have you heard from the marans breeder? I left a message with out a response back? Perhaps 1876 could get n on that.
Thanks hens n roos I will mark this chick. Maybe since he is so dark it wil have really good lacing!
I will call her later today and remind her we are coming next Saturday the 8th. She is pretty busy.
Yes Mareks Vaccine. I killed a chick already doing it..I have not gotten really good at it yet.
I have a picture of the Silkie..I think it is a nice dark blue and a girl..I think you said you need a boy..I hope the other two will be at least a boy.
As far as silkies go..I think the color and bar codes do not work the same as with other poultry..I am not positive. If it is the same I should have sex link chicks.

Your Silkie

My first Silver Laced..

Will the silkies be day old on the 8th? If you want to bring the vaccine qlong. I have lots of practice on giving shots. I worked at the humane society for quite a few years, and give all vaccinations here. (Minus he rabies). Need to be licenced for that :D

No they are due Monday..they will be 4 days old. (I do not know if they are both viable I don't check my eggs any more)
I am bringing 12 hour hand warmers for the chicks so they should be good.
I am Ok with giving shots. They are just so tiny and you have to give it in the neck ..I think I might have hit a vein. it died like in 10 minutes.

Feel so bad. It is good to vaccinate them tho. Same as our kids and other pets need some stuff. Do you do it as soon as hey dry, or after they eat and drink a little? I have thought about purchasong some. I looked at the sight that was provided. And since we plan to bring the chicks to shows it would probably be good to provide them with it....

I do it as I take them out of the hatcher and put them in the Brinsea. That way I do not miss any. They are all dry before I open my hatcher..some chicks take a few days to eat and drink well and they need the vaccine with in 24 hours of hatch.

Love seeing these babies...makes me hopefully for later this week.

Early release today so kids and I are going to hang. ds7.5 got in trouble last week at school so no friends for him and dd7.5 had asked a friend but we never heard back and found that said friend stayed overnight out of town so not even around. we will work on science fair projects and ??? ineed to start working on my seed planting and organizing the many items of rummage. My basement is packed. Considering I do this with at least two other friends and my mom... it is going to be a big one!
