Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Vicki, tell me about it! I have been eyeballing cl. Nobody even bites my offers! No budging on prices!

Bigz, makes me proud to own these birds! I hope I can keep up the lines as well as mark has!

Bbl4 I really hope you get your house... and chickies...and ducks back...and geese...andhorses...and a goat... lol

Chickenlady13, sorry no advice to offer... saline solution... but I think that wouldn't prevent if there is an infection...

Hey all! Just checking in.

Problem at work is constant at the moment, but not escalating. And, to whomever asked, no HR department exists! Convenient, huh? I am just waiting for the perfect moment to file a complaint toward the woman that is causing the problems

. She has been making my work environment inconsistently hostile (albeit better than consistent) and the next time she strikes, I'll make it known to my boss and update him with the past history of the situation.

Chickens........they are here still and growing. They are molting (not the babies) but the adult-ish ones. Not a good time for cool weather, but they are staying warm.

Otherwise, cute baby Amy, nice birds pictures, congrats on the Jeep Mel, and to all others...welcome and good night!

Folks, I did stop in and chat with the Realtor office that has the property listed. Apparently the property has been abandoned, they do not know when the last time people were living in the house. You can purchase this property three ways. The house & structures with 5 acres for $59,900; with 34 acres for $136,000; with 79 acres for $325,000. Personally, I think they are nuts. I am not afraid of hard work, if the house is sound I have no problem dealing with cosmetic issues. I would rather restore a house if I can than rip it down, you cannot possibly duplicate the quality of the wood used 100 years ago.

The realtor was very nice, I let him know that I was just curious and I was in no hurry or even ready to sell my current house. I am hoping that will be sooner rather than later......

And then........ we WILL have CHICKENS!!!!!!!! And Ducks and Geese and Horses.........
Now you have to go take a look at it!

I forgot to tell you about what we had for dinner tonight.....

The boyfriend sends me a txt message this afternoon asking if we would like to have one of the salmon he caught yesterday. Of course I say yes, I love salmon!

I came home from work today to find a fish so BIG it cannot fit into a cooler! The pic of the fish he sent me was the fish sitting on a 3 ft cutting board, and even then it does not fit all the way!

With the help of my oldest DS, I managed to fillet the monster with the most pathetic filleting knife ever! And slime? That was one slimy fish!

Somehow, I managed to fit it into the oven....... and it was yummy! Tasted like trout!

Welcome to the new members. Amy your little boy is so precious!! Thanks for sharing photos everyone, pics are always nice.
Sorry to hear about the MS issues, at one point they thought that is what I had before they decided it was Lupus. I'm still not fully sure of their diagnosis as they stated I only had 2 brain lesions and I had to have 3 or more to be diag. with MS.

Haven't written much in the past week or so as my Lupus is flaring up and been in so much pain. All I can do is take the pain pills, wrap my arms in ice packs and hope for the best. Arms hurt so bad yesterday just caring a gallon of milk, I nearly dropped it at Walmart just going from the coolers to the check out. And my back and feet are just miserable. I'm trying like hell to hold back from going in to get a morphine shot for the pain after the withdrawals I went thru a few weeks ago. I can't wait til this flare up goes away. My husbands nearly ready to leave me as he's sick of me being sick and although I feel bad for him having to deal with me, I can't control what is going. it's not like I have a choice in the matter.

Yesterday was actually the first day in nearly a week that I was able to get outside and check on the chickens as I've been in so much pain I could barely walk. I can't carry the 2 1/2 gallon buckets to feed as my arms hurt so bad. The boys have been such a great help doing my chores for me although they don't do it as good as I feel they should they are helping. Giving them credit for phy ed for homeschooling for doing all the work for me. Daughter got a new job, this is her 2nd week so she hasn't been around much to help out, only on Fridays when she has off as she has one class at WITC in Rice lake. The rest of her classes are online.

Looks like it's going to cost a little over 1400$ at Greener Acres in Cadott to rebuild the transmission in the new Jeep, now to try and save the money up. As hubands decides he needed a new car Saturday more than getting the Jeep fixed for me and the kids. I am right now in a stump trying to get someone to trailer the Jeep there so they can at least start on it. I can pay just over half now and I'll have the rest when they are done in a week. Husbands Uncle and Cousin each have trailers, just getting the husband to get around to asking to borrow one so we can get started. I have another vehicle, 94 Ranger that I inherited from my aunt last Aug., but it's not very comfy when you pack 5 people in it. It's an ext cab but the back seats are made for toddlers, not teens.

