Hilarious Irish! There should probably be a couple kids behind him for some households LOL I can only imagine the kid decibel readings in homes these past days...

Is that "proofing" that you're writing about Jim? I always remember doing that but the roll recipe didn't call for it???? I used to bake Bread every Sunday when i was in my 20s. A happy habit and I learned a lot. Like knitting these days, when I was working on the rolls the other night, I felt everything I learned then coming back to me... pretty cool. And I taught my 6 year old girl how to knead. Thanks for sharing what you've learned about bread making folkses!

Dig it, with the red heat lamp, there is a layer of 10 degree weather in the upper half of the tiny coop even now that the door has been open an hour!!! We have to keep the door open, because if we brought any water into that 4x4 space there would be straw and poop and horse Sweet PDZ in there in no time.

In lieu of the broken oven, I'm scouring the web for awesome bread machine recipes today... :)
Proofing is a term we used in the bakery for raising..

we had a proof oven.. it had a low heat element and humidity.. much like a cabinet incubator..

Hello everyone, it's been a while, hope everyone is keeping warm!

Our chickens seem to be doing well. They have two heat lamps running, it was a toasty six degrees in the coop when I checked on them last night.. but they don't seem to mind, and there were five eggs from six layers!

We only have one roo now, a little black silkie. It's hilarious watching him mount the bigger girls ~ like he's going for a piggy back ride. Our other four boys are in the freezer. After the duck massacre, we did catch a giant coon a few days later. He was relocated.

Van wouldn't start yesterday, so I'm probably going to be stranded at home again today. My brothers fiance is coming from South Korea in one month and we have sooo much preparation to get done before then (cleaning/switching furniture and rooms/renovating a bathroom)! Why is it so much more "fun" to clean other people's houses? :)

I use the oven too..it makes a great profer.
Good morning everyone! Haven't ventured out yet this morning to check on the hens and rabbits.

Ideas to keep kids occupied:

blanket forts
make play-doo
put 1 cup of boiling water into a couple of different solo cups, add food coloring to each (a different color), and send them outside. If its really cold out, when thrown up in the air, it should freeze instantly.
get pieces from existing games and have older kids create a new game with all of the pieces and teach it to the younger kiddos.
snapchat scavenger hunt for older kids
bring some snow inside the house in a large tub, get out the plastic dinosaurs, shovels, etc and let the kids play in the snow.
Bubbles!! Try blowing bubbles in this cold weather..
Are you going to listen to Steve play Saturday? Joe said we can go as long as the weather cooperates. Did you get a new vehicle?

We still have our Christmas Tree up. I'm in no hurry to take it down either. I enjoy it's lights in the evening, and it really doesn't matter how many needles I need to clean up. after all they are just needles.

Good thing I checked the mail today. The mail lady woulda been wondering if anyone lives there pretty soon....I'm gonna need a bigger mail box if I wanna check it a couple times a week. LOL! Mostly junk...some good stuff of course. Are bills, good stuff?

The flocks are doing great, but if they could vote, it would prolly be with temps closer to 32f...that would be just right.

Bring on the heat wave...bigz

just an FYI,,,,10% of my ducks froze to the ground today, I have 10, easy math

after playing in the water apparently it decided to take a break on the ice covered area near the rubber pan,,,bad idea

I think she might have been stuck there for a couple hours,,,Jake went outside and was barking in that direction (something he doesn't do unless there is a critter or something wrong) DD thought she saw a duck and told me,,,I checked and yup,,,almost a ducksicle. I gently worked her feathers loose, she grabbed some corn,,,and waddled back to the shelter quacking all the way

hooray Jake!

I think my keyboard is full of drool looking at the baking pics, where's bigfam? she is missing some excellent comment material involving all these nice buns
