Broken neck?

That's almost what it seems like but how would that happen? And he is able to lift his head occasionally. What other signs would there be if that were the case?

I've never seen one, so I really couldn't offer advise. But I'd think it's either that or wry neck. With my birds they sometimes get spooked and fly into things, maybe this happened to yours?

Ang, my geese supposedly died from lead poisoning and showed those same symptoms. Weak neck, not eating (unable to eat) eventually the wings became weak and could not be held against the body. After looking into it, I feel they developed Botulism poisoning since it has those same symptoms. Unfortunately I cannot give you info on what their poo was like since I did not take notice (I was only 14). If anything, give him a force feeding of charcoal water mixed with some calcium.

And cross your fingers.

Of course, I know little to nothing about chickens. I would let the pros help you out.

I just checked the cam and he appears to have his head tucked behind his wing-which he couldn't/wasn't doing earlier-thats a positive sign!! Both of my boys are so unbelievably sweet, its unreal! I sure hope he pulls out of this.

I just went and looked again and he was NOT putting hihead behind his wing, his head is just hanging down off the roost. I went out and put his head to rest of the perch but he keeps slowly movving it off. I dont get this. He looks alert, just really slow long deep breathes.

Hi all...no, I am NOT in Florida like I was supposed to be at this time! DH decided that with the ice and cold that work was going to be way too busy to go. I guess a few other people stayed home too. He was in Milwaukee all day at the old Gimbel's building pulling carpet. There were 2" of water in there...I am bummed. Besides it being my birthday, I spent it alone! At least I had steak!

It was delicious...but at $12.99/lb it should be right?

And here are the presents from the chickens! (and quail) I had some new layers today too. The dark one in the upper right is the very first egg from the Langshanns! I hatched eggs from LMiller last spring. The two other pullet eggs are also new...from the "experimental" batch. Finally I am getting some eggs!

Vicky---I kept my hens "pure" for a month before collecting eggs to incubate and I still seemed to have some oddballs hatch from those eggs! Maybe I have some talented roos that go through fences?

Judy, I have occasionally had birds act that way. They have then died. Sorry I don't have more to add. We had them all tested. And everything was normal. Hope your guy pulls through. I think it is kinda lime del says. Survival of the fittest.
We (hubby) picked up 3 bags of feed today at fleet. They are full of MOLD! I wonder how often this happens. The first one wasn't very noticable. But the next one was really bad. And when we looked back to the first, it was clearly there. We had sick birds one other time. And talked with a nice lady who is very experienced with chickens. She told us to throw out all of our feed. Because
it sounded like they had mold poisoning. This is getting old.

Do any of you use fleet feed? We are thinking of switching to feed mills. Can you guys share your experiences with me?

Hi All!

Angieb.... I have had birds get pushed off the roost and they often try to catch themselves with their "chin". I have found a couple birds I thought were healthy, dead under the roost, with probably broken necks. Either that or some sort of slow poisoning?

TO... Bummer about the trip.