Me and son just come in from checking the chickens. Dog was going crazy and shined my big flash light out and seen at least 10 sets of eyes. Come back in and grabbed shoes and a coat and convinced son that I couldn't go out alone in case and it was coyotes behind my barn. Hopefully we have them scared off for the night. This am we see that Eda, one of her chicks and 3 of Fayes chicks are missing. We gathered up most of the free rangers and put them in my brooder pen for the night. I'll get it figured out better tomorrow. You'd think the dang coyotes could take some of these roos but no they take my layers and babies. Sold just one of Edas babies tonight, pretty sure it was a cockerel though. They are going to get back to me about buying some of the pullets and layers. It'd be nice to sell the layers out of the 2 coops are their is sets of 3 hens and 1 roo in each and it would make room for all the young ones for the winter. I could put the June July babies in one and the ones in the house in the other for heat purposes.

Went thru some of the young coops this afternoon and I have more cockerels than pullets. Not looking good for having layers next year. One of the Lavender Orps hatched out in June is def. a cockerel and thinking I have 2 pullets. Not like I need another roo as I have 3 already in breeding pens. Going to have to start butchering soon before I'm over run with them.

The chicks in the house are growing fast. Crossing my fingers they feather out before snow flies so I can house them out in the coop for the winter instead of the house. Their dusting is making a mess of everything. I'm down to 16 as one of the late hatchers died and one of the Brinsea batch also. I do have one BLRW or possibly a splash out of the 13, a few black laced and some blacks. The BLRW x Light Brahma sure is going to be a nice looking chicken but I'm betting it's a cockerel, thinking the same with the BLRW chick.

Everyones molting all at once. Only collected 2 eggs today out of 30 hens. They all look so ragged compared to a month ago, I hate people coming to look at them right now unless they really know chickens and they will look good again soon.

My BLRW coop has 2 broodies, one BLRW and a Blue Wyondotte, you'd think they wouldn't want to set on eggs this time a year but stubborn hens. I'm going to see if son is still awake and will go help me candle them to see if their even coming along, if their not close I'll toss them out and hope they stop their broodyness for the year at least.

Wow I think I've been reading Frenchies posts to often I'm taking after her. Hope you all don't mind. Couldn't sleep so thought I'd take the time to catch up.

Verdict is, BLRW has 2 near hatching and Blue Wyondotte has 3 a little earlier. I'd say within the next week they should be hatching. Each had non fertile eggs that we threw out.

Figured I'd also share some photos. I really need to stop taking them with my phone and use my DSLR since I spent so much money on it!

This is Marmalade, she's out of my BLRW but has reverse splash colors. I had one other one turn out like this that a friend hatched. Pretty sure it's a pullet.

This is out of my Lav Orp coop, cockerel for sure.

This is the BLRW x Light Brahma, has light feather tips almost like a SS. Can't wait to see what it matures to.

This is the batch in the house, believe it or not their are 16 chicks in that monkey pile.

You should find a reliable mechanic. And have him help you find a good used tranny. Find a jeep that has other things going on. Like maybe cracked up I an accident. But untouched tranny. And get a guy to do it on the side. You will save a lot of cash.
Cind. I hope thi gs are looking up for your son with ms. I am sending you hugs. And hopefully you can fi d so.e help.

Good cold morning everyone :th
Weatherman blew it again. 26o when I got up. I of course didn't cover.

SCLARK - adding you to my prayer list. :hugs. Love your pics. What gorgeous babies!!!

BL4 - that fish sounded yummy! I lived in Michigan and miss the Coho salmon fishing.

Only chicken news this morning is I have a pullet problem, of course.
One of my red sex links that Dan warned me about but instead of prolapse she has stopped laying. Huge egg, no shell egg, small egg, huge egg, etc. Then a week ago, major shelless egg and a large intestinal shed. Skip a day then lays the tiniest, hardest fart egg and now nothing since for a week. She had been wormed with the rest a couple weeks ago and have no idea if the two are related tho none of the hens showed any problems except the aussies of course. Anyone have a guess as to whether she will ever lay again? I have checked for egg bound, etc but She is otherwise fine. Oh, these girls are from an April 1 hatch. One other note about this girl. I could always tell her eggs because hers were the only ones with pigment spots.

Good cold morning everyone

SClark, I am adding you to my prayers as well..thanks for the chicks pixs.

Kendra, I sure hope you take care of your problem employee soon.

pullets have all kinds of laying problems. I do not worry until they are a year old. Next spring you can decide if she is a free loader.
It is normal for some pullets to stop laying for a moult. I have 12 layers and get only 8 eggs this time of year. Fortunately moult last only a month to six weeks.
