Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

thought I better check in before Jim puts me on the mia list

Dixondale Farms is the source for onion plants in the market garden industry, great folks to work with and an excellent website for info on growing onions. I never had much luck until I started using their methods. The prices are fair if you consider they include shipping and excellent service including after the sale, also have a # of vids on the interweb that are very interesting.

Dan !! welcome back !!

Jim I just read an article on fruit growing in China,,,there they cull and bag the select apples/pears in a waxed paper bag,,,nothing about plastic though

this all worked as a reminder to finish getting my seed/plant orders completed

I put that dixondalefarm addy into my favorites file ..

If you can find wax paper bags, use them,, my instructor said to use those flimsy sandwich bags.
was I correct in saying they kept the moths off ?? It was a lot of years, and my memory isn't so good..
Do you remove the bags after awhile ?
my instructor said to do about 100 apples. I suppose it depends on how many you need for your family ..

SClark..we know she has the drug issues but she also could just be colicky... My DD was like that and I tried everything changed formulas etc etc etc...it wasn't until my DS was born that I realized it was her and not me. Good thing you have the patience to endure, many such children are not so lucky. There sure will be a special place in heaven for you and I am sure this little one will be the source of great joy in the not too distant future.
Coddling moths are something I would like to do without... I have sprayed but not had much luck in destroying these buggers. I used the traps to detect when they first appeared still missed spraying. Last year was the first year I got a bumper crop from my two apple trees...Loved the apple chips I made. Bought an apple press at an auction couple of weeks ago so this year I can try my hand at cider. Think it must be time to wade through the snow and prune in the next week or two before it warms up. Hints on getting rid of the moths and their worms would be appreciated.
BBP I would keep the penicillin going for 2 weeks at least... You have to make sure that all the "bugs" are dead and that they can not re-develop usually they say 10 - 14 days. If you do not treat long enough you risk making the bugs resistant to the penicillin.
Night all

Delish-that makes sense. With Diesel the thick clear liquid was about an hour or two before he died and was all down his neck-is i common for it to be that long before the die? :-( Makes me sad thinking about him all over again.

I haven't been giving any ACV due to the fact I am using metal waterers on heated bases I may try to put some out tomorrow when the temps are above freezing for awhile and see if it helps too!

Thanks again for the info.

I have heard of putting nylon stockings on fruit to prevent them from getting 'buggy'. Since they grow with the fruit, they would be a good chioce and perhaps re-useable albeit a tad expensive (unless you could get boxes of those try on footies from a shoe store). I have also heard of the paper bag method as well.

BTW, any animal that has a full colon will expel the contents of the colon after death has occurred (bladder too). After death, the muscles that are responsible for keeping the contents contained will relax after a certain amount of time has passed and voila`: you get a present.

Yum.

Hi All!

I read all the posts but still have bad head and chest cold so all in my head the last few pages are like somethingsomethingonionsomethingbabysomethingsheadsomethingsomethingapplesomethingwormsomethingsleep..... so night all!

good morning,,
a little snowy out there today,,
just got a call from a lady,, she is coming here in a half an hour to pick out a puppy.
she is coming from Hamburg/Athens area.. right in my back yard..
we have 8 puppies and there were four wrestling matches going on a few minutes ago.
too cute ..
there is one yapper in the bunch.. I hope she takes that one..

Nephew is coming this afternoon to help me trim down two doors.. I cannot locate my hand held electric planer, so he is bringing his.. I told him as long as he was bringing it, he might as well use it..

I would think the sandwich baggies would let more light in at the apple.. but maybe that is not important..

for some reason, I have never had worms in my apples.. I have never sprayed the tree either.. maybe it is because there is never any fruit laying on the ground.. the chickens see to it that any apple that hits the ground gets eaten immediately .. they have tuned in to the sound of an apple hitting the ground .. It is fun to watch them run to be the first one there,, and it is fun to watch Annie join in the race sometimes, when she wants to bake a pie..
how many times have I heard, "dam chickens poked a hole in this one before I got there"..

cuppa is almost gone,, better go put on some shoes and water the birds.. down to 3 eggs a day and holding..
If I don't get rid of those freeloaders soon, I might just give them away .. just to keep from having to feed them..

Lots of excitement on the thread, hard to keep up these days.

Stay safe everyone!

Momgille, my vet told me for chickens that 4 days is usually good, but no more than 7. I may do a full week of injections. This poor little bird.

There is a new water soluable sulfa being used in some farms. It is FDA approved for horses, but has been used very successfully in pigs, turkeys and chickens. (they put it in the water) ask your vet about Equisul-SDT by Aurora Pharmaceuticals :)
