Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning...welcome to the thread Fernie! Seems you have quite the menagerie also--you will fit right in here!
Mel--please tell me why you feel it necessary to "take the bowl away" from the dog? I guess I never understood that part of dog training. I know that people say it is to make them "safe" around kids if the dog is eating; but why? Children should be taught NOT to bother the dog if it's eating IMHO. I would be ****** if I was hungry and someone decided to take my food away! (maybe it's the pack leader thing?) I also feed my dogs in their kennels- doors open, the only thing I require is that they not growl at each other or me if I happen to walk past while they are eating! Actually they eat so fast that I couldnt grab the dish if I wanted to!

Well, since I am still in my jammies and havent accomplished what I came on here for as yet....I guess I better get moving! The sky was very blue when I got up...now it is gray again--*sigh*
Have a good one! TErriO

Melissa, I totally agree you should beable to have control of all objects. Possession is a very hard thing to deal with! Just a tip if your interested; feed in the kennel will cause a dog like him to become possessive over the kennel even without food present. When you first try to get the dish, use an object. Not your hand. Have some awesome treats to offer in exchange. He does not get the treat unless his focus moves from the food dish to you. Not luring with the treat.
If you are interested, I know of an awesome trainer in the fox lake area. She specializes in behavioral issues.
Sounds like your hands are full!!
Teri, yes it is a pack leader thing.

Here is the youngest chick from the BLR but it's looking to be black laced.

Here is a picture of oldest BLR.

I know it's early but any ideas on sex? I'm hoping splash is a pullet.

None of my chicken photos are turning out to well so I thought I'd share a few I just took of 2 other birds, their eating on a carcass of some kind just down the road from my house.

AWESOME PHOTOS! I wish I could get close enough to "our" eagles to get shots like that!

Huntress; all of the organizations that were contacted were making their evaluations over the phone (except the vet clinic where the tech said he should be put down but the vet did not). Based on the owner's description of his behavior, I was expecting Kujo, not a big overgrown puppy who wants to run and play. I hope I can find a nice home for him, I have no intentions of keeping him but I hated to think that such a beautiful dog would be put down due to lack of knowledge on the owner's part.

I thought you said hubby took to him so I thought you might keep him. I don't think my 13 year old will make it another year due to health issues but I don't think it would be fair to him to upset the balance/routine here by bringing in a new adult dog or I would take yours in a heartbeat. Once this one is gone though it will only be older dogs/rescues for me...no more puppies.

I have Imported English Black Orpingtons..
If you want to give me the details of what you have/will have available I'll pass on the info when she gets back.

Sclark, beautiful photos! When I saw the first one all I could think was "Run chickens RUN!".

Great pictures SClark

they both look like pullets so far..if they get wattles before 6 weeks..they are cockerels

a few new hatched Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and Gold Laced Orpingtons

Thank you for the welcomes

No not our first chickens or ducks.

The ducks are Rouens the guy we got the parents from got two different batches of ducks a year apart from tractor supply. He put the new drakes in with the older females and the older drakes in with the younger females. We got two girls from the one group and a male from the other.

The chicks were a special deal through the hatchery. 50 males, 50 straight run of heavy breeds. Hatchery choice of breed(s). We have 101 Barred Rocks. They have quieted down a bunch now that they are in the warm garage under three heat lamps.

I would love to get more ducks, but I think that until I can get more fencing for them I may need to wait on that. The three we have are in a 10' x 10' dog run with a dog house attached to the fencing for their shelter. It has been suggested by certain people who cut the grass that we now need to put in a pond. I don't think the ducks need a pond. i think the grass cutters want less grass to cut. LMAO

We had this similar to the sight we had across the road from our house. We saw a bunch of birds flying around this morning. Nothing unusual until you realized it was a bunch of crows fleeing a huge Bald Eagle.

We inspected on our way home from town and someone threw out a skinned carcass which attracted them. I'm still trying to find out what the animal was. Feet kinda look like a racoon, but I thought it was way to big to be one.

Thanks Deli, your chicks are so cute. Being I'm so new to this breeding, I had no idea that the BLRW colors didn't show right away so had sold all but one black laced as early chicks and he's a cockerel. I did keep the last ones hatched only because I had that bad hatch for the guy I was hatching for. I plan to rethink it all next year for sure and study alot more instead of diving in without educating myself. I've also decided to sell most of my chickens and just keep my BLRW roo, 1 hen and pullet and my SS roo and 4 hens. I'm still at over 100 and I got rid of 6 roos Tues, same guy will take all my cockerels once their grown out.

Here is a pic of the BLRW x Light Brahma sex? Was hatched Sept 17 along with the splash blrw.

I really like the looks of it and wish I wouldn't of sold my Brahmas as it would make a nice cross.
