkeys after being chased and pecked on the hind end after stealing a wild turkey's baby.

Speaking of turkeys, My 2 bronze broad breasted are doing well(huge) and wandering the yard as well. All the chattering they do has attracted the wild turkey moms and kids into the yard. They come in shifts and as many as 5 moms and 25 youngins'. The other day a delivery guy came and my 2 bronze were sitting on the porch and wouldn't move to let him ring the bell. I went out to meet him, and he was all interested in buying one to eat. I told him that I only had 2 and he said then sell me one of those while pointing to the 20 in the front yard. I said he could have as many as he could catch for free.

Good dawg!!

Free turkeys ! How funny!

This incubation time around is a complete fail. I have 3 hatched out of the 40+ that were in the old round incubator and have killed 5 of them due to a drop in humidity. I have since moved half to my homemade and half to the Brinsea. They are on day 24 but candling them looks like their behind due to the temp drop I noticed a few days ago. One I did help as it was shrink wrapped was very deformed, the beak wasn't fully formed below nostrils and the eyes weren't in the right location so we culled. Im not sure if I should just stop them all now or let them go longer and hope for no more deformed chicks. The 3 that did hatch are well but were awfully wet and had yoke parts not fully absorbed. I have one Leghorn that I helped as it was shrink wrapping but seems the membrane is too thick. Its still breathing and is half covered by shell yet. Im keeping the membrane moist so it doesn't re-shrink to it as I had one do that overnight and it couldn't get out and died.

Cool pics french and awesome tractor judi. Deli I couldn't count the chicks from my phone as the pic was so small. I can't remember what else I read but hope everyone is good. Oh Yvette gl on your eggs hatching.

Wow. Sounds like you need a hug. :hugs. seriously. So sorry the hatch is going so rotten.

HI TERRI, you out there??? I went to my neighbor's this morning and I helped her hit her whole flock with Wazine. She still had the Aussies in a cute pen/run setup of their own. Within a couple hours the two Aussies were dropping round worms but thankfully not as heavy as my little Pepper, just like my bigger one I have named pot pie.
I hadn't seen hers since shortly after we brought them all home so it only took one look to see they were stunted. She had put them on Nutrena so they were otherwise looking good. Good thing she had them still separated because it looks like her flock was all clear. I'm going back in ten days and dose them all with Valbazen for her.
How did your worming go???
Pepper is doing great. Only the tiniest bit of fresh blood this morning and nothing I could tell this pm. Took them both off the amprol and hitting them hard with pro biotics and protein laced with poly vi sol. Less stressful than forcing it down them. Decided to hold off on the antibiotics for now and see how she does. She's a tough little girl but you know their systems can be incredibly fragile. I want to try to use a little less of the nuclear holocaust approach if I can and try to work WITH her system first. If all else goes well, guess we won't have a final answer how she survived till she's old enough to start to lay. I'll keep you posted.
Oh, and Al says to tell you, you owe us a really rare exotic chick next spring :D

Clark, I am so sorry about your hatch. That stinks.
Del, cute pic!!
Terri, I need one of those gift boxes! ;-)

The fence is charged, up and running!! It is a pretty good shock too. Scott touched it for a tester. The chesse nosed his hand at the same time :'( he let out a good scream and moped for quite awhile. I hope it has the same effect on the husky!! I talked with both adults at the neighbors. I decided I should go over this weekend when she was hanging out in the road. 6 people were present. Not one made any attempt to get her from the field she ran into. Nobody even apologized for my dead chickens. I hope the fence gets her. And they get theirs.

Jj good job with the dog :)

Frenchy, I found your ad for your neighbors on cl. Did you find any homes? I hope so. Feel bad for them. Would help if you could get pics and better info :-/

Checking in on the WI thread, hello everybody!

Are you guys heading to the Portage show this weekend? Planning on being there with a few token Iowa Blues for grins. If you see me, say Hi! :)

Here are a couple of my girls that showed last weekend in Mason City...

One took best of breed for the first show, the other took best of breed for the second. We did manage to have 6 silver pullets there, so some actual competition for the breed. :) I thought they made a nice display.

The neighbor should pay for the birds their dog killed...don't you think? Nothing like having the neighbors from he!!

What time are folks going to portage? Are you going bl4? Cuties...what time you going?

Jennie has vacation and wants to go Sat with dad to the show.

Will someone post a link to the location and times of the show pretty please? I am probably bringing Bl4 with me if she can get off work at a decent hour.

Sorry about your hatch Sclark :(

I got a great trio of English Orphingtons from Delisha today!! Pictures to come later. I am very excited about them. Lovely!
