Thanks Unk, I will have to try it! No, the Robins are not acting drunk that I know of, if they are they would be easy pickings for our local Cooper's hawks.

Terri, I really hope tommi continues to improve.
Fernie, Jim's pups are pure maremma. The parents are really cool dogs. I would recommend his dogs to anyone. I think they are raised well. And they should behave half way decent with the chickies. Perfect time of year. A broody hen or two to take a bite out of them, and lesson learned! Thats what happened to our gsp pup. And he is pretty respectful of the birds.

I took advantage of the "warm" weather and raked a bunch of straw/hay/poop out of the chickaroo's coop today and gave them some new stuff for their nest and walking area. Those dang poostalagmites under the roost are not budging but the rest of the coop looks pretty good considering. Eric and the girls were enjoying the sun today. I think they were scoping out a spot for the cabana.

Once in awhile I see some blood on the feeder where their combs would rub while eating but I don't see much comb damage from frostbite and there don't seem to be any pickers bothering anyone. I'm not going to sweat it unless I see some aggression. This flock seems to be pretty mellow.

Looking forward to those above average temps after this week!!

My husband has a job lined up in England for all of next winter (about 5 months). I want to go with, but not sure how that would work with the kids schooling. Maybe I'd have to home school for one year?

GO FOR IT!!! You can likely get the curriculum and books from the kid's teachers before you leave or you can check into enrolling them in a school in England. Plus, think of all they could lear just by being there and visiting historic places!!

I agree , take the kids and head to England.. home school them there as best as you can.. over there, you can tell the people that they are on leave from the school here, and here what they don't know won't hurt them,,

make a deal with the kids that when they come back here, they will have to pick up where they left off, and they will be a year behind the kids they were in class with..

my puppies are pure breed Maremma .. the father and mother are not related.. I sent to Nebraska for the male 2 years ago.. had him flown into Madison and drove down there to pick him up..

the mother was born just a few miles from me,,

If you have a Maremma, you prolly got it from Peggy and Dan,, there are not many breeders in the state,, I know of only 3 ... One in Arpin, one somewhere in northern wisc and Peggy..
the next closest person is in northern Minn..

these dogs are self thinkers,, don't expect them to play chase the ball or catch a frizbie ..
they will most likely tell you to go pick it up yourself..

maybe they can be taught to play, but I never tried playing with mine..

The Dr told me that I am a heartbeat away from death if I get any sort of irregular heart beat.
my heart attack 7 years ago damaged my heart and I am at 32% on the heart scale.. it is not a clear 100% scale, so I am at about 50% good.. more or less..
I am having a defibrilator (sp) put in on the 24th of Feb,,
not looking for sympathy, just letting you all know what is going on.. somebody asked, or I wouldn't have mentioned it ..
